"Huh?"
Asra had to peek out from the tower of crates filled with various bottles and jars to be able to see the person talking to him. "Oh don't worry, I do this everyday, wouldn't want to detour you from your routine." He smiles at the redhaired woman even though his arms could give out at any moment right now, they definitely did NOT do this every day.
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
"Oh no need, my treat!" Asra laughs softly at the notion of them ditching her " I would never! You are lovely company, very rare here. I won't be long."
He smiled and went up to the bar, they are seen talking to the worker and then pulling from their bag various items like precious rocks and encrusted shells. The man behind the counter is visibly confused by the payment but just shrugs and takes the items. He gives Asra a pint of beer, a tall glass of a colorful, icy drink and a paper with a number.
He comes back to the table and sets the pint in front of Portia "Here you go~" He smirks and sits down, taking a sip of his own drink.
Portia looks relieved to not have to worry about ordering anything herself, taking the mug in her hand and taking a few hearty gulps.
The froth from the beer sits on her upper lip as she exhales, setting the mug back on the table. "Ah, man. I haven't had a beer in ages. Especially not a cold one." She glances at the paper on the table but pays it no mind, not able to figure out what was written on it. She looked around the place again, taking in the different faces in the crowd. Looked like a very steadily busy place.
"So what brought you to Vesuvia? You said you were working in that magician's shop?..." She held the cold mug in both her hands, finding comfort compared to the heat outside.
Asra looks at her foam-moustache and lets out a giggle, handing her a napkin. He fidgets with the cup's rim while he looks at the bubbles rise to the top. They look up when Portia speaks up.
"Oh well, I've always lived here. I always have done some magic tricks here and there to earn something to eat but never had anything steady. Until I happened to set up my reading table in the back of that shop." They take a sip of their drink and continue. " They didn't really like me stealing clients, but after I pitched them a fortune reading job in exchange of food they let me work there."He smirks and rests their chin on their hand.
She takes the napkin and wipes her face, and sets her mug back down to listen. "Oh! I suppose I absolutely found the right person struggling with boxes to help, then. I've struck gold with a local!" She folded her hands on the table.
"I'll hopefully be starting work in the palace soon, but before then, I'd love to see all the cool parts of this city that I can see in my down time." She regarded the individual across from her fondly. "I'll have to visit for a reading sometime once I've got the coin to pay you proper, and as well treat you to a meal as well!"
Shenwouldn't accept no for an answer on that last part, at least.
Asra laughs softly, covering his mouth partially. His eyes crinkle as he smiles at her "And I am very lucky to have found a new person to enjoy the city with! My only friend doesn't really enjoy being in the city so it can get kind of lonely."
He straightens his back and crosses his arms on the table leaning slightly forward. " I'm glad you are willing to spend your free time with little ol'me." Asra smirks and perks up at the last comment. They pull out their deck and starts shuffling it with grace " We could do one before the show starts, if you don't mind the public setting."
She's picking up her mug to take another drink when they pull out their cards, and she's instantly drawn in. She sets the metal cup aside and lays her hands flat on the table, eyes starry and focused.
"I've never had a tarrot reading before... the grandmothers back in Nevivon sometimes did tea reading, but they all thought it was good fun more than anything. So you are a real magician then...!" She rests her chin in her hands, looking to Asra with splendor in her blue eyes.
"I don't mind at all!!! How do we begin?"

Portia stood in his way, peeking back at him around the stack of boxes in his arms, tutting. "Good thing for you, I’ve just finished for the afternoon! Come now." She was stronger than she looked by far, and wiggled her fingers underneath the heavy upper box, shifting it over onto her shoulder almost effortlessly. "No harm done! Easy peasy. Where are we taking these?" She winked slyly.
They adjusted the boxes in their arms and smiled sheepishly "Thank you.. Do you know that magic shop near the docks? If you don't just follow me." He smiles and starts walking. " Sorry I didn't introduce myself there, I'm Asra, just got hired at that shop and well, I wanted to make a good impression on my first day."
"What about you? Where do you work at? I haven't seen you around." they ask with curiosity, he'd remember someone as cheery as her if she worked around the market.
She smiled cheerily as she followed along, her curly red hair bouncing with each step. "Nice to meet you, Asra. I'm Pa-... Portia. I just arrived here in the city a few weeks ago. I work at the palace." She shifted the crate on her shoulder, still just as easily hefting it along. "Ohhhh, are you a magician? I've never seen real magic done before."
She smiled brightly, taking in the sights of the town while she traveled behind him. "I haven't actually spent a lot of time here in the market proper..."
"That's a very nice name! How is working at the palace? I hear great things about Countess Nadia but Lucio.... Well I think we all know." He chuckles and starts heading to the inner streets of the city. "Yeah! Both my parents were magicians so I've kind of always been using it and practicing."
He stops in front of the shop and while supporting the two crates he was carrying with one hand and his knee, they unward the door and open it "We can leave it here near the entrance, and if you haven't seen the market you should! There are a lot of things to see and interesting people to meet. Some might even give you a discount if you are polite." They feel Faust poke out of their scarf and look at Portia curiously. "Oh, this is Faust! She like to hang out close to me."
Portia shifts the crate off her shoulder and sets it down easy, stretching her shoulder out after carrying the box. "The Countess is a very kind woman. The Count is... eccentric." She turns around, taking in the sights and the sounds, and the smells. "It's quite a hustle and bustle.
She puts her hands on her hips, grinning wide. "Know anywhere to get a bite to eat around here?"
They set down the boxes and stretch their arms."Yup, let's say Count Lucio isn't a favorite amongst the working people around here, always picking someone to fight in the coliseum or manipulating them into making him something." They roll their eyes in frustration at the mere thought of everything he has done.
He notices his hunger and smiles at the mention of food. "Hm... I know a place that sells some really good roasted meats and vegetables, it's not that far if you want to go. I hear they also have a nice afternoon performance."
"A performance you say... what kind of performance?" Her interest is certainly piqued, especially at the idea of roasted meat and vegetables. "That certainly sounds like a fun time! I'm in." She hooked her arm into Asra's with a wink. "Well! Lead the way!"
He blinked in surprise when she hooked her arm around his, a bit flustered by the gesture, but quickly regained his composture and put on their signature smirk. "Oh well, I'm actually not sure. Worth giving it a shot though, may be interesting." They walk outside and ward the door once more.
"So, what made you move to Vesuvia?" He asked while they walked the streets "It is a very beautiful and big city, but there are a lot of criminals roaming around."
Portia had always been fairly on the hyper-friendly side, she took no issue with taking a stranger by the arm and following them strange places. "I'm here with my brother, actually. He's training to become a doctor. Has the royal physician training him here." She looked around as Asra led the two of them through the city. "He said he's going to try to get me a job at the palace." She marvelled at the sights of the wares around them, not bothering to stop at any but making notes of where to come back later.
"Criminals, huh? Nothing to worry about for me, honestly. I've had my fair share of tuffles. I'll manage." She may look tiny, but she could pack a punch. As evident by the heavy crate she carried with ease earlier.
" Your brother you say? I'm glad you have someone to rely on at home. You guys should come by the shop someday and we can organize a trip to the market. There are a lot of really nice sights." They suggested with a smirk, he always enjoyed walking around the city even if he has seen it a thousand times, alone or with friends.
"I am honestly positive you could beat me in a fight with ease, it's just that the insecurity is one reason why people don't usually move here, that and the poor city management." They finally arrive at the establishment, seemingly small from the front, colorful lights ornate the entrance. They illuminate the engraved wooden sign which reads Roastorzo's. They hold the door open for Portia "After you."
"This place does seem a bit rough around the edges... but I'm sure we'll be okay. I'm sure my brother wouldn't mind some local guidance though!" She peered up at the tall wooden door, ornately lit, and stepped inside as Asra held the door open for her.
"How kind of you~" she gave a small bow and then stepped inside, placing a hand back on the heavy door to allow her companion to step inside after her. Inside it was dimly lit, but visible, and she quickly found a table to hop up into a chair. "There's a stage over there, is that where the shows are?" She looked absolutely giddy.
"Thank you madam~" Asra bows gracefully with a smirk on his face and follows Portia inside. They followed her to the table she had found and sat on the chair opposite to her "Well I suppose they would host shows in a stage." he remarked in a teasing manner. They had only just met but Asra really enjoyed joking around with people, especially in a teasing matter.
"I do wonder what they will be performing tonight, Vesuvia does have a lot of aspiring artists and actors." He said and picked up a menu that was already on the table when they arrived. "We should order something though, so we can enjoy the show and not be hungry."
Portia picked up the menu and pressed her lips together tightly, darting her eyes around the page and then nervously glancing up towards Asra. She had not a single idea what she was looking at, vut she wasn't sure if that was something she was ready to disclose just yet. She brushed a stray curl behind her ear and set the menu down. She'd probably just have to piggyback off of whatever they ordered.
"So, erm, you've never been here before? What do you think you're getting? I'd for sure like a few pints of whatever beer they've got." She twiddled her thumbs nervously. Hopefully it wouldn't come up. It would be extremely embarrassing to bring up the fact she couldn't read while trying to order off a menu. "I've simply no idea, it looks like there's so many options..."
Asra hums amusingly while scanning the menu, resting his cheek on his hand while made a decision. "There are quite a lot of options, we could just order the vegetable platter and some seasoned grilled fish?" He suggested, noticing her distress but not making any comment on it.
"Let me go to the bar and order us some drinks and food, hopefully you don't ditch on me while I'm gone." He said and smirked at her, getting up from his chair.
Portia relaxed visibly, resting her elbows on the table and crossing them in front of her. She laughed at the notion of ditching.
"And why would I let you lead me all the way here to where it's not familiar for me only to leave without notice? I should be more concerned about *you* ditching me! Besides, should I be thanking you." She giggled, her feet swaying from the tall chair she sat on. She set a coin pouch on the table and pushed it towards them.
"Bring a pitcher~" she teased. "And the fish sounds lovely."

"Let me help with that." - @starsandsweetpeas
