Do our genes determine who we are? Are the people in the mirror universe reflections of who we could become? Most importantly, why did the mirror Julian Bashir show up in the doctor's quarters with a phaser?

When his double from the Mirror Universe shows up on DS9, Julian is forced to confront his greatest secret in this smart and compelling fic from @sapphosewrites:

Garak was taking a risk, he knew, by escalating. It would have been perilous in the extreme on Cardassia. But he was not on Cardassia; he was living among Bajorans and Federation species, and they seemed to favor bold strokes.

He purposefully did not give the doctor the book at lunch. The plan might have been easily thwarted, had Julian noticed, but the doctor was distracted in his rush to get to the infirmary before the start of his shift. He seemed to leave lunch later and later every week, which Garak took as a personal compliment.

His shift ended at 1700, so Garak waited until 1830, then slipped the datarod into his pocket and quietly made his way through the habitat ring. It was a suitably arbitrary 1833 when he made his presence known at the doctor’s door.

When Michael Burnham took command of the ISS Shenzhou, she turned out to be exactly what Detmer was looking for. But Detmer knows now she can still find her way without her.

Mirror Detmer is fervently loyal to her captain, even after Burnham’s rumored death, in this fantastic fic from @kira-katrine:

In a way, it would not have been unexpected had Detmer killed Burnham herself.

She’d killed plenty before. Not on a path to the captain’s chair--to the Shenzhou’s helm, and to keep herself there. There, she knew she could make herself indispensable. She’d known it ever since she was a child, when she’d stolen an old shuttle of her mother's and taken it for a spin.

The captains gave the orders, but it was she who carved the way forward, through whatever lay in their path. It was she who flew the ships that struck terror into the hearts of those who saw them overhead, the ones whose presence sent a message. The Terran Empire had arrived. Though Detmer had started to wonder if their message had grown weaker in recent years--thoughts she'd hardly dared to let herself think, let alone voice.

And then, Michael Burnham had taken command.

It is the 589th day of my rule, I am still onboard the ISS.Revanche the battleship acting as my flagship during the current imperial tour of my domain.

Today we were according to schedule supposed to be arriving at Andoria but a brief glimpse outside my window and a summary view of the navigational and sensor logs show we are in orbit over Arrakis IX a truly minor planet in my vast dominion.

Despite it being against my usual customs to conduct business before my morning coffee I have summoned captain Ransom to give him the occasion to explain himself.

My seneschal, the lovely lady Mariner will also be arriving soon with said coffee, it is my sincerest hope that it’s her beautiful face that I see first in this morning.

Emperor Georgiou is diligent in her studies as she prepares to play the role of Captain Georgiou. But who ever said a study session couldn't be fun?

Mirror Georgiou tries to understand her prime counterpart enough to impersonate her--and has some fun along the way--in this super hot character study from pauraque:

The Emperor sits in her quarters—so recently her prison cell—wearing the uniform and studying the service record of Captain Philippa Georgiou.

It's mostly dull reading, but she does her best to commit to memory the details of her double's stodgy, unambitious career. It's been a long time since she's been able to do any real espionage work, to get her own two hands dirty. Not that she's been presented with any challenge to her abilities. The padd they gave her isn't even encrypted, the files not redacted. She imagines the Michael of this universe informing her with calmly measured insolence that this is because the Federation has nothing to hide. She feels her lip curl in the beginnings of a sneer.

Gen Rhys picked a fight with Joann Owosekun not to get the attention of Emperor Georgiou, but someone else's.

Rhys grimaced in pain. Discovery's doctors were not known for their comfort and care. Everyone knew Emperor Georgiou would find out if any crew member showed weakness in their recovery. In sickbay, you got patched up enough so you wouldn't bleed on the bridge. His right eye was swollen shut, but he could hear footsteps coming toward his blind side. Rhys fumbled for his dagger just as hand stopped his wrist.

When Julian ends up in the mirrorverse, Gul Garak is a fascinating presence. It’s not like a quick fuck will have consequences, right?

Stuck in the Mirror Universe, and thinking Garak is no longer interested in him, Bashir finds himself drawn to Mirror Garak in this angsty (but ultimately surprisingly sweet) fic from @cemetrygatess:

Oh, how well that uniform suited Garak, Julian thought as he walked out of the airlock and back onto Deep Space Nine. Only moments later did it occur to him that this wasn’t his Garak, nor his DS9. Not that any Garak was really his. For the past year, when he hadn’t been trying to seduce Dax, he’d been sniffing after Garak, the latter endeavor proceeding much better than the former in his estimation.

It wasn’t fair! Garak had worked hard for his position in the Regent’s bed, and now he was being usurped by her.

Being Regent Worf’s favoured pet is working out better than Mirror Garak would have expected--that is, until the Intendant comes along. Read today’s Mirror Fest fic from @the-last-dillards:

Garak woke up peacefully. Depressingly so. No rough hands pushing him down onto his front or fingers poking at his slit before shoving in two cocks at once. Not even hull shuddering snores that made him cover his ears with pillows as he longed for sleep.

Nothing. Just the quiet dimness of the tiny quarters he’d been granted onboard the Klingon Regent’s ship.

For the past two years, his life had been nothing short of exquisite.

The loss of Terok Nor had seemed like a death sentence when it had come. Someone would need to be punished for the Intendant’s lack of foresight and lax handling of the Terrans, and since she had been captured by the rebels and he had been the only one to escape, Garak knew it would be him.

It was only through the most fortuitous combination of events—and, he liked to think, his own sheer cunning—that he’d not only survived the Regent’s wrath but had established himself in a better position than before.

An initiative to create more fan-content for the women and wlw ships of Star Trek: Discovery

The two-week long event will take place from the 18th of September to the 3rd of October, 2021.

During the fortnight, there will be daily prompts and challenges for fanfiction writers, fanartists and everyone else who wants to be involved!

The prompts will be posted at the end of this month, but we can already tell you now that there is going to be a 'Free Choice' day, so if you already want to start working on a contribution - happy creating!

The event is run by the Milippa discord, but it is open to fanworks of all female and nonbinary characters and queer women-centric relationships of Star Trek: Discovery.

“I’m scared, father is…” She whispered, and Saru covered her mouth with a leathery hand.

“Shh… He will endure.” He said softly, both for her and for his own sanity. His threat ganglia flared, muscles coiled to the point of pain, and every fiber of his being screamed for him to run, but there was nowhere to go. It was the night of culling, and the Ba’ul had come for what was theirs.

The emperor likes to tease Michael, telling her she can only come a certain way or not at all, making her ache all over and beg for it, making her vulnerable and showing her vulnerability in ways she would never, never do with anyone who isn’t her Emperor, her Philippa Georgiou.

Being edged by her Emperor is one thing, but being interrupted by official imperial duties is quite another, as Mirror Michael learns in this blistering-hot fic from @lilolilyr:

The emperor likes to tease Michael, telling her she can only come a certain way or not at all, making her ache all over and beg for it, making her vulnerable and showing her vulnerability in ways she would never, never, allow to happen with anyone who isn’t her Emperor, her Philippa Georgiou.

The last time Georgiou had pushed Captain Burnham against the door of the lift by her throat, stopped the cabin and told her to hump against her leg until she came close, over and over again – the last time this had happened, they had been interrupted, the lift suddenly moving again, Michael barely having time to put her clothes in order and a properly menacing expression onto her face before the doors opened and they had to step out. Philippa had just smirked at her, then sneered at whoever had been in front of the lift, Michael barely remembers, all she had cared for – still all she cares for, really – was getting Philippa into a private room again so she could get fucked by her properly.

Today’s Mirror Fest treat is this delectable morsel of a fic from our very own glorious emperor totally benevolent mod, @aliceinthinkland:

The first time Saru saw a dead Kelpien, he was still young, but his world had already ended.

“We got to her just in time,” said the cook. Saru was still working out the rules and hierarchies of Imperial Starbase One, but he understood that the cook’s ridged nose and lack of threat ganglia made her neither Terran nor Kelpien; not free, but not food, either. She nodded her head, jostling the earring she only wore when no Terrans were around, and looked at Saru. “Do you understand?”

Saru nodded. He tried and failed to look away from the clean line of red drawn across the dead woman’s neck. “She was about to undergo vahar’ai. She would have suffered, and eventually gone mad. You saved her from a lot of pain.”

The cook shrugged. “That too. But her ganglia would have gone off if she’d lived much longer.”
