So flipping through screencaps from boredom, I’ve noticed something.
Cooper doesn’t practice standard trigger discipline (aka, you don’t touch the trigger unless you’re intending in that moment to shoot something). Which I think adds to the suggestion that he knows a lot of things about weaponry in theory, but not on physical in-the-moment / live practice.
I really do think, regardless of what he’d said, he wouldn’t have shot Felicity anywhere vital, because I don’t think he’s actually shot at a person before. Heck in the angle that image, he’s more likely to shoot himself. Which is why you NEED trigger discipline.
Having poor trigger use also impacts the accuracy of your shot (often it is a probable reason for shots going to the left, since it means your hand is not fully stabilized, you’re not concentrating on what you’re doing, etc), and I think that might have been something some part of Cooper’s brain at least registered, because he doesn’t try and shoot Oliver / The Arrow back; he aims the gun at the hostage (Felicity) instead.
I think this is interesting, because from a technique standpoint, it’s not really technically wrong, as if you zoom in enough on the images, you can actually see his finger tips are what’s on the trigger and not the padded bit of the finger by the knuckle since a lot of people tend to curl their fingers around triggers and honestly that’s wrong because you need smooth, consistent pressure for a trigger to go properly, and not just hard force. I don’t know if that’s just some leftover mental thing in Nolan from Riddick or an intentional thing, but it does suggest a lot.
Like, he’s probably only shot at non-living targets before.
