house troubles
Having some struggles with my kitchen sink and garbage disposal now. After some physical labor I sort of cleared the issue with the kitchen sink, or it's draining a little less terribly than before. But I could not fix the garbage disposal, even after clearing the clog, it keeps tripping the circuit to half the kitchen, and I'm preeeeetty sure that's dangerous and not something one should try to fix on their own.
I worked some overtime already this month, but I guess this is a sign to try to sell more things online and also clean my house to prepare for a plumber and/or electrician. I already had to pay people to redo my garden and trim my tree last month, now this happens!

Now that I'm locked out of bluesky due to age verification, can't post on instagram that much because of their focus on AI use that you have to opt out of, already left Facebook years ago, boycotting twitter because Musk, don't even know if I still have my Livejournal account... this is the last blue social media site left to post my alibis for when I show up in court.
This weekend I went to a new pop up market series at a different site, a claw machine store, but there weren't many claw machines, just 2 short rows, and the space was rather small, so it filled up quickly. The artists (and cake) seller line up for the Apothecary Diaries event were on the less established side, too. While I wouldn't mind applying to sell and have a decent non-zero chance of getting accepted (assuming it's not a friends-first process), I don't think I would make much money and it would get claustrophobic. Idk, I'm lazy and too introverted, it has to be a win-win-win situation for me to consider, and I don't know if events like that exist in my area anymore. Sure, there are probably more opportunities to get into a market because everyone wants to run an event and collect that sweet money/fame before the economy completely collapses or World War III starts, but also there are more applicants and competition from other markets. It's tough, maybe not meant for me. I'll keep an open mind though.
Also this weekend...
I have been trying to read novels, or lots of words without pictures more, so I can think critically and not contribute to America's literacy crisis. The book club this year has been helping, plus the huge stack of unread novels listed in my bullet journal, but I need outside motivation and hard deadlines, I no longer have the self-discipline to maintain healthy habits. I guess I only have self-discipline for cooking and exercise (well, 1 form of exercise).
I also have a watch club, technically 2 watch clubs this weekend. That's been fun, I feel like I am a little bit more of a cinephile than I was before. But again, someone else has to schedule it for me. No inner drive to improve myself on my own lmao.
In my defense.... I feel anxious when I'm reading or watching or exercising because I want to draw or work on my costumes or write my fic. On the other hand, I can only be a better artist or crafter or writer if I consume a variety of media and literature. It's difficult to manage both aspects of being a well-rounded and thoughtful person when you have a full time job that requires every brain cell you have (and the occasional commute to the office 3 cities away). But... I think the alternative of doom-scrolling is worse, so I will try to do my best!
Regarding last reblog - My workplace switched to 2fa/authenticator last year to log in the network and I was totally fine with that, we work from home, lots of sensitive info. But a few months ago, we switched to 2fa/authenticator apps for 3 more programs/websites, which log us out after 5 minutes of no activity, and it's driving me insane having to log into multiple programs multiple times a day.
I asked my supervisor what happens when I don't get a signal to get the authenticator or texts to log in because when I commute, sometimes I don't get a mobile data signal at work, at the very building where all of the servers are located, (I can't use the work wifi because it's for guests and not secure) and he was like... I don't know.
What happens when my phone dies? I can't work? *throws new phone at the wall*
Absolutely fucked. No foresight or disaster mitigation whatsoever. I'm glad I never bought into the "technology is king" philosophy as a youth although I did my best to stay on top of things as a student. I was a stubborn old Amish man ever since I was nine years old.

Anyway, for talking shit about other people, my bluesky account was hit with the age verification requirement due to my living in a conservative area and we must obey the fascist dictators ahead of time or whatever, so I can't log in. I guess I could find a way around it somehow, but no one talks to me on bluesky so it's not worth the effort.
For future reference, once all social media sites require age verification because we live in hell, I will not be giving that info away for free like that. I will not be on social media if that happens. You can email or text me or send me a letter by passenger pigeon if you must. Contact me on ebay, I've been a user since 2001, that account is 25 years old, they can't possibly ask me for age verification... can they?

saying no to community
Probably because of my friends' insta algorithm, but I see posts nowadays about rejecting community-building from women around the world (not-white). To be honest I don't know if it's fake or ragebait or just public complaining on social media, but many of these women, from south Asia, East Asia, the middle East, Africa, south America, say they will not commit to building community. They state they are already being abused and terrorized and taken advantage of at home by their own families, plus they can't go out even if they want to, can't get a higher education or independent income to help much even if they can go out, and have fears of being assaulted or scammed, etc once they are out of the house with their hard-earned education and money, so they are not inviting even more people, strangers this time instead of family, to continue the beatdown.
In short, they will help the community once they see the men (aka their abusers) build community first. And because of their culture or religion or government or whatever, that will not happen anytime soon, therefore they are not going to sacrifice their energy ahead of time.
What will it take for you to choose to help your community or not help your community?
For me, it was the pandemic that made me think mayhaps this world community doesn't need, want, nor deserve my contributions.
But I would change mind... if my nephew wants me to. That's it. No one else will change my mind. Not even... Mr Rogers. Or... Captain Planet. Or... Optimus Prime.
