maybe it was the drugs. maybe it was the manipulation. maybe it was the brainwashing. he didn’t know. he didn’t necessarily want to either.

at first glance, anyone would assume that they were a couple and ryan was the clingy one. he was always at pete’s feet, like a pathetic, kicked dog that came back no matter how many times he was hit. because that’s what he, at least, thought what love was.

that’s what pete made him believe. ryan didn’t like believing anything that didn’t come from pete’s mouth. so he stuck by it—letting pete hit him, take his anger out on him, rape him until he passed out, and other “heinous” acts he was also taught to believe was love.

Ryden and why I just can't like Ryan Ross...

I know I’ll end up getting shit for that reply on that “Ryden manifesto” link and whatnot, but I just want to add to what I said…

This is the conversation I just had with Kelsey, it’ll be easier to screencap than retype it all.

I was talking about this picture:

People make such a big ass deal about that picture because they think it’s proof or something that Ryden was real because Ryan loved Brendon so much he made a bracelet with his name on it and wore it around. He didn’t. It was a random thing he did once because a fan threw it on stage. He never wore it again, that we know of. He’s also making one of those “Yeah, I’m such a badass” faces, because it’s a joke. He’s a guy wearing a bracelet with another guy’s name on it. It’s not tough or badass at all, it’s a joke, hence the entire photo and his expression.

So then I mentioned I was reading that LJ manifesto thing and trying not to laugh… And this is where I say WHY I can never believe Ryden was a real thing and WHY I’ve never liked Ryan and never really will that much.

I know a lot of you have asked before why I don’t post about him much and don’t talk about him, or why I don’t like him, so here you go. This is the #1 reason right here…

So there ya go. To those who’ve asked and may ask in the future, that’s the #1 reason I don’t like and probably will never like Ryan Ross. It’s my opinion, so don’t attack me because I don’t like Ryan Ross. He was definitely a huge asshole back then. I don’t care what you say, you won’t change my opinion on that.

Also, there are some very clear points made about the realness of Ryden.

Seriously. If you go to that LJ “Ryden Manifesto” thing from 2010 and just scroll through looking at all the pictures she included, ALL of them show Brendon putting his hand on Ryan, or wrapping his arms around him for pictures of this or that, or doing suggestive things or what-have-you, but literally in only 1 or 2 of those pictures does Ryan do anything in return. There are actually quite a few where he ignores Brendon or looks scandalized or violated or just plain pissed off by Brendon touching him and trying to do gay things.

I have always believed and will continue to believe that Ryan is a homophobe in many ways, and I’m FAR from the only one to think that. I’ve talked at length about this to quite a few people here on Tumblr, I think one of them was snarkatthedisco but I could be wrong.

The reason I say that though, is that Ryan always maintained his straightness. He always made it clear he was straight and even sometimes seemed to be overly outspoken about it in the things he said, like talking about fucking girls or having girlfriends or whatever, and mainly the way he acted, most likely because of the way Brendon acted with him and because he knew Brendon loved him (again, I’m speculating but I think most of the fanbase would agree it was pretty obvious that Brendon had a lot of love for Ryan.)

Obviously none of this is fact, but it’s not hard for someone with a few college psychology courses at the very least to see any of this. Maybe someday I’ll tell everything to my dad and show him all these pictures and videos and get his true psych analysis of it, but I’m sure it would be pretty similar to mine.

Anyway. Sorry to ramble on and on, I just have so much to say on this subject. I have so much more info and thoughts so if anyone wants to talk about it, please don’t hesitate to message me. I’ll turn anon on for a bit, but if you’re just going to message me to bitch me out or insult me because I “dissed your otp” then go away and just please grow up. Those are the kind of people that make people embarrassed to be a part of the PATD fandom. Don’t contribute to the hatred we already have for so many parts of the fanbase. I’ll either just delete the messages or turn off anon again anyway.

I’d like to have educated, intelligent, spirited debates about this because it truly interests me greatly. I’m not insulting Ryden, in actuality, and I’m not insulting Ryan, well okay. I’m insulting him, but it’s my opinion. I’m just expressing my opinions and explaining WHY I hold those opinions on him. That’s it. I’m not telling anyone to agree or believe what I say. 

I never said “Ryden is so fake” or “Ryden is so stupid” or anything of the sort, so please don’t come at me attacking me to try and defend your ship. It’s stupid and pathetic. Let’s be mature here. Let’s talk about it. I’m interested in hearing all theories.

Well, That is a very interesting point that you make and I have to agree with you to a certain extent. I don’t believe that Ryden ever existed and if it did it was strictly one-sided. However, I do have to disagree with your interpretation of Ryan’s actions towards Brendon and that he’s homophobic.

I would like to posit a hypothetical situation that I think would be very familiar to Tumblr at large. Picture yourself and a very close friend of yours who works with you. You guys were friends for a long time before that but you guys were always close. Now, one day, this friend of yours comes out and confesses that they have feelings for you and want to be in a relationship. But you don’t reciprocate those feelings.

What are you supposed to do? You want to be supportive and you’ll have to see each other everyday. In fact the nature of your work means that you’ll have to travel a lot and share a hotel room on occasion. You tell them that you don’t feel the same and just want to stay friends. But that’s not the end of it.

Anytime you’re in public, your friend throws an arm around you, hugs you, kisses you, grabs you. You know how they feel, so all of this is so uncomfortable. You can’t just push them off or yell at them,you have to work together, after all.But people are starting to talk. Now people are asking if you two are together. It’s almost like people are trying to pressure you into dating the other person. But you . Don’t. Want. To.

That is how the situation reads to me. Ryan is the “you” in this situation and Brendon is the “friend”. That’s why I disagree with you. All of this reads as Brendon forcing his feelings onto Ryan and especially in situations where he can’t say no. If someone is taking your picture and your friend trows an arm around you or hugs you, what are you supposed to do? Push them away? Make it awkward for everyone? Especially in the entertainment industry, the vultures world have descended like crazy.

Add in the same-sex nature of the situation in a climate when homosexuality wasn’t nearly as accepted as it was now. Combine that with Ryan’s possibly homophobic father and his own sexuality and it becomes even more uncomfortable. I don’t think that not reciprocating feelings for another person of your same gender makes you homophobic. Ryan has never said anything to the effect of hating gay people, he was merely stating that, yes, he is straight and does not want to be in a relationship with another man. In fact on his Instagram page you can see that he is really good friends with Daniel Adams who is openly gay.

That’s why I don’t ship Ryden and why I don’t particularly like Brendon all that much. It really isn’t fair to force yourself on someone and make them uncomfortable, especially when you know everyone is watching and looking and shipping.
