Hello! I saw your morgana gifset and I was wondering how you made that glitch effect on the first and last one gifs? Could you tell me? :)
Sure! I’ll do my best to explain it though I’m really bad at that so bear with me XD
Just to clarify, when I say frame I’m talking about the images in my animation panel, and when I say layer, I’m talking about the images in my layer panel.
So first, I decided what frame it is I want to have the glitch. For example, I’ll use this frame:
In my animation panel, I duplicate this frame. The duplicated frame is the one we’re going to edit. Make sure you have that selected, and then duplicate the layer that corresponds to that frame in your layer panel. Sorry if that’s super confusing, hopefully a visual helps:
So now we take that duplicated layer on top, and double click the layer so this box shows up:
In the advanced blending section where it says channels, uncheck the “R” box and then press ok.
Now you shift the layer image into a new position, wherever you think looks best, and it should look something like this after you move it:
As you can see I’ve shifted the top layer slightly up and to the left, with the original layer showing underneath:
You can stop there if you want, but I did this process again in another new frame, this time moving it slightly down and to the right:
And that’s basically it! You can also shift shapes instead of the whole duplicated image if you want a more glitch like effect. what you would do is use the square selection tool to make different sized rectangle selections (hold down shift to make several at once, you can do as many or as few as you want). then you’d press ctrl+T to transform and shift over just those rectangular selections. Ex:
And all together it should hopefully turn out something like this:
Also, a quick note, in this circumstance I had to turn off my black & white filter on just the glitch frames so the blue and red disturbances would show through.
(EDIT: For those of you having trouble with that duplicated layer covering the rest of your frames, The solution is to go to your first frame in the animation panel and have that selected, and then in your layer panel, turn off the layer you had duplicated that’s showing on every frame. It should turn it off for all of them and show the frames normal again. Then select the frame you have the glitch on and turn the layer back on. It should show normally now for just that part.)
