I've seen many of you have um... what were these called... blogs (I hope I got it right) here so I decided to join. Who knows, maybe we'll get to know each other better than before.

For the ones who don't know me I should introduce myself:

Name: Ianthe

Year of death: 1907 (21 years old)

Nationality: Greek

Social status (while alive): Noble

Cause of death: fell off a cliff in an attempt to escape my fiancé

Affiliation: Lenore’s group (The Misfits)

Likes: Astronomy, astrology, philosophy, genuine people, kindness, jewelry, butterflies, her country, weak pathetic man

Dislikes: Lies, manipulation, cruelty, being taken advantage of, being stared at

Height: 180cm (5'11")

// In the following paragraphs I'll present her story so far:

While alive:

Young Ianthe is coming from a greek noble family. Very beautiful and bright she was set up (by her parents in exchange of some land) with a lower class astronomer who used her looks, her social status and even her studies to succeed without even loving her.

After a first attempt to escape her fiancé he catches her and locks her inside a basement. After she was threatened and nearly assaulted she runs away again. Being scared and chased she trips and falls off a high cliff, dying.

In the afterlife:

She meets Lenore, Duke and Pluto in the maze after her roommate dies and like them is not able to manifest yet. Later, in the manor she manifests, after being chased and hurt by Annabel (in her spectre form). Since she manifested, she’s being repeatedly begged by Ada to join Annabel’s group but she declines every time. After the manor trial is over, and Lenore comes back from Dreamland, the (2) girls alongside Pluto go to Will for questioning. All this time Ianthe is criticizing Lenore for being a little bit to agressive to Will and even for making him break down. She is also the only one that rushed to help him after being almost chocked to death by Montresor (in trance). That’s probably the time she starts having a crush on the poor guy. The idea is that she is starting to get close to Will and eventually gains his trust so she is able to find out some things about Annabel’s group. In one of the following chapters Ianthe confesses her crush to Will but he tells her he’s not into girls (i mean, c'mon we all know that already :) ). Even though she was kinda upset at first, Ianthe agrees to remain friends with him. The wild hunt attack finds Ianthe with her friends (the misfits) in their secret hideout after the blood pact. She remains with Eulalie, Pluto and Duke until they bump into Monty and Will. She chooses to remain with them after Will gets hurt by the stag and somehow hides so it can’t reach her, choosing to go after his friends. (Of course she promises her friends that they’ll meet at the arboretum.) Later, while Montresor is trying to defend them, Ianthe is trying to stop Will from bleeding out. (And she basically does her best to keep him alive. And witnesses to the willtresor kiss AAHHHH she's probably now idk yet, she's happy for her friend but Monty is such a horrible person). She breaks down crying when Will dies only to faint when she and Monty see him appearing from around the corner. Aaaand that's it ... at least for now... :)

Happy Halloween, everyone! I must admit this celebration is quite entertaining! I wish I had heard about it sooner.

Madeline stared out the window with a wistful expression, toying with a gemstone necklace. Her head turned towards Ianthe, "hello." She smiled. "It's a beautiful day, is it not?"

Well, I guess it is! [She smiles, but she has this thought that can't leave her mind, maybe she should voice it]

Now that I think about it... this day was a little bit too calm... Maybe Miss Poppet is preparing a new trial! I'm aware she usually tells us but who knows? Anyway, how are you? I didn't see you with the others earlier. It is everything alright? [She asks smiling softly as she steps closer to her friend]

"Oh yes, I'm quite alright," said Madeline. "I was relishing in the quiet; they can be quite the rowdy bunch at times."

What a beautiful necklace you got there! I'm surprised I didn't notice it earlier. Do you mind if I ask you about the gemstone? As you may know, I love jewelry. [She hopes she wasn't to indiscreet by asking this and there is a very slight change in her expression at this thought.]

"Aventurine," Madeline replied. "Apparently, it is supposed to make me lucky. Though very little has happened to prove that."

I'm afraid I find myself in the same situation. [She is more relaxed now]

Even though I'm wearing aquamarine and yellow sapphire which are supposed to be my birthstones, things don't seem to go very well... You know, there are some people that say you should wear gemstones that are linked to the month you were born or to your zodiac sign to bring you joy and prosperity, but from what I have observed that's not the case. [Few moments of silence. She thinks about something.]

Someone once told me that if you believe enough in something, your subconscious would automatically direct your thoughts and actions towards achieving it. The most interesting thing, however, is that most of the times you don't even notice you are the one that takes steps forward to the thing you want to happen.

Anyway, the idea is you should not lose hope. We are all here for a second chance after all... [She slowly places he hand on Madeline's shoulder in a comforting manner 🙂]

"I wish I had your optimism, Ianthe," Madeline closed her eyes as she mulled over her words. "I never quite believed in wishing upon a star, even as a little girl." She let go of her necklace and let it thud dully against her chest. "How much do you remember about your life?"

My memory is still quite foggy but I think I remember just the essential: people, names, my relationship with the said people, the place where I lived... But many details are still missing... I have only got some pieces and I think I will need more to be able to put them together. As I have noticed, memories are triggered by some specific feelings or sensations. I think we just have to be patient and we will get all the answers we need.

I remember my family quite well. My mother and my father were quite distant... but my sister was always there for me and we were pretty close [she smiles as her gaze drifts apart for a moment as her expression gets a hint of melancholy] until we were not anymore... I still can't remember why... [she regains herself]

What about you? Did you remember anything about your family, siblings perhaps?

"I do," she sighed, "though the more I remember about them... the more I wish I could forget." Madeline shook her head. "I wanted to be a singer, my father considered the profession whorish and forbade me... I performed in an opera anyway but... I cannot remember what happened after that."

It is alright. Believe me, I can relate... [Sighs] Even though my father owned many books he wouldn't let me read what I wanted. My mother often picked books for me, always the ones fitting for "proper ladies". When I grew, I usually entered our library and stole books I was interested in, mainly astronomy, but I had to read them fast and put them back so nobody would notice. Luckily I made many notes.

When they started to notice my passion for science, they probably made finding me a suitor a priority. This backfired because at the dances I was usually seeking scientists and professors to share my ideas.

Then I got engaged to an "astronomer" but it didn't worked out... [she gets more tense]

"Men of that calibre typically have the most fragile egos," Madeline nudged Ianthe with her shoulder. "You were probably smarter than him, and he couldn't handle it." She gave her a reassuring smile, "I will not ask what happened, it seems a private thought. Believe me, I have dealt with more than my fair share of pathetic men, and I find that considering their behaviours and actions is far more attention than they deserve. They had the world handed to them, while we had to fight for what we wanted. I believe that to be far more impressive, wouldn't you agree?"

Oh, you are absolutely right! They had all the opportunities they could wish for but we had to struggle and we usually didn't get what we wanted. I'll always appreciate the ladies who manage to make their dreams come true. [She is relaxed now]

Anyway, thank you for your kind words! They mean a lot. [Smiles]

As you said, we probably shouldn't even think about them anymore. We have to focus on more important matters like figuring out a way for us to "graduate" and get this second chance at life. And of course to stick together and care for each other. [Her gaze drifts for a second towards the rest of the misfits as they're standing on the other side of the corridor, talking to each other, then again at Madeline].

"Indeed," she smiled. "Can you imagine how mortified our fathers would be? Ladies, in school. I don't particularly care much for a second chance, I'm just enjoying this..." she gestured vaguely around them. "A true community..." with a smirk she added. "I also don't want Prospero getting it, and the amusing thing is I haven't a single clue as to why I loathe him so."

Well... I never really spoke to him, but he comes off to me as reserved, thoughtful and quite intelligent. Plus, he doesn't seem to participate in many of his allies antics which is alright, I suppose. He seems arrogant, though. What a shame! I am guessing Annabel Lee's influence plays a huge role in her group's dynamic.

"They are a strange bunch," Madeline agreed. "Though I think I just don't like doctors very much."

I can understand that. [Slight smile as she remembers her own silly reactions to the medicine she was supposed to take whenever she caught a cold. Her expression turns to one of mild concern.]

I suppose it is more to it than adversity to those distasteful tinctures they usually shove up our throats when we get sick... [Careful not to upset her friend] You don't have to tell me, though... I would not want to bring back bad memories.

"It's quite alright," Madeline told her. "I was diagnosed with hysteria, the doctor decided the best way to cure it was a hysterectomy..." she sighed. "It was one of the first things I remembered, on account of the scar."

[Ianthe's expression changes into one of shock, it rapidly turns into a concerned one, her nails dug on the skin of her own arm.]

I would call that person a doctor just like I would call my fiancé an astronomer ... I swear those people took... how some of our classmates say... "fake it until you make it" to another level. [Tries to keep her calm but there's a hint of frustration and bitterness in her voice]

I didn't know you had to go through that, I am sorry I brought this up! Let's think about something else, shall we? [She puts on a soft, reassuring smile]

"Oh, it's quite alright, I never had much use for my uterus anyway." Madeline chuckled. "But I agree, anything else, let's see..." she considered new conversation topics carefully, pressing her hand to her lips. "Oh! In my luggage, I had a book, Pride and Prejudice, oh, it was wonderful." She clasped her hands together, "it thrilled me very much."

Ah! You truly have a great taste in literature! [She says as her excitement grows] You know, even though I was mostly drawn to scientifical books, romantic literature also has a special place in my heart. Your excitement is perfectly understandable.

"You may borrow it from me, if you like," said Madeline. "I finished it last night."

Oh! Thank you! I'm not quite sure I read it, but the name does ring a bell. As I said earlier, my memories are quite fragmented, but who knows? [Short pause in her speech as she thinks this through]

That is very kind, but it must be truly valuable for you since it was in your luggage. Are you sure you want to lend it?

"I can trust that you won't lose it," she said. "Besides, it's got my name written on the front page, if it ever is misplaced it would be quite easy to locate. Reading it helped me remember a few things; maybe it will help you as well."

Here are my astronomical records, you can have them for now... I know it is not much, but it has many drawings of the celestial phenomena I studied so far and the explanations for these are mainly given in usual language so you don't have to be accustomed with the scientific terms to understand them.
