i feel like a lot of people don’t understand that Claudia’s defining trait as a character is the fact that she is a memory. she is a concept. i keep seeing people complain that “she was out of character in the seance scene” or that “she would never say that.” but you don’t know what she would say!! everything we know about Claudia is someone else’s interpretation of who she is—INCLUDING the seance scene, which is still in lestat’s perspective. even on the rare occasion when she does speak for herself, we’re still seeing her through someone else’s eyes. we will never know Claudia’s version of the story because she is dead.

my SPOILER thoughts on IWTV / TVL 3x06:

- this was a /version/ of claudia specifically one that wants to say the most hurtful thing to them, and we know she is /good/ at that

- this does not negate season 1-2 love that the family had, but it adds the layer of claudia’s manipulation and hatred

- hatred and love coexist in ugly ways which is the thesis of this show

- TVL is weaker for not having black writers. i do think claudia would say hurtful things and that would include jabs about race, but many lines still felt. off. and a black writers room would make it better

- they’re making the point that claudia’s been saying forever! she (and many other women) are just another casualty of loustat’s stormy romance!!! and louis and lestat discussing the seance afterwards and then being like ugh what if we lived in a trailer in the desert teehee. that’s the point is that they SUCK and use claudia as a way of getting close to each other LEAVE HER ALONE
