It had been a while since you had been out exploring. The forest surrounding the house had always been an escape for you, calming you when you needed it.
You had always had a special love for nature ever since you were little, but since moving to Forks you’d say it had grow. Your parents had sent you to live with your uncle Charlie since they were never home, always having to travel for work.
They thought it would be good for both of you to have someone there to keep each other company. Luckily you had agreed and then started your life in Forks, Washington.
For years it was only the two of you, so any free time you had to yourself was spent exploring the surrounding forests. Though you never ventured far at first for fear you’d get lost. You soon got over that the more time you spent surrounded by nature, always knowing your way back.
Then Bella moved back and you spent your time hanging out with her knowing she had been in a situation similar to yours. You helped her get used to being back in town, showed her around school and even introduced her to your school friends.
You could tell that having Bella back made Charlie happy, even though he didn’t voice it. So you did everything you could to make her comfortable.
Then Billy had come over for their weekly football game. You were so excited to finally introduce Bella to your best friend, Jacob Black. When you had first moved here, anytime Billy would come over he’d bring his son with him.
As soon as y’all met, you had instantly clicked and the rest was history. You figured that maybe his bright sunny personality would help her become more comfortable being here.
When they arrived you instantly jumped into his arms giving him a big hug since you’ve been too busy with Bella to visit him lately. He gladly accepted the hug, lifting you up and spinning you around before setting you down, beaming at you.
Before you had the chance to introduce them you had learned that they had met when they were little and used to play together. Your mood dropped slightly when you realized that they might’ve had more history together.
You quickly got over it knowing that she probably needed this so you would be happy to share your friend for a bit. After all, that’s all you guys were, best friends.
Later that night before you went to sleep, Bella stopped you before you could head into your room.
“Ya know, I think Jacob likes you.” She said with a small chuckle.
You only blushed, then brushed off her little comment and said you guys were nothing more than friends, but little did you know that comment would stick with you for a while.
Weeks later Bella started hanging around the Cullens. They always creeped you out so you never could understand why she liked them so much. All her time was spent with her new boyfriend Edward, which left you by yourself again. You spent this new found free time either with Jacob or out in the forest.
Months had went by and suddenly Edward had left Bella, as the whole family moved away. She had been lost in the forest for hours now. Charlie was beyond worried and you had offered to go find her knowing these woods like the back of your hand. They had turned you down because Charlie didn’t want you to get lost as well.
One of the guys from the reservation, Sam Uley, had then offered to find her and luckily he did. Jacob was with you the whole time knowing you were just as worried even though you didn’t say anything.
After that Bella had been in a depressed state, not moving or going outside. You had tried everything to help her get back on her feet but nothing you seemed to do worked. Till you and Charlie started brainstorming ideas on how to help her.
You suddenly got the idea to get her to hang out with you and Jacob again, hoping this would pull her out of her depression. It seemed like it had worked. Bella had bought some bikes with her college money and asked Jake if he’d be able to help her fix them.
He agreed for your sake, because he knew you were worried for her and if this would help her, then so be it. So you all spent all your time in his garage working on the bikes. You would help him here and then, having learned a few things from him after years of seeing him work.
He taught Bella a little bit as well, letting her have a hand in working, and you couldn’t help but feel that little pang of jealousy anytime they stood too close together. And Bella’s comment came rushing back to you before you shook it off, not wanting to think too much about it.
Then one day Jacob got sick and you didn’t get to see him that often. It was such a big blow to you that you didn’t get to see him but what made it even worse was the fact that he started completely ignoring you.
After that you spent as much time as you could in the forest, trying to cheer yourself up and reminded yourself that there was much more to the world than Jacob. And that was exactly how you found yourself in this situation.
It was another one of your low moments, constantly thinking about how Jacob just left you without a word, so you decided an outing sounded perfect. It would be the first time in a while because Bella had gone back to her depressed state and you had opted to stay together to try to keep one another company since the loss of contact with Jake.
You told Bella you’d be out for a while and left a note for Charlie in case you were out too long. Quickly, you put on a light jacket before you made your way out the door. As soon as you had stepped into the forest, it was like a breath of fresh air.
The sun was shining through the tree tops lighting up the whole forest. The beautiful green color of the leaves and grass shining in the light had become one of your favorite sights. You walked for a long time thinking of nothing and everything at the same time.
As you got to a deeper part of the woods you contemplated walking back home, that is, until you heard a couple voices.
‘That’s weird, usually no one is out here this deep.’ You thought to yourself.
You walked closer to the voices as quietly as you could, not wanting to startle them. Hiding behind a bush, you slightly peered over to see who it was. You quickly noticed a couple of those figures seemed familiar.
One of them you remembered to be Embry, Jacob’s friend, and the other looked like Paul, a guy Jacob’s age that you remembered seeing around the reservation. You couldn’t really see the other guys who’s backs were turned to you. You remembered Jake sharing his fear of Sam Uley and his gang so you figured one of them had to be Sam considering last time you saw Embry he was with them.
You stayed as quiet as possible, listened in on their conversation, and hoped they’d know something about Jacob. It looked like Paul and Embry were rough housing a bit but you distinctly heard their voices.
“Hey, I could pin you down easily in a second!” Embry said.
Paul let out a laugh before he replied, “Oh I highly doubt it. I’m obviously way bigger than you!”
“You wanna bet?” Embry’s eyebrow raised in question.
“Bet.” Paul finished confidently.
Next thing you knew they were both shanking violently. You quickly moved behind a tree near by without being seen or heard, to try get a better look at what was happening. Then the unthinkable happened.
Two gigantic wolves were in place of where Embry and Paul once were. You gasped, trying to move away but stumbled landing right on your back. Quickly you leaned up on your arms only to see the two wolves and three guys were staring right at you.
Your eyes quickly widened realizing you really did see what you thought. Then a voice broke through to you.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?”
That voice you could recognize anywhere. Jacob was standing there staring at you, confusion and worry clearly on his face. But you were too busy gawking at the two big wolves in front of you to look at him.
“Wolves??? But they were just.... wasn’t that... I... wolves???”
Your head was absolutely spinning, not really sure what was going on. You felt sick.
“Y/N, I promise we’ll explain everything just please come with us.” You heard Jacob’s voice again.
“But... they’rebigwolves....... they were just humans a second ago.... w h a...... I don’t think I feel so good.”
Your head started spinning faster trying to process what you saw, then everything went black.
Soon you woke up, your head felt like it was pounding. You kept your eyes closed and hoped it would help the aching but you heard a couple voices somewhere near you. They sounded like they were arguing but trying not to talk too loud.
“This could put us in serious danger. She could tell Bella and we can’t have her knowing too.” The stern tone of the voice sounded.
“It’s not like I thought she would come this far into the woods! I had no idea she would even be there!”
“You need to make sure she doesn’t say anything, you know how bad it could be for all of us,” He sighed continuing, “Look I know you really care for her but you need to think about the rest of us too.”
Before they could talk any further, your head got a sharp pain which caused you to let out groan. They quickly stopped their conversation, as a pair of footsteps made their way towards you.
“Y/N, are you alright?” Jacob softly asked.
“I think I’m okay?” You said as you raised your hand up to rub your head, brows furrowed, “I’m not going crazy am I?”
He let out a small chuckle, “No, you’re not. But I am sorry you had to find out like that.”
Slowly, you opened your eyes to try to get used to the light, having been out for a couple hours. You tried to sit up, Jacob went to your side to help you. As soon as you were sitting, he moved to sit next to you on the couch.
You turned to look at him and you could tell he was avoiding your eyes. Looking him over, you noticed how much he’d changed in a short amount of time but despite the outward differences you could tell, deep down, he was the same Jacob you knew and loved.
You thought of how to ask what had been bothering you, then finally came up with the decision to just let it out.
“So, do you also, ya know.... turn into a big wolf?”
He sighed before he replied, “Yeah, all of 5 of us are, what we call, shifters. And I know what I’m about to say next might be a bit weird, but you remember the legends I had told you sometimes?”
You nodded urging him to continue.
“Well the reason we start shifting is when we are in close proximity to “the cold ones” or as you might know them, vampires.”
You paused for a moment thinking over what he had said.
“Wait so you’re trying to tell me there are also vampires here along with werewolves???”
“Shifters.” He corrected.
“Right, shifters. But why are you suddenly telling me all this now? You could’ve just told me from the beginning, you know you can trust me.”
His shoulders dropped at the sad tone that laced the last of your words.
“Y/N, it’s super important that we keep this secret from getting out because it could put all of us in danger. I was ordered by Sam not to tell anyone and when an alpha orders something, we obey it whether we like it or not. Trust me I wanted to go and tell you or even just see you but I couldn’t. You don’t know how hard it was to stay away from you that long.”
“I kinda understand now and I promise I won’t tell anyone but Jake you know you can look at me. If you think it’s cause I’m upset or weirded out still, that’s not true. I’m just glad I finally got to see you and know that you’re alright. I forgave you the moment I saw you.” You reassured him.
“It’s not that it....” he trailed off to try to find a way to say what he thought.
“It’s because he’s scared of the imprint.” Someone said behind you.
Suddenly you became all too aware of your surroundings. You turned to see the guys were sitting at a table and a woman was in the kitchen baking. Your cheeks heated up at the realization that they probably heard your whole conversation.
“Jared...” Sam said with a warning tone at the guy who just spoke.
“What? The wolf’s out of the bag already!” He replied in defense as he shrugged
You noticed Paul smacked the back of Jared’s head and he grumbled at the sudden action. You quickly turned to Jacob to ask him about it.
“What’s an imprint?” You asked, curiosity taking over.
“I think maybe we should go out and talk in private.”
You quickly agreed deciding it’s better to hear it from him than anyone else. You followed him outside and you both went for a short walk before you ended up at the beach and sat down on a log.
“Come on Jake, you know you can tell me anything.” You said with sincerity in your voice, “What’s an imprint?”
“Well it’s a lot to explain so please bare with me. For us imprinting is kinda like meeting your soulmate. Basically whenever we make eye contact with the person we’re meant to imprint on it just happens. It’s like nobody and nothing else in the world matters. We become anything they need or want us to be in that moment, like a friend, a protector, or even a lover. It’s very intense and honestly kind of scary because any sense of ourselves becomes all about them.” He finished with a sigh.
You thought about what he was saying for a moment and it seemed like he knew quite a lot about how it felt like, and then it dawned on you.
“Did you... imprint on someone already?” You asked slowly, not really sure if you wanted to know the answer.
“No, not yet.” He said still not looking your way.
“Oh, it’s just that, I thought, since you know so much about it that you might have, ya know, imprinted.” You stumbled through your sentence.
“Well the woman that was there in the kitchen earlier was Sam’s fiancé. And he had imprinted on her. The pack shares a mind link so we all know each other’s thoughts and feelings. I know what it’s like through Sam’s experience.” He finished.
After hearing that you felt somewhat relieved but you couldn’t help but feel bad for feeling this way.
“I see, but that still doesn’t explain why you won’t look at me.” You said until you remembered one small detail. “Wait is it... cause you’re scared you’ll imprint on me? I won’t force you to look at me if you don’t want it to be me.”
“No, it’s not that. It’s actually the opposite.” He replied sheepishly.
“What do you mean?” You were beyond confused at this point.
“Promise me you listen to everything I have to say?” He asked.
“Of course.” You said earnestly, grabbing his hand and entwining your fingers together for support.
“In all honesty, it’s not that I’m scared it’s gonna be you. I’m scared that it won’t be you. Y/N I’ve been in love with you since the moment I met you and I’m scared that if I imprint on someone that isn’t you all of that will go away. Everything I knew and loved will be stripped from me the moment I imprint. I have a duty once that happens and I won’t be able to be around you as much and the thought of that hurts me so much it’s crazy.” He finished with a sigh.
Your mind completely blanked and the only thought you had left was the face that Jacob loves you. He’s in love with you! At this new revelation, you finally had the courage to admit something out loud.
“You don’t know how long I’ve been wanting to hear that.” You chuckled in relief as your eyes glossed over with unshed tears, “One thing I know for sure is that no matter what happens I’ll always be here for you and I’ll make sure you won’t forget who you are. We are in this together no matter what happens.”
You gave his hand a quick squeeze of comfort before letting go and raising your hand to his cheek.
“Jacob, please look at me.” You said lightly stroking his cheek.
He took a second to think about your words before deciding to just do it. He slowly looked your way but kept his eyes to the ground. Eventually he moved his eyes up to connect with yours.
Next thing you knew you both felt like you were floating. The ground no longer felt like it was under you and the world around you felt nonexistent. Relief filled you both and you were staring at each other with absolute love and adoration. You felt connected to each other more than you ever had before.
Jacob then reached up to hold your face in his hands, silently asking you a question. You quickly understood what he wanted and you closed your eyes and leaned into him as your hands moved to wrap around his neck.
He met you half way, as your lips finally connected. It was more wonderful than you ever thought it possibly could be. You felt right at home. Eventually you broke apart to get some air and you already missed the feeling.
“I love you.” You said staring right into his eyes.
“I love you more than you could ever know.” He replied as he beamed at you as if you were his whole world.
He stared at you with loving eyes as his love for you doubled in a instant. You were both happy to finally have each other back. Who knew a little bad timing could lead to such good outcomes?
A/N: Man I loved the way this one came out so much!!! I really hoped you like it! Anyone that wants to request please do! I’ll try my best to write it as good as possible! And I hope all of you liked this story as well!
