poems about galaxies <3
It's getting to the time where I will be self-publishing my next book, Stars Melt to Milk. I'm feeling a little stuck with the whole process.
This is how I’m feeling right now about Stars Melt to Milk. But it’s going to change. Time to get on top of things!
In the two years I spent writing this book, so much changed. I learned and grew. With that, my novel changed. This might be one of the biggest reasons I’ve gone through so many revisions. Each draft is a representation of the person I was at the time that I wrote it. And with the pace that people grow up during their late teens and early twenties, each draft is drastically different. It’s hard for me to come to a place where I decide, “This is exactly what I want to say.” Because each day I learn something that I didn’t understand before. And then I want to go back and adjust my novel to reflect my world view. After I publish this book, I might come back a year later and think, “Wow, was I naive?”When I first started writing Stars Melt to Milk, I was nineteen-years-old. Between then and now, I've become an entirely different person.

"I've spent so much time trying to get away from that life in New York. That city had my mother standing on every street corner. I swear it didn't matter if I knew my mom was across town, I'd see her and her vacant face everywhere."
- Brittany Touris, Stars Melt to Milk
Janis thinks about her past in New York City.
"I missed him, but he can't know that."
- Brittany Touris, Stars Melt to Milk
"But out here, it feels like nothing moves, only the voices of the coyotes at night. Our fields are overgrown now, but I feel like my dad's still here."
- Brittany Touris, Stars Melt to Milk
Charlie thinks about his dad.
"My car stands its ground in the driveway, gathering white Dogwood blossoms on its roof from the neighbor's tree. Sephie runs to the car and leans her side up against it. The blue of the car matches the blue in her excited eyes."
- Brittany Touris, Stars Melt to Milk
Charlie and his car.
"But the tighter I held her, the further I felt from her. And sometimes I'd cry with her too. She thought I was lamenting the pain of the world, like she was. But, really, I was yearning for a mother who'd want to be with me more times than only in her weakest hours of the night."
- Brittany Touris, Stars Melt to Milk
Janis thinks back on her past.
"'Janis, my baby. Things have been lonely here in New York without you, but I know you're doing exactly what you're meant to do.'"
- Brittany Touris, Stars Melt to Milk
Janis receives a long-awaited message.

"Janis and I sit on the hill at the edge of my backyard. We look off into my kingdom. Her gaze is far off. She needs me, but I don't know how to help."

Janis and Charlie first start hitting relationship troubles.
