I figured out basically immediately this was a training exercise but I admit I was surprised as HELL when that guy just fucking iced Luke's old friend Tom right in the head. I was like WHAT IS HAPPENING. That was really a shocking move tbh

I also pretty much immediately knew that one of these clowns had to be the one to kill Tom. I see what they were doing with the possible suicide angle and stuff but, like Luke, I also did not believe it of Tom, who we met three episodes ago and seemed to be very cognizant of suicidal behavior amongst vets and I don't think he would have gone out that way by forcing someone else to kill him. Why would he curse someone else with that guilt. I however was wrong about who it was (my money was on one of the other trainees until almost to the end)

I think I have used this analogy in a couple places and I am saying it again: Brian is like a pathetic, wet stray dog that keeps showing up on Emily's porch that she wants nothing to do with but feels bad about so she keeps leaving him bowls of food and water but then somehow being surprised that he keeps showing back up with his big wet sad eyes and she grumbles and grumbles but then scratches behind his ears and he wags his tail and she laughs but then he pisses on her azaleas and she yells at him and chases him out of the yard again.

Luke telling Emily he knows he won't be allowed on the case (remembering what hapepend with Phil) and then Emily's immediately like nah fuck it you're on the case. LOL. And then what's even funnier is Luke then goes on to prove it was a bad decision because he can NOT keep his head on straight when it's someone he cares about HAHAH. BUT we get so much growth from our boy Luke because he recognizes he's stepping over boundaries and losing it and he asks JJ to take his place and help him. And poor Tyler gets yelled at by Luke in the meantime lmfao. But it must be said Luke WAS RIGHT and Tom didn't kill himself!

I've seen people criticizing the characters that they're making Voit a profiler or deferring to his advice but I don't see it that way at all? These scenes to me play out as that Voit is an extremely valuable resource, an insight into a serial killer's train of thought and motivations and exactly how it pertains to this other wannabe serial killer who is specifically idolizing HIM. They are utilizing Voit like they would any other resource - previous research, reading interviews with other killers, etc. They're not going to him like "oh voit we're so dumb what do we do next," they're just using him to fill in blanks as to where this copycat's mind is at. IDkkkkk that's just how I feel about it. I really like these scenes
these flashbacks with Tom and Luke are so interesting. since the conversation is revolving around how much he loves his wife and how he doesn't know what he'd do without her, and then we cut to Luke looking thoughtful 👀👀👀 ok yes I'm making this about Garvez. Fight me
lovely little scene between JJ and Luke. I love that Luke doesn't want to burden JJ or imply his grief is on "her level" and she's like bish please grief is grief and we're all here for each other. Also, I said this about the whole JJ/Luke paranoia sweeping the Garvez nation back on May 29th:

Tom was suuuch a hardass and we know that Tom trained Tyler previously in the military just kidding it was the FBI, and Tyler joked about how Tom kicked his ass and he just "survived" the training just gives me juicy backstory for Tyler. We already saw how committed and intense Tyler was during his time in the military and the fact that he flourished under Tom's particular brand of training just goes to prove Tyler's mettle.

Penelope back in her lair 😒 my one criticism of this episode I think and my one general criticism of how this season is trending. Sigh. FREE HER!!!!!!!! But at least we got our Garvez hallway scene.
I LOVED this live podcast interview and goading the killer into calling into the show and the whole interaction. It's giving that time that the alleged Zodiac killer called into the AM San Francisco tv show to speak to the host and Melvin Belli, a famous lawyer and crime writer. It wasn't actually the Zodiac killer but, that's 10000% the vibe they're going for. This season is written for me specifically, a giant true crime nerd..
Another banger episode in the can 👍 this season is so gooooooooooood.
