āthat character is a war criminalā that character is from a fictional fantasy world and did not attend the geneva convention
Yes I am a Darkling apologist.
I'm sorry that he is conceptually more interesting than all of tgt characters combined. I'm sorry that he is the soul of the grishaverse, that he's the one who makes the story move forward while your faves have to be dragged around by the plot. I'm sorry that none of your faves' sob stories could ever compare to the gut-wrenching tragedy that is living under oppression for centuries, having to watch everyone he cares about die, leaving him without anyone for company besides his toxic mother. I'm sorry that, despite hating him, the author herself is unable to let him stay dead because she knows he is her cash cow. I'm sorry that, as a villain, he was still a better love interest for the mc than the actual hero guy. I'm sorry that, as a villain, he was still the one who gave the grisha a fighting chance against their oppressors while your heroic faves were fighting to maintain the status quo. I'm sorry that he manages to look so fabulous while committing atrocities š„°

"This villain did nothing wrong" not in a "I do not see my meow-meow's crimes <3" way, but in a, "villains are still frequently coded as marginalized people fighting the system that marginalized them, and I identify more strongly with the villain than the hero that represents the status quo I hate."

āThe fact of his pulse, the way he pulled his body in, out of shyness or shame or a desire not to disturb the air around him. Everyone could see the way his muscles worked, the way we look like animals, his skin barely keeping him inside.ā

Qiu Minye (b. 1978, China) - My God (2013)
Qiu Minye has found a new way of recording time by removing the identity of an image and creating the exquisite shape, life and texture. The object is floating lightly in a soft space like a song. It equals to the existence itself, which makes us sigh for the nature and thus feel the gratitude to the artist for giving us the opportunity to experience the nature.
