how much cunt he serves. no that’s a joke (although he DOES serve weapons grade cunt) i rlly love how complex yet cohesive he is?? like yeah he’s a hypocrite and has all these seemingly paradoxical traits but it all makes SENSE when put together into suguru as a whole. his compassion and selfishness, his strong moral compass and genocidal ideation… he’s a subtle character imo which might sound crazy considering the Everything about him but i mean more subtle in how his characterization flows. everything about him makes sense but is still so fucking fascinating bc it’s like. ok i see how you got from A to B but why the FUCK would compel you to go that route. so then you have to figure out what would compel him. lots of fun.
the same cld be said for a lot of jjk characters but i think suguru is my favorite example of what im calling contradictory cohesion bc hes such an extreme case. and even with that extremity he still feels real and believable. also i like that hes not coddled by the narrative even tho he’s believable and arguably sympathetic
least favorite thing about them
wait this is hard. i could go the cop out route and say his whole genocidal thing but honestly that’d be a lie bc that’s part of what makes him so utterly fascinating. the first thing that comes to mind is that he calls non-sorcerers monkeys which just feels weird to me? hmmm… it’s hard to pick a least favorite bc even the things i dislike are things that i find at least interesting or important to his character yannow?
probably “well… it is spring.” in response to satoru wondering if yaga’s “gone senile” bc it’s a perfect example of how he’s just as annoying and shitty as satoru even tho he hides it better under his Polite Young Man schtick
or any one of so fucking many times he says “satoru~” in a purr that makes u want to pray for satoru’s spine bc he’s def getting his back blown out later
hmm… i think his school-days friendship with nanami and haibara, especially the moment he had with haibara by the vending machines, is very cute. ultimately i think my answer is shoko bc i adore platonic sashisu, even tho i have a whole thesis on why shoko is more loyal to satoru.
if i’m allowed to pick from non-canon interactions, i think he’d get along with the first year trio well. i also think his friendship with nanami would continue into adulthood and nanami would only like him when satoru wasn’t around bc he’d find suguru just as insufferable when they were together

serious: i’ve talked at length abt this, but suguru killed his parents so early on on purpose, to deliberately trap himself in a sunk-cost fallacy wherein he wouldn’t be able to betray the ideals he killed his parents over. he had doubt about the path he was going down but knew there was no going back after the village, so he made it so he could never justify trying.
silly: biggest freak you’ve ever seen. would be walking satoru around the mall on a leash without a second’s hesitation if given the chance. so much worse and far more shameless than satoru in this respect, but hides it better.
