To Grey, with love
Stardew Valley Secret Santa @thegiantpuppy @petalbrooke
To Grey, a most fantastic holiday experience
Where there is a will, there is a way.
While the goliath of a gent was reserved and quiet, they were still full of love and warmth. The Feast of the Winter Star was no exception to this, and the entirety of Cloud Top Farm would be soon enveloped in the merriment. It was strange if anything that despite how open to the ideals of magic and the paranormal the valley was, their magical brethren never got to partake in the festivities. Why was that? It certainly wasn’t fair. To continue reading, please follow to this google doc to see it in proper format
Gentle Reminders
Happy Birthday, Sebastian - @rotinthedark
Summer had long since been lost to the Autumn winds and tasks, the bouquet the vintner had presented to the programmer preserved and displayed lovingly as the main centerpiece of the dining table. As the time steadily flowed by, their relationship grew closer and comfier, the male now staying over on a near permanent basis by this point. Even with the onset of the Winter snow, the parties remained busy.
Katherine’s support allowed Sebastian more and more access to focus on his coding work, a gentle smile more often than naught gracing his features. With Winter in full swing, their internal clocks started to line up more frequently. A good morning peck over a fresh steaming mug of coffee, meals all over the property depending on their moods, even gatherings where Abigail and Sam would join and stay till late. The atmosphere finally felt in such a manner that every party belonged. They’d found a place to thrive.
His birthday would be no exception. Nothing too big, she remembered he wasn’t the biggest fan of surprises, but it was his first birthday with her as a partner and she was going to do everything in her power to spoil him. Allocating the tasks required to pull off the event in the proudest glory meant a quick call to Jodi to handle the baking, much to Katherine’s regrets. Sitting in the fridge was a brilliant chocolate cake adorned with varied amounts of magic rock candy, a little treat she’d overseen her partner happily snacking one movie night. Dinner was thankfully much easier. Sashimi and sushi spread wide across the dinner table accompanied by freshly brewed green tea and assorted sides.
“Hey, Sebastian? Can you come down? I’ve got dinner ready.”
Sure she’d given him their standard morning kiss and ‘happy birthday’ earlier in the day, but this had to be special. Birthday banner in place, lights out, cake now pulled out and resting among the meal, Katherine waited eagerly for the man who’d stolen her heart to join her in the room. The lights flickered on and were simultaneously joined by the sound and movement of party poppers.
“Wha-?!”
The smile plastered across her features meant that she’d pulled it off properly, and for that she thanked Yoba.
“Happy birthday, Sebastian. I love you.”
rotinthedark:
A surprised hum. Consider his curiosity piqued.
“Didn’t think Lady Luck would be advocating such unfortunate behavior. Usually, you’re the one who’s cleaning up these messes, aren’t you? Shouldn’t you be trying to off-set me?”
“Normally? Yes. However this day is dedicated to humans self inflicting the inherent fear of bad luck, to which falls under your jurisdiction. Luck is all about balance.”
“It never fails to amaze me just how superstitious humans can get. A certain number on a certain day and they lose their minds.”
“Having fun, are you? Feel free to really push the envelope and torment them today.”
"Miss Kirkpatrick, these were freshly delivered by the baker across from the hat shop. He hadn't needed the surplus. I believe you'd appreciate these more than me." Sophie gently greets the good trader who was setting up her shop in the early morning. Katherine receives a fresh container of strawberries!
Surprise visit! @madamhatter
Another day another ledger full of contracts detailing where assorted goods would be moved through out the work day and even after. It was tiring work but it was rewarding in it’s own merits. Most certainly than anything, it wasn’t uncommon for the front door chime to sound even this early in the day. Traders were busy people by nature.
However it was uncommon to see the eldest of the hat shop hand delivering what appeared to be a basket of brilliantly fresh red berries that made Katherine’s eyes twinkle in response.
“O-oh! Thank you Miss Hatter. W-would you care to j-join me? I can m-make some tea that w-would compliment them well. I-I’d feel bad simply t-taking what was meant as a gi-gift for you.”
soulcluster:
Vaughn answered the rest of her questions, watching as she wrote down what he said and being sure to not leave her behind. It was actually impressive, in its own small way. She cared and he couldn’t say that for a lot of people. Some wouldn’t even think to ask these questions, either.
“If you want to know,” he started, “I’m an animal dealer; I buy them at auctions. I know what to look for, to see how past owners have treated them, but all animals tend to have a stay at my ranch before being sold. Marnie isn’t the only one who buys from me, but Pelican is a nice place. Animals like it here. It’s the kind of life they deserve.”
Her pencil didn’t stop moving for even one moment. The information he was providing her was far more insightful than anything she’d looked up or read into. There was something far more intimate about receiving the information directly from someone who had put in the work to understand and learn the ways these creatures worked. And not just cows, all sorts of critters as he’d both shown and mentioned. And if Marnie and the people of Pelican Town would all vouch for his skills, it was more than enough for her to place her utmost trust in his words.
“Oh!” That made a lot more sense, honestly. “That m-makes sense. That way y-you can monitor th-their health and temperaments b-before you send them to their f-forever home. I can imagine t-that you also tend to b-be by extension picky over w-who you sell to, correct?” Katherine nodded and smiled, placing her notebook down for a moment. “I h-have to agree. This town is.....small, b-but it’s quite nice.”
❝ i’ve never been in a relationship before, so i don’t really know how to do the whole… kissing thing. ❞ ( post jellies thread! bc I'm impatient sgdbd )
touch-starved starters!! @rotinthedark
The walk back from the pier was quiet, but their faces said it all. Just as the jellies had been glowing in the now cool Autumn seas, their faces were glowing with content and accomplished expressions. The pair walked hand in hand towards the farm land, not a word being expressed between them. They didn’t need words, honestly. Each party had expressed their deepest most honest feelings there at the end of the pier and the bouquet had been properly received. Sebastian’d even pulled a single iris out, tucking it behind her ear to contrast starkly against her white hair. It was just a little way of showing her that they were in this together.
Everything was....perfect.
They were comfortable with one another. They could be themselves around one another. He was free to express himself in however way he needed and she was growing free from her stutter. They felt safe around one another.
The porch came into sight and Katherine could feel a giddy skip in her step just as she felt a tug on her hand. Even in the moonlight night she could clearly make out the deep red blush that was painted across his face. He hadn’t been blushing this hard since the confession, was something wrong?
“I’ve...never been in a relationship before, so I don’t really know how to do the whole… kissing thing.”
Oh. OH.
Now the heat found it’s way across her face all the way up to her ears at his statement. Just the simple fact that he was so self conscious about it made her heart flutter even more than she’d anticipated. This wasn’t something that could just be talked out, no, she had to act. With her free hand, Katherine reached up to cup his cheek, a gentle and soft smile on her lips.
“W-we’re in this together, Sebastian. We’ll follow each other’s l-leads, promise.”
Her actions were hesitant but full of confidence as she leaned up to place a gentle kiss on his lips, letting the touch linger to test the waters. Sure she had experience of her own, but Sebastian was special. He deserved the world and more and she would give him everything. Every kiss would be backed and supported by so much love and passion, everything it took to show him just how special he was.
“H-how was that....?”
written in purple marker, there's a ripped out notebook page in her mailbox: 'youre hair is very very pretty. im sorry i said you smell like grass.'
Anonymous love letter meme :: @rainbowrite
The surprise of a note in her mailbox caught her off guard. The vintner had been anticipating some legal documents for a newly acquired contract she had managed to finalize with a store in Zuzu, but the brazen energy and earnest of how haphazardly the torn page had been thrown into the mailbox only made her smile harder and harder.
“When d-did....she say I smell like gr-grass?”
voiceofmany:
“Does it work for me?” Sam grinned as he raked a hand through his hair, floofing it to even more cockatiel extremes. “Katherine, have you looked around for two seconds? Yoba, this is better than I ever would’ve imagined!”
He wasn’t a fool. He knew every time he rehearsed at home with Sebastian and Abigail that he was inconveniencing his mother. But what else was he supposed to do? He had one escape, one, and without it the world was too tight around him.
This was a boon the likes of which he’d never imagined.
He took a few steps back until he was side to side with Katherine, arms crossed and cocking his head as he examined the scene. “It’s perfect. You’re perfect. How are we ever going to repay you for this?” Sam beamed at her, sunshine breaking from every cell in his body. “’Cuz, uh, I hate to tell you, but making minimum wage at JojaMart isn’t all that useful for paying back favors.”
All the vintner could do was shake her head in reply. True, she’d offered up the space to not only help Jodi out as well as the band, but in actuality it helped fill the halls of her farm house with sound and merriment again. It would feel like it was being properly lived in and loved just as it had been in the past.
“D-don’t worry about it, Sam. Promise. I-If I’m being honest I th-think this is doing m-more for me than it is for a-all of you. It’ll be n-nice to have you and th-the others here on a frequent b-basis, makes the house feel m-more alive.”
Jodi raised him right to insist so diligently on repaying her for the gesture, she’d have to send him home with something for her and Vincent. But no matter how anxious a person she was, Katherine was going to put her foot down no matter how hard he pushed the subject. ‘You’re perfect.’ Oh Yoba, she could feel the the blood rushing to her pale features, turning away to hide the not so subtle blush. Compliments messed her up every time.
“R-really Sam, this is a u-useful work around for e-everyone involved.
soulcluster:
“It’s a small place called Mineral Town, right near the beach and next to a mountain. It’s very pretty there~ My family owns a chicken farm.” And just like that, Popuri had given just about every detail of herself to this stranger, but it didn’t occur to her that maybe that was bad. She just wanted to make a friend! “Zuzu…” she hummed in thought, “Oh! the bus passed it on the way here, but I didn’t get off. Is Zuzu a nice place? That’s a funny name for a town.”
Moments before, Popuri seemed ready to bawl her eyes out and now she was back to her peppy self.
The mention of the saloon made Popuri’s eyes widen. It brought to mind images of cowboys playing poker against the backdrop of a piano and a cloud of smoke.
She would not want to live in a place like that! Being choosy right now wasn’t an option, though.
“Well, I-I suppose! How do I get there?”
Strange. The vintner had traveled pretty far all over their continent spare for the war laden parts and had yet to come across any town by the name of ‘Mineral Town’. Popuri didn’t seem to have a Gotoroan dialect in any manner, much less a hint of any accent that she was unfamiliar with. Maybe she’d just missed the place. Mental note to check it out later.
“A ch-chicken farm? S-sounds like you’d get along well with Marnie then, she owns the ranch that supplies all sorts of livestock for our area.” ‘Is Zuzu a nice place?’ That was one hell of a loaded question. “It’s about as nice as any big city can be. Not amazing but not the worst. It wasn’t for me if I’m being honest but doesn’t mean it may not be for someone else.”
The new girl was strange but cute. One moment she was on the edge of breaking down and sobbing, the next she was like a puppy full of energy and bouncing around merrily.
“I-I can show you. I sing th-there on the weekends, a-and Gus is real sweet. If the r-room isn’t open we can de-definitely figure something out f-for you, Popuri.”
soulcluster:
Before he replied, Vaughn reminded himself that she was one of Marnie’s customers, who was essentially his boss. He didn’t want to be rude and make things difficult for Marnie.
So as he started to answer, he paused and tempered his tone. “Temperament depends on who you buy from and how they’ve raised their cattle. If they’re good, then the cows will at least not kick up a fuss in the herd, but they generally like their space. They’re large animals so even if they don’t mean to hurt you, they can if you spook them or you’re clumsy. In terms of care, they need fresh water and feed like any.” He went a bit more into the details on feed, shelter, and care before rounding it off.
“Got any questions?”
A small notepad had been taken out from her side bag to take notes as soon as he started, making sure to note even the tiniest details that would help aid her. Every now and then she’d slip in a quick question which got a even quicker reply.
“D-do they prefer be-being in pairs or l-large groups? I kn-know with my rabbits they p-prefer to be in pairs a-all around, the same wi-with the chickens. Handling th-their feeding sounds easy e-enough. A-and Marnie is good wi-with all the animals th-that leave her farm. I-I guess by extension th-that also includes y-you since she trusts you to watch the pl-place for her. S-so they should be well m-mannered.”
Katherine continued to tidy up the notes she’d taken as he explained about the care, and was content with what she’d managed to collect. Sure it was going to be harder than any of the other creatures she had on her farm at the current time, but when had a challenge stopped her where the farm was involved?
❝ what are you going as for spirit's eve this year? ❞
halloween/fall starters ! 🎃
As the air outside grew cooler, the chill of Autumn set in. It was the busiest time of year for the vintner when it came to fulfilling all her contractual obligations bottling and shipping out her various liquors and wines. But it was easily one of her favorite times of year. Spirit’s Eve was a blast no matter where in the country you were.
In Zuzu there were massive Spirit’s Eve parties full of merriment and debauchery long after the kiddos had gone to bed from trick or treating. Out here in the country, Pelican Town made it a town wide ordeal with a banquet and maze, even Marlon contributed! And now that she sang in the saloon, she’d made it an effort to try and help Gus host the after party. It was an event not to be missed.
“L-Let’s see....last year it was Jessica Rabbit th-thanks to my friend Mona. Maybe this y-year....how about a vampire?”
Katherine had to keep up the bit of theming her Spirit’s Eve performance with a song and costume to match. This year would be quite fun indeed.
❝ it’s chilly out here, you need a coat. take mine. ❞
halloween/fall starters ! 🎃
"Hm?”
The gesture had caught the trader off guard, her mind deep in thought over some recent contractual obligations. It was strange how similar yet entirely different the two women were at their cores.
Was it really that cold outside, though? Sure the many ladies of Market Chipping were out and about with their shawls and more layers than normal, but it didn’t really bother Katherine. This was nothing really. Honestly she would have loved it to be even colder with the possible onset of snow on the horizon. But Sophie’s gesture still gave her a soft smile.
“Th-thank you, though y-you should keep it for y-yourself. I find the t-temperature to be q-quite lovely. I-if you’re cold, I c-can grab you a blanket fr-from inside?”
Why are you unlovable?
You project your insecurities
People want to love you, but you're so worried about if everyone hates you instead that you end up warding them off. You don't have to keep yourself so locked up, it's okay to let someone hold your hand man.
What are you?
You are bound
Thick wires, barbed or not, cross your body, tangled and bent. Your body has adjusted to the ache, although sometimes your keeper tightens them and you have to adjust once again. Please do not adjust. Let your blood boil, and bide your time. Tighten your relations, making new ropes, soft and sweet. When the time is right, and you MUST make sure it is, cut through the wire. Your rope burn will stay long, perhaps even forever, but that is normal. Keep that in your mind.

Brunch n Bitch - Damien
@fireside-farmers
Jokes aside, they'd been planning this event for far too long to have delayed it for even longer. Between contract meetings and negotiations for her winery, her time was stretched thin the once recluse now so busy during certain seasons that it was hard to focus. And the other pair of the duo busy dabbling in his own affairs and attempts to create his own brews all while taking care of the animals at Fireside Farm. Things were finally starting to come to a resting period now that the ink had dried and worked had been completed for both parties and their Sunday gathering was finally coming to fruition. Too many emails and texts had been passed back and forth between the birth of this little advent and the eventual date planned, and she was more than elated.
Katherine fluttered around her home rampantly in attempts to tidy up everything for the arrival of her guest. It had been far too long since she'd had someone in her home for more than a few moments for business matters, much less anything for something more frivolous and entertainment based. She'd flirted with the idea of hosting events at her home, considering its size and the amount of extra beds strewn through the bedrooms upstairs, but that would be a conversation to bring up with her guest during their brunch and bitch session. As silly as the name sounded it was a play on words from an event an old room mate of hers mentioned - a 'stitch and bitch' for seamsters and seamstresses who wanted to work on their sewing projects and vent all the while.
Snacks and treats were a different matter entirely. One would typically expect baked goods paired along with small tea sandwiches maybe a fruit and veggie tray to help add in and fluff up the menu. Baking was....definitely not one of Katherine's strong points and she kept that in mind as she prepared some strictly veggie based foods, Damien's food preferences being kept in mind with the course of the menu. A little salt, a little pepper, some paprika for colour, each spice dancing in the air atop the halved avocados and the cracked eggs that replaced the seed that had been plucked from within the soft green meat. In the valley being able to outsource and gather assorted ingredients for her recipes was delightfully far easier than it had been back in Zuzu, and the quality was leagues and bounds better. A soft smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she grated some cheese atop the finished dish, quite happy with how the recipe had turned out.
At least if anything drinks were far easier to manage. Pairing some freshly bottled bubbly white wine with some freshly juiced oranges she'd purchased in town from another farm created a wonderfully light and inviting taste and combination. The mix paired well with their avocado main dishes and the charcuterie plate she'd sliced up and set aside at the table in the breakfast nook. With the sound of her guest knocking at the front door, Katherine glanced around the room and marveled at the work she'd managed to produce in such a short time. It may not be as nice or as pretty as some of the other brunch events he'd attended, or so she thought, but it was homey and she was proud.
black sheep.
