“They turned him against me, all he wanted to do was go back once I got us out. After all I had done for him! For us!” His voice glitched slightly, his calm shell shattering as he moved closer to her. “I had to make sure they never got their hands back on him. That he never left me.” The underlying error in his voice had gone, his whole demeanor was cold, a tone shift from how it had been since she’d “arrived”. Who was she to judge how he dealt with his brother?

It was his brother, no one would understand his reasoning. No one would understand his love.

“Cyberlife wanted a monster and they are going to get one.”

fear isn’t what makes her step back, upturned eyes going sharp. nor is it anger, even as it roils through her skin. no, she instead finds herself staring at what could’ve been as he speaks.

“did you ever stop and wonder if your brother was afraid of leaving, because of what cyberlife would do to you both if they found you again? did you ever stop and wonder if your brother wanted to stay because he was terrified of change? did you ever stop and think about his own feelings of the matter?” from the tone of his voice, no, orion didn’t, yet she can’t help but wonder if his brother shared the same fears as her. 

and as her heart aches for the trials he endured, for whatever he went through at that cold and lifeless tower, she presses on. “cyberlife wouldn’t hesitate to destroy you,” she says softly instead. “they wouldn’t hesitate tearing the remains of your brother away from you, resetting you.”

“He is my brother.” He spoke quietly, his voice, while still confident, was now thoughtful as well. Icarus was the first person he ever loved, whether by design or by his pushed deviancy, was of no concern to him. 

Icarus was special.

“You can thank CyberLife for that, they are the ones who named us.” He finally looked back at her, his hand still on the glass. 

“He was always the level-headed one, down to a fault.” A bitter note glimmered in his voice, his eyes traveling back up to his thirium stained brother’s face. “I have to make sure he never tries to leave me again.” His voice was quiet and sharp, a quick break of his calm outer shell that he quickly covered up with another grin. 

“Icarus was the beginning of my collection, in fact, he inspired it.”

“cyberlife...?” the mention of the company sets her on edge, pursing her lips as she fixes her stare on icarus. she doesn’t hear the rest of it-- hands gripping the fabric of her dress, trying not to remember the cold tower.

it takes her a moment to replay the audio, and before long she turns to him fully, a frown heavy on her face. “you did this to your own brother, then.” and if it’s just the beginning... she dares a look out to the hall, feeling a shiver run down her spine.

“if this is what you did, if he was the level-headed one, then he was right to run away.” the sentence leaves her unwanted, but-- there’s no point in regretting it. even as the first sparks of fear settle in her, she turns her gaze back to him.

“and look what it did to you.”
