Hey there!

This is an ask blog for my AU where Amy accidentally joins Sonic and Shadow's punk band. There's already a fic for it on AO3, so this is kind of a spinoff of it that I made just for fun. On web, click the blog's URL to see the full theme! I'm still working on it, but there's a lot of information there already.

General info:

⭐ Asks from other RP blogs are fine!

⭐ No anon magic because this is meant to line up (somewhat) closely with what's going on in the fic lol.

⭐ The story begins in December of 2002.

⭐ Amy is 16, and Sonic and Shadow are both 17.

⭐ Sonamy is the main ship! There will be ships involving other characters in the background, but they're not the main focus.

i’d love to know how you guys manage to balance band practice and highschool… after you graduate, do you plan on going to college? like, get music careers or any other degrees in mind? also, your new drummer is adorable and she’s AWESOME!!! your last show was amazing so congrats! <3

🎸 Well, Sonic? How DO you balance the band and school?

🎤 Yeah, yeah, I know where he's going with this. I do it poorly. I do homework before shows, I study during breaks in practices, and I honestly don't know how I have the grades I do.

🎸 As for me, I am part of the student government, the marching band, the concert band, and several other organizations, as well as a number of college classes. So, I simply do not sleep.

🎤 That's barely an exaggeration. It's horrible. He stays up late way more than he should. Maria has to yell at him to sleep all the time.

🥁 I don't really know yet... I haven't been in the band long enough haha.

🎸 I am definitely going to college. I'm getting my undergraduate degree, then I'm going to med school.

🥁 I'm going to college, too! I'm not totally sure what I wanna study yet, but I think archaeology or history would be cool. :3

🎸 Sonic?

🎤 Um... I guess I don't really know yet. I probably should, I only have like a year and a half of high school left... Well, my sister wants to get her cosmetology license, and my brother's going to votech, so my parents told me I can go to a four-year if I want... I'm just not sure yet.

🎤 Anyway, yeah! Amy rocks!! She's the best drummer ever.

🎸 Absolutely. Stand aside, every other drummer, because Amy is better than all of you.

🎤 I am so out of song lyrics. We're trying to write something new for our next show, and every cool thought I've ever had for a lyric is just GONE. I told Shadow and Amy I'd have something good by the time we meet up for practice after school tomorrow. I have absolutely nothing. Not even a title. How do you fix writer's block? Or is it lyricist's block...

This is what I meant in the last post when I said that I had redesigned band AU Amy a little... yeah, "a little" might've been an understatement.

I've been trying a lot of new stuff with my Sonic art style, and I think I'm finally finding something I really like. I also put a lot more detail into this than I usually do, like clothing and fur textures, which I think I like the look of.

Anyway! Sonic's design is also done, and I'm planning to post it soon.

Hey, that's not Fall Out Boy! I want my money back! (Or, The Obligatory Redraw of Take This to Your Grave.) This album has so heavily influenced the fic that I think the image of these four on a broken futon conveys the overall vibe of it better than words can.

Finished some older art... and promptly forgot to post it lol. Anyway, to say I like Procreate's new brushes would be a massive understatement. The comic brush set rocks. I've also been trying out different art styles for Sonic characters, and I think I ended up with almost exactly my Animaniacs art style, so there's that. Full disclosure, I decided I wasn't going to bother redrawing the background of the album cover, so that's why it's conspicuously absent. Also, I've changed Amy's design slightly since I did this, so I'll have to post that later, too.

what does a typical setlist look like? & does it change a lot or do you tend to have ones you play every time? :P

🎤 Right now, we're doing a lot of covers because we kinda haven't written that many originals yet-

🎸 We're also making some changes to our style, so we've cut a few of our originals from our setlists because they don't fit. And because they're terrible.

🎤 Dude, they're so bad.

🥁 We do tend to play the same few originals every time, but we switch out most of the covers. Those are the songs that we're listening to a lot and that we can learn in time for a show.

🎤 Except our cover of "The Middle", that's kinda become a staple of our setlist.

which artists are your style inspirations when you play? as in, playing style for guitar or whatever, but also composition/lyric-wise! :)

🎤 Okay, Amy definitely needs to go first. She listens to a crazy amount of stuff, and I think some of it is just for the drums.

🥁Hey, I really do like everything I listen to! But yes, I do kinda listen for a good drummer more than anything else. Some influences on my drumming are Rush, Van Halen, a few of the drummers who have worked with Billy Joel, and Green Day! Just to name a few haha. I do some vocals, too, and the Cranberries are a really big inspiration of mine. The singer's voice is just so... ethereal! I hope I can sound that good someday!

🎤 Hey, Green Day for me, too! My guitarwork is really inspired by them, the Offspring, the Clash, blink-182... well, you get the idea. It's not usually anything fancy, just four-chord punk, but I admit I've been throwing some guitar solos and more Boston-esque stuff into some of our newer songs. Shadow?

🎸 Duran Duran is undoubtedly my biggest influence when it comes to writing bass parts. Their album Rio, especially its title track, singlehandedly convinced me to try something more complex with the bass when Sonic is playing simpler chords. Thursday is another band I really like. Their music gave Sonic and me the idea to have me do unclean vocals in some of our songs to begin with.

🎤 Speaking of vocals, lead vocals and lyrics are mostly me, and I think I write stuff that's like a weird mix of Reel Big Fish, Sum 41, Brand New, and Bowling For Soup. And like Shadow said, Thursday. In terms of vocals, some of the kids at the last show we played accused me of ripping off the guy from Jimmy Eat World, so I know I don't sound half bad.

🥁 Aww, you always sound great. Besides, all three of us love Jimmy Eat World right now, so really, we're ripping them off together, as a band.

Hey guys! How did you get your band name?

🥁 Ooh, good question! I actually don't know, because that was already the name of the band when I joined. I'll pass this over to the guys.

🎸 Sonic came up with the name.

🎤 Kinda. My brother Manic and I were talking about a local band we love (the Chaotix, they rule) and how a lot of bands we know are really famous locally, but if ya asked someone in the next town over about them, they'd never know who you were talking about. We're stars, but only in the underground scene. So, Stars Underground.
