Honestly. Can we talk about how it starts with Nikki wanting to go home after the bar and all of her friends arguing that that’s lame, we want to have fun, come on, while she repeatedly tells them she doesn’t feel good and needs a ride. In a movie about taking away a woman’s autonomy I think it’s interesting that the first thing the friend group does is to ignore her no.

A scene that isn’t in the movie, but I still feel like isn’t appreciated enough is when Rocky and Ryland are doing the whole ‘first contact’ thing and Ryland finally puts some lights in the tunnel so he could see. When he had left the tunnel so Rocky could come out, Rocky ends up investigating the lights then just takes them back to his ship. And Ryland is watching this happen like “well fuck. Now I can’t see shit.”

Idk I felt it was hilarious and I’m sad they didn’t have it play out like that in the movie

there's this ridiculously soulmatey line in the phm book when grace is just kinda idly wondering aloud about why human and eridian technology are at such similar phases of development, and without thinking about it much rocky responds "has to be, or you and I would not meet." which he goes on to explain as (paraphrasing here) "if either planet were less advanced then we couldn't have built interstellar ships, but if either were more advanced then we could have dealt with the astrophage problem from home, so we'd have to be at around the same level to both be here, that's the only way it would make sense." what it sounds like though is "oh, that's easy: the two of us had to meet so the history of both of our entire species lined up in preparation to make it possible." what kind of tau-ceti-crossed red-petrova-line-of-fate nonsense is this.

In Project Hail Mary (the book) there’s a bit where Stratt is being sued for pirating literally everything ever

And I’ve seen lots of posts about how she pulls out the “I can do what I want” paper, but I wanted to highlight some other things about the scene that I found absolutely hilarious:

She’s actively working on something else on her tablet as the trial is beginning.

She doesn’t have a lawyer or anything. It’s just her alone at the defense table

She immediately and continuously requests to end the trial so she can leave (and interrupts both the Plaintiff and the Judge to do so)

After being denied a few times, she just gets up and leaves anyway. When they try to stop her she’s just like “I literally have the entire US army under my command, you have no way to make me stay here.”

Grace isn’t even IN this scene. Every other “past” scene so far has been Grace remembering something from his own life, but I think they threw this one in as a Just For Stratt Special™️
