what my dog does: is laying quietly on his bed. raises his head to see where I’m going when I get out of the sofa. becomes uninterested when he realizes I’m just going to the bathroom. lays his head back down in the exact same position it was before.
what I see: oh my god I didn’t pet him when I was walking across the room and now he’s sad. he’s so sad. he lifted his head to be petted and he is now so disappointed. I’m such an awful human being. all he wanted was to be petted and now I’ve let him down. does he know how much I love him?

You gotta just. Unfollow blogs that upset you. If you are so angry at a total stranger that you send them multiple anonymous messages, that is not normal. That is not healthy behavior.
aaand you can do it in other social media with people you know irl too! there was this friend in high school that really upset me and we parted ways right before graduation. but I kept following them because I wanted to know what they were up to. and for TWO YEARS, every time they posted something, I would remember that they had upset me. so one day I just unfollowed them, and I felt incredibly at peace.
ok something I’ve recently noticed is how the word “gossip” is interpreted differently between generations, at least in my language and country
personally I always saw “gossip” as speaking about people you know and aren’t present, or maybe someone you are not close to, about something interesting that has happened to them. “hey did you know Kaeightling and Jhohnh broke up?” sometimes it may even be about people you don’t know, because it’s a good story. “my friend caught their boss cheating with a coworker”. yeah it involves spreading some info but it can be harmless.
but three times already I’ve casually talked with older family members and said they were gossiping, just for them to get weirdly defensive, and say that no, they were not gossiping, just making conversation. I would say, “well you are speaking about Bobert, and they aren’t here”, and they would answer, “that’s not what gossip is”, with no further details. it was this third time that made me finally realize that for them, gossiping is “talking about others with will intent”. so I wonder when that changed.
If you had shown me this site in 2005 I would have asked you if had checked your virus software lately, because this looks like a bad one. I would have clicked away so fast it would give you whiplash. Looking at these sites now, I have to convince myself that they aren't virus laden sites and fight against the pavlovian urge to just navigate away.
I navigate away anyways because fuck them, there's usually a better site (though they are dwindling quickly). I still can't get over how the internet "as intended" today looks like a malware ridden fever dream from 20 years ago. This is every story I've ever read about an empire that used to be great and has now fallen into turmoil.
