i spent a long while with irrational fear of becoming 'a fandom mom' because of the connotations that came from the label over the years, but now that im grown and ive revisited my blog from when i was a teenager and the posts i made about my personal life, im realising that what happened is that i didnt feel safe confiding in anyone else about sexuality and its problems, and i happened to be lucky enough to have online older friends who cared about my well being when i was keeping it all to myself for everyone i knew IRL. at one point in time they were probably also kids who went through puberty with no guidance and wanted to assure other kids they came across so these ones could get at least a little comfort however they could help it.

and its making me realise that for all the concerns with 'fandom moms' being groomers, its most likely something of 1 creep to 20 normal adults, but in the society we live right now we're told that for you to care about a child's well being you either have to be a blood relative, a teacher, maybe a co-worker or you surely have a sexual interest in them. like having apathy for children should be the standard otherwise, or your only concern should be keeping their abstinence intact but guidence must be malicious. and that sexuality being innately tied with 'adulthood', while puberty is that odd limbo of the body reacting, hormones developing while having no social agency as an adult does, a bunch of kids resort to shadier corners because we simply cant be normal about sex. parents dont want to deal with the topic for one reason or another (often but not always religious concerns), schools are increasingly getting tied up from the subject but is also more often than not a negative association for teens, a place they dont trust, so theyre gonna go find out about this stuff wherever, if they dont get unwillingly exposed to it first.

i dont think anyone should go out of their way to make contact with kids in the first place, but i think im understanding better that the arbitrary way society is perceiving people having any sort of contact with children as innate perversion might be more detrimental than it might be really keeping kids safe

#ramble #non fandom #thank you to my fandom elders/moms wherever you may be nowadays #not that i didnt have bad experiences with adults growing up online of course but im appreciating the positive over the negative here #as unpopular as it may be im on the side of preferring kids being more aware than less and that includes them being annoying #but on the other hand please know that the system WANTS kids afraid and adults apathetic. this is how cases go under the radar #and the more you repel children the more theyll run to somebody who WILL take them in wherever they can #also no you dont have to parent anyone. you dont have any obligation to care.#if anything we should be looking into why the often 'feminine' position in fandoms have a 'motherhood' association #anyway sorry i havent picked up a pen in 2 months. and dbh in 3 years
