my gordon/player designs! he feels like a permanently sunburnt type of guy

design ramble below

HL1VRAI:

this suit is so difficult. i understand the struggle now. i wanted to keep it as close to canon as possible, but i might make more changes to make it easier for myself to draw. i also made the suit more practical by adding gaps in the armor so that he can actually move his joints. its very simplified. i was also inspired by other hlvrai artists to draw the lambda symbol with an I beside it to resemble HLVRAI. I was also inspired, mostly by the HLVRAI thumbnails, with the vr headseat. the top part can still move like eyebrows!

PLAYER (HL1VRAI ERA):

i tried to find as many references as i could to players physical appearance, and he often describes himself as "a big guy" so i made him a beautiful fat man. i didnt want to make him too similar to wayne either, so i gave him very curly hair and a thick goatee (and freckles but i made them too subtle). hes in his late twenties but already has gray hairs because the science team is STRESSING him out. also glasses because WHY NOT!! the shirt is from a post by @/redtsundere-pngs because i have a feeling player would wear some dumb shit like that. sweatpants for coziness (doesnt help). mismatched socks because he can NEVER find matching ones. i hc that players apartment is sucha mess i think hes not doing great.

HL2VRAI:

cut off his curls sorry. blame tommy. also got more gray hairs because players life is not going well. I dont think bubby really cares about a fresh coat of paint so its slowly been losing its vibrance. its also plastered with fruit stickers because i feel like when bubby ate fruits he stuck them on there to just. put them somewhere. for the symbol i was heavily inspired by @/astroadonis with her gordon design where his symbol is two cherries making an A. i wanted to do something similar but not copy so i drew different fruits, pear and bananas, to make an AII (the II making a roman 2). why these fruits? pear is somewhat A shaped and. bananas are longg.

ill get to drawing hl2vrai era player at some point but just know: hes doing so much worse. why else do you think he opened the game again?
