I just think that the versions with all the trauma, suffering and history deserved a happy ending. I don’t think the take away should be that the only way to get a happy ending is for those things to have never happened to you.

The GO finale took a story that was about how we -- demons, angels, and humans -- we're all people. We grow and change, we make friends and become partners and adapt to each other, we take little steps forward and big steps back and creep forward again.

And threw it all away.

It made Crowley the hero because of who he was back when he was an angel. Not the person he grew into through trauma, yes, but also through good times and joint magic tricks with Aziraphale.

It sidelined Aziraphale as a secondary character whose development beyond that of a typical angel was only owing to Crowley.

It proposed that no other angels or demons are capable of real character growth or of getting to the evolved place that Crowley has achieved. This was after two seasons of showing us how sad and lonely angels and demons are, how like us they are. Now none of them will ever get the chance to enjoy the kind of life that A&C had.

It completely went against the idea of not testing or changing things to the point of destruction.

It forgot all the rules lawyering and gaming the system and imagination that these two know how to leverage. Why could they not have asked for a universe in which everyone was restored and angels and demons were prevented from interfering with humanity? A universe in which angels and demons got to be people, too?

It completely neglected to include actual humans as part of the solution.

I'm baffled and heartbroken.

I really did appreciate how unlikable She was in that scene. Even with Her shipping them, even with Her granting Crowley his wish and pressing both of them to ask their questions, it felt like She was treating them as playthings. There wasn't respect there. She's above them. She can give them what they want, or not, or do it while twisting the knife, because it's easy and it ultimately makes no difference to someone who's omnipotent.

I really, truly enjoy a fan take on God where She's legitimately fond and protective of Aziraphale for being willing to damn himself at Eden and Uz in order to protect Her creation. It fits a human's desire for what an angel should be and how God should feel about that, and it's also really fun!

But the God of the Flood? That's who we got here.

They sacrificed their love so that we, humans, could love each other and make decisions. They spent 6000 years teaching each other that humanity is not a toy. They died for us, they love us as much, if not more than they love each other. They are our deities, our creators. They are Love. We are children of Love.

well apparently everyone else hates it. i do not. i love it. i love what they did with it, i love that crowley got to choose, i love that he chose humanity, that he did not choose to run away.

because THAT is who he is. he loves his stars and creations, he loves humanity, he loves the messiness, the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful, he loves watching them. he showed jesus all the kingdoms of the world to share that love with someone who he knows already felt it.

in the end, they made that choice together. it's a choice they have made before, over and over, saving humanity over themselves. no god, no angels, no demons, no thousands of years of suffering for all the millions of eternal beings.

personally, i choose to believe that god's last gift to them was integrating them into the fabric of the new universe, so they will find each other in every lifetime. but without anyone watching, without any plan behind it, without senseless suffering, without creating stars just to destroy them.

just the two of them, together, always.

GO hot take apparently

Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.

And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"

I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.

I really love how outspoken she is about representing proper care and compassion for these animals in the industry too.
