BRIDGERTON (2020-) SOPHIE AND BENEDICT
4.08 Dance in the Country
That's his thing đ„șđ€
Given just how dramatic the revelation about Benedict and Sophieâs relationship was in 4x08 when he practically gave his siblings whiplash from finding out, I am wholeheartedly convinced there is a running family joke circulated every time something minor happens that bears even the vaguest resemblance of a loverâs quarrel between them (i.e. when Benedict does something that could even remotely warrant Sophieâs ire)âŠ
[Sophie admonishing Benedict for not bundling up more during the wintertime and contracting influenza, forgetting how to properly fold a bedsheet, becoming so engrossed in painting that he forgets to take a break to eat/drink, carelessly ruining a perfectly good shirt in his haste to tear off his clothes and get her undressed, neglecting to mention his back is sore from a day of riding so that she could massage the tension out for him, etc]
When such an occasion arises, the Bridgerton siblings take it upon themselves to rib Benedict about his dramatic reaction to Sophieâs departure that day at any given opportunity:
âBUT YOU CANNOT LOSE SOPHIE TO THE AMERICAS!!!â
âYou must chase her to the docks, brother!â
âCharter a boat!!â
âSwim across the Atlantic for her!!!â
âLiberate her from prison!!!!â
Benedict, of course, is less than amused by their antics, but hearing Sophieâs laughter at their overly theatrical reenactments certainly helps ease the sting of the joke. [The passionate kisses she gives him in the privacy of their bedroom after being reminded of how distraught and forlorn he was about being separated from her also donât hurt đ€·đ»ââïž]
My love has made me selfish. I cannot exist without you â I am forgetful of everything but seeing you again â my Life seems to stop there â I see no further. You have absorbâd me. I have a sensation at the present moment as though I was dissolving â I should be exquisitely miserable without the hope of soon seeing you ⊠I have been astonished that Men could die Martyrs for religion â I have shudderâd at it â I shudder no more â I could be martyrâd for my Religion â Love is my religion â I could die for that â I could die for you.
"The Human Seasons" by John Keats // Benedict & Sophie
"But a portrait captures only a single moment in time, and whether this current portrait of Mr. Bridgerton signifies any particular interest in the marriage mart, this author remains uncertain, for any return to society brings with it a number of compelling distractions." - Bridgerton S04E04

Happy Benophie Day! Today, June 5th, holds a special place in the hearts of Benophie fans - it's the anniversary of the day Sophie and Benedict first met at that fateful masquerade ball in 1815. So, while this is technically also my first one-shot in the Benophie Week series (June 12th-19th), it feels right to share it with you now, on this day that means so much to their story.
This is a series of eight interconnected one-shots celebrating the timeless love of Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek. Each story stands alone, a glimpse into a different era, a different life, but they are all tied together by the red string of fate that binds these two souls across time and space.
The Art of Loving
Wade a little deeper into a world where soulmates find each other again and again, no matter the century or the circumstances. This series of eight interconnected one-shots reimagines Benedict and Sophie's story across different historical settings, each a unique exploration of the societal expectations, class differences, and their own fears and desires. Through ballrooms and battlefields, studios and stairwells, Benedict and Sophie fight for their love, proving that some connections are simply meant to be.
... one analysis that might be proposed is that the poet is submitting his hand for either acceptance or rejection, in a formal manner: he is, quite literally, offering his hand. "This living hand, now warm and capable" by John Keats // Benedict and Sophie
