Hello friends, dear beloved friends whom I haven’t spoken to in ages! I hope you still remember me fondly!

I haven’t had a chance to do much art in the last couple of years since my son was born. Motherhood has long hours and a demanding schedule. But guess what! I’ve just managed to reclaim enough of my time and autonomy to MAKE A THING!

Here is the Yeen Zine, a 36-page zine full of fascinating information about the spotted hyena, with lovingly rendered drawings littered about all over. It was researched, written and illustrated all by yours truly and refined for print by my wonderful partner, Stevan Zivadinovic.

It’s debuting this Saturday Oct 7 2017, at the San Antonio Zine Fest, 12-6 PM at the Galería Guadalupe (723 S Brazos, San Antonio TX). Afterward, I will make it and some other stuff available in my Storenvy store, stabwool.storenvy.com.

Haven't posted much lately and I never did post this, so:

Here's a drawing I made for Ian Jay's CHESSMASTER GUIDE 2: CRYPTOZOOLOGY FOR DUMBASSES zine sometime last year. It's elwetritsches! An elwetristch happens when fowl and fairy folk love each other VERY MUCH and they do mommy and daddy things together.

Did I mention the zine is pay-what-you-want? It is! What a miracle of modern economy!

This is a hodag that I made for one of the reward tiers for Sleep of Reason, which is coming out in print sometime soon maybe!!! The PDFs have already been delivered to backers who have presumably read them and understandably wet their pants in fear.

My favorite thing about the hodag is that it is the fakest of all the monsters. An 1899 photograph of the hodag shows a lovely paper maché sculpture attacking a child. Look at its ridiculous hook claws, what are they even made of? Coathangers?

Replicating its iconic pose, with two feet on the same side of its body in the air, was really hard. He needs to put a little bit of weight on the back of his front claws in order to stay upright, but the overall effect is pretty correct.

Sinkhole Devil from my and Stevan's story in the Sleep of Reason anthology. The fur is made of tussah silk, details sculpted out of polymer clay. Stevan did the rocks at the bottom and they are so good! The little grasses are made of hair from our dog!

While trimming this beast’s fur, I have probably inhaled, swallowed, and otherwise unwittingly absorbed a ridiculous amount of silk in the past couple of days. I can only hope that my inevitable death from silk poisoning will be considered heroic and land me a footnote in the annals of art history.

This monster is still available as one of the reward tiers in the kickstarter! But if you’d prefer to just get a paperback collection of original scary comics by a bunch of incredible artists for only $30, you can do that too!!

EDIT: OH GOSH it is in fact no longer available! Hooray! HOWEVER, I do have four other, smaller sculptures still available, and you can bet your pathetic mortal souls that they will be just as high quality.

It's gonna be a small zine regardless, but please help by spreading the word! Here's the submission guidelines one more time:

I want to see the queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race being best friends; doing each other’s nails, eating ice cream while watching soaps, going on vacation together, being each other’s wingwoman, all the sort of things that best friends do!

Submit illustrations, comics, limericks, whatever your little heart inspires you to do. Try to keep it PG-13 – kiki yes, kaikai no. Don’t feel obligated to try too hard on that front though.

Tech specs:

Black & white (greyscale, halftones, etc are ok)

8.5”x7” (half legal), with 0.125” bleed, at 300 dpi

Between 1-3 pages

Deadline: June 15th, to have it ready in time for SPX
