I'm making an Anakin and Obi-Wan video and jesus I was watching the Mustafar fight and...
After Anakin falls when Obi-Wan cut his legs, Obi-Wan walked forward to try and help him.
It was an instinct move and you can just physically see Obi-Wan's heart breaking as he stops himself because he knows he can't help.

Can we talk about the fact that when obi wan was listing off the qualities Leia got from Anakin he listed the ones that were so commonly seen as problems to the Jedi. To them he was too outspoken, too reckless, and felt too deeply. But not to obi wan. He names the qualities that made padmé fall in love with Anakin in the first place and the qualities that always made him so proud. He sees Anakin as passionate because he loves deeply and hard, not because he was too attached. He calls him fearless because he was ready to do anything to help others, not because he was reckless. And he sees him as forthright because he stood for what he believed, always, not because he was outspoken or out of place. Obi wan doesn't see these qualities as flaws, but gifts and calls them that to Leia so she knows that they aren't to be ashamed of and that she should be as proud of those qualities as Anakin was, and I think that's so beautiful.

It could be a trick of the light but it sent chills down my spine because in that brief second it actually looks like Vader smiles. I don’t know whether that’s satisfaction at the pain it causes Obi-Wan or pride in his arrogant belief that no matter how many Jedi were left, he’s already destroyed the best of them.

EWAN MCGREGOR ON WHERE OBI-WAN IS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SERIES: “I certainly considered what it might be like to lose everything. I mean, his whole world has been destroyed. His Jedi Order has been destroyed and everything he fought for. Also the idea that you’re on the right side, the good side, and even still you’ve lost the battle, it must be very difficult to take.” Excuse me, I’m going to fling myself into the sun, that Obi-Wan is devastated by not just all that loss of the Jedi, his family, but also that they were doing the right thing and they still lost, that that kind of fundamental upending of a worldview, that the way the galaxy works, that sometimes it truly can be unfathomably cruel and the galaxy just lets it happen.
i’ve seen the fanart of the skywalker twin switch scenarios where leia was raised on tattooine and became a jedi and luke was a senator from alderaan leading the rebellion but can you imagine. for a second. leia “where is my blaster uncle obi wan yeah i know i’m ten i don’t give a fuck” skywalker raised by beru “oh the empire is coming? *pumps space shotgun* i wish a motherfucker would” lars. vader wouldn’t get a chance to tell her that he was her father because she would have shot him in the face the second she saw him.

I don’t know if it can be properly conveyed how much shit was thrown Hayden’s way when his prequel movies came out. Just a metric fuckton of crap. After AOTC (and only in his very early 20s) he was swiftly made the Star Wars pariah, and ROTS did little to assuage that. A lot of the dissatisfaction with the prequels somehow fell on him, both his turns as Anakin got Razzie “Awards”, his name became synonymous with bad, wooden acting.
Over the years the opinion of his performance shifted to Hayden being an unfortunate victim of George Lucas' writing and directing, saddled with lines no actor could make work. But even that opinion still largely discounted Hayden's acting ability.
For him to come back after 17 years to the role he got so much flack for, have his big scene show not even half of his face (and have that face caked in makeup and prosthetic), have his voice distorted, and still deliver the way he did? Still convey all the rage and evil and arrogance but also pain and sadness within Vader? Show everyone this is why he landed the role two decades ago, because he can be frightening and vulnerable and devastating even with just one eye and the corner of his mouth visible? Show everyone he is Anakin/Vader, and make everyone consider he was good all along? Incredible, amazing, the chosen one indeed. Thanks Deborah Chow and Ewan for making this show, thank you Hayden for coming back.
I keep going over and over the lines, “I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did.” and how they fit into Vader’s mindset, that this is the moment that Obi-Wan truly lets him go, but I don’t think Vader wanted that, he screams Obi-Wan’s name as he leaves, he wants to continue blindly focusing on only Obi-Wan until Sidious has to yank on his leash to get him to stop. And even then he can only hide it, not stop it. I keep thinking about the moments before those lines, Obi-Wan seeing his face, saying “Anakin.” and “Anakin’s gone. I am what remains.” and the devastation on Obi-Wan’s face to see him this way. I don’t think it’s just that Vader is rejecting Obi-Wan’s pity for him, he isn’t just saying, “Don’t you fucking feel sorry for me, the dark side is more powerful, I have become so much more than I would have been as a Jedi!” But instead I keep coming back to that Vader cannot let go of Obi-Wan, that he wants Obi-Wan to suffer, he wants Obi-Wan to be consumed by his hate for Vader, not his love. Vader cannot accept love because it would mean that he would have a way back to the light, he cannot do that because he cannot face what he’s done, and he will always know what he did if he accepts Obi-Wan’s love. But he cannot live without Obi-Wan’s love, either. So he has to try to twist it the only way he knows how, by burning it into hate, like his own love has been burnt into hate. The only way Vader can accept Obi-Wan, the only way Vader can not be in a one-sided relationship with Obi-Wan, is to have Obi-Wan join him in hating each other. “If you loved me, Obi-Wan, you would hate me as I hate you, because I loved you.” He can’t be Obi-Wan’s failed Padawan, the one Obi-Wan still loves, he has to be Obi-Wan’s nightmare, he has to be the victor over Obi-Wan’s faith in the light and Obi-Wan’s love, he has to be the one to tear down Obi-Wan’s love for him as he feels Obi-Wan tore his love down, on Mustafar when he refused to join Anakin or just walk away. He has to feel Obi-Wan betrayed him (tore down his love for Obi-Wan) on Mustafar, because otherwise Anakin has to face what he’s done. But all Obi-Wan gives him on that rocky moon is more love. So Vader tries to break it, tear it apart, say I’m not someone to love, I’m someone to hate. But Obi-Wan can’t, so it breaks the last hold Vader has on him, and Obi-Wan leaves, but that’s not what Vader wanted, he wanted Obi-Wan to join him in this suffering hatred, not leave him. So he screams Obi-Wan’s name as he leaves, because now he’s alone in the dark again, with this one-sided obsession with someone who he tried to break, but wound up broken by instead.
