A wacky thing about the Belgariad is that instead of the LOTR method where the party gathers fairly early on, there's a solid two books, or roughly that (maybe more?), of gathering individuals from all the different kingdoms/regions.

Consequently there's been some discussion during the "Dev Tells the Belgariad" bedtime sessions about "the party" and the process of "building the party."

Our child has really taken to this concept and regularly informs me about new additions to his party to defeat the Demon King.

Before there was Moo Deng, there was William.

This little blue hippopotamus, known affectionately as William, has been a fan favorite at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for over a century. Dating back to Egypt’s Middle Kingdom (c. 1961–1878 BCE), William was likely placed in tombs to offer protection in the afterlife.

His bright faience glaze and lotus decorations connect him to the Nile’s waters—but don’t let his charm fool you! Ancient Egyptians knew that hippos were both revered and feared, making William a powerful symbol. He epitomizes the Egyptian craftsmanship of the era.

So today while I was going through boxes of stuff from my childhood home at my sister's house, I found a box of loose photos, an old Polaroid camera, two of my mom's nice blouses, and the sealed box of her ashes.

And then I cried! And my dad, who had stopped by to say hello, came down to say goodbye to me and just totally and completely ignored that I was weeping.
