Hiiii! This ask is a theory instead of a headcanon, hope y’all are fine with that lol. It's 100% okay if y'all aren’t, though. I completely understand. I’m not sure if there are any warnings to be put… but I guess this has spoilers for Death In The Family’s older parts.
I mostly collect my information from the Miraheze Wiki, Phighting’s official wiki site, and Death In The Family pages. I put in effort to be accurate and acute with my theories and headcanons, but mistakes do happen! Please don’t be shy to correct me about the lore, as some of the lore from the birthday QnA’s may be outdated.
Now for the fun part… my claim
SUBSPACE T.MINE FROM KORBLOX’S ROBOTICS INDUSTRY MAY BE RIGHT ABOUT THE SFOTH DEITIES.
This is taken from Subspace’s Birthday QnA from 2024 and has been transcripted. In response to a question regarding the SFOTH deities, he states “I think most of them should have despawned ages ago. They cause nothing but grief in the Inpherno when they get involved with any situation, despite what they may say.” Despite misinformation and even possible propaganda from Korblox’s mysterious doings, this statement holds some truth. The Sword Deities are known to have caused some problems in the Inpherno, with the recent events of The Scorch being one of their many disruptions.
One of the inphernals that this disaster has affected is Katana, one of the Phighters who was unnaturally spawned in Lost Temple. He was spawned by two caretakers and had also been raised alongside his brother, whose identity is unknown. After the unfortunate events of The Scorch, causing both of his caretakers to pass, he and his brother had joined The Church of the TRUE EYE.
The two had gone on to prove extreme loyalty to the family, working directly under the high priest of the Church, Father Overseer. However, after an incident where Katana was disgraced by the Father and the rest of the Church, he had fled to Thieves’ Den, leaving his sibling and past behind. Ever since then, he has made it his mission to cleanse the Inpherno of any and all corruption.
I mention this Phighter because of some speculations that I have of him and his past.
In this question he does not respond, hesitating on the topic. With the currently given information, this could be related to burn scars. His “drinking buddy,” Hyperlaser is known to have burn scars from a mysterious incident, and while Katana’s scarring is unspecified as of now, evidence suggests that it’s a burn scar, with the factors of him being alive during The Scorch and him not believing in the SFOTH, calling them “fake gods” when asked about it in his birthday QnA.
Another way that they could’ve bonded was if they were BOTH victims of The Scorch. Now, this may seem far-fetched, but hold onto your horns and just listen.
In this question about his horns and what they looked like before the incident, Hyperlaser responds saying “I don’t remember. There’s a lot of things I don’t remember.” This might just be Hyperlaser having bad memory, or even the trauma and pain of the incident being so great that to protect him, his mind had to make him forget. This might not be the case, and it might have something to do with Korblox, especially with Hyperlaser’s weirdly affected memories, which might’ve been tampered with, and deeds like this aren't unusual for Korblox. Not at all…
Anyways… there is also more proof of a potential involvement that Korblox had with The Scorch in Zuka’s lore in the Miraheze Wiki.
In this article it states that he has worked with the deities and that he is stated to be favored by Firebrand and Darkheart. Looking into it, Zuka being favored by Darkheart would make a lot of sense, considering that the two worked together for “political jargon,” as stated by Darkheart in the Deity Birthday QnA. However, Zuka being favored by Firebrand makes little to no sense, with there being no known reasoning to that.
There is a slight possibility that Zuka had something to do with The Scorch, especially with him being a war hero. The reasons as to why he’s known as a war hero is unknown but there’s a chance that it could have relations to The Scorch and might be why Firebrand favors him. Perhaps Zuka did something big during The Scorch to get Firebrand’s attention.
The real kicker for Subspace T.Mine’s words about the SFOTH deities being true is this lack of responsibility and accountability for Firebrand’s actions.
In this panel from Death In The Family, Darkheart talks about what had driven Firebrand to do such a thing, with some arguing that Firebrand had gone mad, causing him to do it, while others say that he had “grown sick of playing the part of peacemaker,” and that he had done it “for his sick entertainment.” Whether or not either one of these assumptions behind Firebrand’s actions are true have not been addressed, and will most likely remain as such for a while.
Even if Firebrand’s reason for the destruction of this urban center in Lost Temple was madness, it does not excuse him from his devastating actions. If this was a court case, this… madness of his would not exempt him from the consequences. The only way to be completely excused from prosecution in this case is if Firebrand must successfully plead the Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI), which has very specific and difficult to prove criteria. One of the things that you’d have to prove is the M’Naghten Rule, which is if the defendant did not know the nature of the act that they were committing or did not know that it was wrong. Now, I am not Firebrand, but it seems extremely unlikely that he was unaware of the harm that he was causing, especially with him being known as the “most beloved among the Swords,” and “not appearing to want to harm or distress inphernals,” as stated in the lore section of Firebrand in the Miraheze Wiki. Firebrand seemed competent enough to determine the impacts of his decision.
Ever since the incident Firebrand has left the public scene and has stepped down from the throne. Whether this was done out of guilt will probably remain unanswered for a long time.
