Life lately.
This is me in NYC not long ago for one of comedian Josh Johnson’s shows at the Beacon. It was amazing. New York City is amazing. I love visiting. Will be back.
Anyway, outside is on fire, so I have been finding my joy wherever I can. This includes art, quick trips to other cities, and resting. I haven’t been as motivated to post anything outside of art on my Instagram as I used to be, thanks to stress. But here I am. Maybe I will start sharing art here.
My locs are 4 years old now. I have a standard hair-care routine now, which is low maintenance. I miss my loose natural hair, but not the maintenance of it. And in this economy, I could stand to not buy as many products as I used to. Here’s what I’m using now:
I couldn’t use much from the Cecred hair care line with my locs, but when Beyonce introduced products for protective styles, I was all in. Many are rightfully skeptical of products created by celebrities, but honestly this stuff actually works! My wash days are every 2-3 weeks now, and I use the Detoxifying Shampoo (center), follow up with the moisturizing shampoo from the original line (not pictured), and once a week I “grease my scalp” with the balm (over to the right), and especially during reties (which I line up with a wash day). I still work out often, so the Scalp Refreshing Spray (left) comes in handy maybe once or twice weekly, and after a retie to reduce tension.
Would I recommend? Yes. It also smells lovely - a nice, perfume scent that soothes.
Speaking of reties, I do my own. When I first got my microlocs installed, I let the salon do them routinely, but then after month 3 or 4, I took the skills I learned from YouTube and got to work. I’m not as fast as the salon (I usually have to break it into two sessions — front one night and the back another), but I get it done. Doesn’t always save time, but it saves a lot of money.
Okay, back to art. I’ll update you later.
Went to brunch. Brought POCKETS!

I went to Florida recently.
What started as a girls’ trip since a soror was celebrating her birthday turned into an early Christmas gift for myself. We were originally set to go in October, but when Hurricane Milton landed we had to reschedule.
Going to see Usher was completely optional and I was initially going to skip out since I already had tickets for the Atlanta show, see some Miami and then meet everyone afterward. But when the show got rescheduled to a December date (hence the trip being rescheduled), I decided to take a peek at resale prices because:
- The December date was likely conflicting with people’s holiday travel and they needed to sell.
- Resellers who originally didn’t sell were gonna be desperate this close to the show and bring the price down.
Lo and behold, I find a ticket for $200 or so. In VIP. Other celebrities were there (Trick Daddy, Rubi Rose, Lloyd — who performed — and some reality TV folks) but I was only there for one person.
Having been to the Atlanta show, I already knew it was amazing, and Miami didn’t disappoint. But the best part was being steps away from someone I have been a huge fan of since junior high school. I remember being 13-14 with all the posters and VHS videos of his performances, and almost thinking I could move to Atlanta. And now here I was touching the hem of his garment.
At the first show, I wanted Usher Bucks. I had a floor seat so I got a few and made sure my BFF got one. This time I was at the bar and got plenty more. I am over the moon.
I had this dress years ago. Gave it away to my niece some time later, only for her to never wear it and prefer sweatshirts and jeans all the time (teenagers, yeah?). I “borrowed” it back. Keeping the POCKETS!

July 2023 vs. July 2024. Not the same day, though. I knew I had an earlier pic of me in this dress. 😂
Doing a comparison because this New Year’s Eve will make 3 years with microlocs. Like they say, trust the process. And always, trust the POCKETS!
