Born between 24 and 22 BBY, Rotta was kidnapped by Asajj Ventress while on a cruise aboard the Khetanna. Ziro the Hutt, Rotta's uncle, had helped the Separatist Alliance snatch him in an attempt to start a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Hutt Clan so he could become the leader the clan.

Between 12 and 13ABY, Rotta had accrued a debt to Imperial warlord Janu Coin. Coin held Rotta captive on the planet Shakari and made him compete in gladiatorial combat in order to pay off the debt.
