Matt was really careful nowadays when it came to getting his hopes up, but he could tentatively say the last few months had been… good. After seeing a therapist, he wasn’t obviously magically cured, but he was now able not to repeat to himself in his mind every day that voicemail Tony had left him. The nightmares were less frequent. He was getting a little more sleep. He graduated, which all things considered was surprising. He was still out there saving lives and Fisk was still in jail. And thankfully, no one had tried to assassinate Tony again. He wondered how long that would last. But for now, he’d enjoy this “peace”.
They both had a lot going on, and they hadn’t seen each other as much as they’d have liked to. It didn’t help that Tony lived hours away from New York now, while Matt was firmly planted in Hell’s Kitchen studying for the bar exam. But as soon as he had gotten his results back, he had to call Tony. He was officially a lawyer. His father would have been proud. But most importantly, Matt was excited about all the people he and Foggy were going to help. He’d bring justice to Hell’s Kitchen in more ways than one now.
Celebrating this fact was the perfect excuse to see Tony at least for a night. He remembered he had gotten used to Tony’s intoxicating cologne and natural smell, but the distance had made him vulnerable to all of that again. Could he be blamed for wanting to ravage his egocentric but obviously extremely hot boyfriend on the seat of this really expensive car? Matt was just human. A human who hadn’t seen his boyfriend in a really long time. He had a lot of pent up frustration, and Tony’s teasing kisses once they had arrived to Tony’s mansion outside of the Big Apple were not, in any way, making a good case as to why he had to wait until later to have him under him, “Dinner is not the only thing waiting,” He pointed out slightly frustrated, but smiling and following Tony up the staircase.
“It smells really good in here,” Matt admitted, and he knew right away that Tony hadn’t cooked it, but he hadn’t expected otherwise. He was actually surprised to hear at least the dessert was homemade though, and he chuckled at Tony’s self-deprecating honesty, “I promise I’ll smell it before I decide not to eat it if that’s the case,” He assured him, smiling with amusement as he took a seat.
He raised his eyebrows at Tony’s conversation opener. Interesting choice, “Did he?” Well, corporate lawyers were rats. But was Howard Stark honest enough to reject them? “Well. This is heading somewhere good. Didn’t he get… sued a lot, actually?”
Tony barked out a laugh. “Oh yeah, he absolutely did. I just think he didn’t like people who were smarter than him, even if it had nothing to do with engineering.” He cut his steak into pieces, taking a bite. Delicious, of course. Maybe he needed to pick up cooking as a hobby. He was a serial snacker, but maybe it would be nice to actually cook himself a meal that wasn’t wrapped up in the freezer. “I guess I was just raised on thinking all lawyers were kind of smarmy, y’know? And in my experience, some of them can be. I just... I think it’s really good that there’s people like you and Foggy out there doing what you do,” he smiled and reached over to hold Matt’s hand. “I’m really proud of both of you guys. You need to let me do something to help you guys start up your firm.”
