I know us wlw are getting fucked over by pb, but I just want to give a shoutout for all the mlm players. They constantly get shafted by pb when there's only female genderlocked mcs in new books, having to pay diamonds to help side mlm couples get together (mr.chambers/konevi, garrus/krom, cingerix/euthymios, etc.) while you can help het couples for free, and just being horribly underrepresented in general.

So I saw the Queen B diamond hairstyles and I was thinking that it’s such bs how they’re all pretty much geared toward white MCs despite them only being 1/4 of possible MCs while black MCs get repeatedly stuck with the same bun because PB can’t even be bothered to draw black hairstyles in the black writer’s book.

Anyway, I made a couple of quick edits to see MC in something different and just look at what could’ve been if PB gave one (1) damn about representing the diversity they preach

For the record, Chelsa being black doesn’t mean she’s beyond criticism.

BUT

This is not the first time we had a relationship in a story that involved a power imbalance. Hell, in TNA we’re romancing our engaged boss. In Bloodbound we were romancing our boss. In RCD we romanced our boss. In OPH we romanced our boss.

I can see why this storyline would make people uncomfortable. And it’s perfectly valid to point out its flaws. But if you were a-okay with the above romances, and feel the need to attack Chelsa over this one, you need to dig deep down and investigate why that is.

   There’s no way that anyone can sit comfortably and enjoy these stories without  it always dwindling down to race. The book covers that you see almost, if always, has a white love interest or main character that’s present on the cover. The stories that you all have read through Sunday to Saturday have a white love interest that always gets the more of a narrative, more diamond scenes, more time spent with your main character than others. When the roles are switched and a main character who is not white is getting the main love interest treatment then horrible, out of character and just downright abusive shit is spewed about them.

    The white love interests has always been in the forefront while non-white characters have sat in the back and waited for their time to change. 3 out of 4 of The Elementalists love interests where sidelined for a month before they came back again. Rafael hasn’t had a diamond scene in almost a year and no one has gotten a solid explanation to why he came back in Book 2 in a relationship with someone he has never mentioned. Not to mention Bryce and Jackie who’s stories are being scattered around and barely mentioned without any consistency at this point. The Royal Romance love interests were sidelined for Drake’s entire plot that took up half of the book ( that no one asked for) and then some. So much more in better intricate detail has happened with non white love interests that has gotten ignored because “it’s not about race, let’s just enjoy the book.” 

It’s always been about race, always.

These covers... I swear to god choices is starting to look more and more like my wine-aunt’s bookshelf of only the cheapest of romance novels. Only difference is, she gets them for 99c and to thoroughly enjoy witness you’d have to sell your house, your soul and your firstborn.
