01.11.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 14 - The Final Final Poster

I didn’t manage to go to critique day because of my car accident. However, I did manage to ask my close friends and family about what changes I could do to improve my poster. Overall, the final exhibition poster has been completed and I am ready to place it on the exhibition wall now.

The paragraph has been changed slightly with the font and all letters now being put back to normal. No all capital letters. I changed the colours to match the informative booklet. At the end of the day, I am very pleased with the final outcome.

31.10.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 14 - Last day of October!

I have gotten an extension date until November 8th and so I am grateful I have more time to focus on my studio. I spent yesterday shopping for equipment, as well as today and I also managed to create the animation for my red eyeball. Using After Effects for the first time was a lot more simpler than I thought which I now understand why everyone recommended the software to me. Especially for a beginner’s level. Kim helped me understand the software a lot and gave me 5 minutes worth of tips and advice, and gave me a small tutorial on how to use the basics of the software. Thank you Kim!

As a result, I’ve managed to get the iris moving around and so I feel a lot more at ease now. Most importantly, I’ve also decided I am going to play-test on either Friday or next Monday. I want to aim for Friday though just to get this project out of the way and focus on my exams for my marketing paper.

I also spent the entire day preparing for my exhibition where I also found myself purchasing random decorations for my project. Coincidently, it is also Halloween season and so there were a lot of eyeballs at Look Sharp and at other stores to follow the same theme as my project. Therefore, I invested in some bouncy ball eyeballs to be props to my project.

Anyway, I took pictures of what else I got up to in studio today in which all pictures will be supported by captions explaining what is happening in the photo.

(Above) I got the bowls ready to put water in for the paintbrushes and to mix the paint. There is also the Polystyrene ball in full form, and the marbles. In other words, all the equipment needed for the day. There are the two boxes ‘Realise’ and ‘Marbles’, and also paint. Oh, and of course my laptop for some entertainment before a whole day of painting.

(Above) I ended up painting the pink box black to match the other black box. Also, you can see the grey marbles (which look like they are black from the filter added... oops). I painted the marbles with the paintbrush I bought today, however, I found it difficult as because they are a round surface, I couldn’t dry the entire marbles because they all had to be sitting on the paper. I painted the paper first to prevent the marbles from rolling away and to dry on paint but it didn’t entirely work.

(Above) I mixed the colours red and yellow to create orange. I wish I had made the orange lighter as I realised once the marbles have been painted, that it was hard to differentiate between the two colours which is my concern. Especially in a dark room where the exhibit will be held.

(Above) I managed to slice the Polystyrene ball by using three different types of tools - a craft knife, a mini saw of some type that is definitely not made for cutting Polystyrene balls, and lastly which made the ball cut in half, a metal 1 metre ruler. Yes, it did the trick! I then painted the balls white to fill up the gaps and make the balls look whiter. I also managed to cover up some red marks the balls had to make the balls look cleaner. I might need to do a third layer because it still hasn’t covered up the entire red marks... you can vaguely see it.

(Above) I went to The Stationery Warehouse and printed out my posters and title that I am going to stick on the walls. I am going to have to find a way to cut them without ruining the letters. Both were printed in 200 GSM. I also managed to print out the book, however, for some reason, I must have rendered on Illustrator wrongly because the page that shows the data did not show. But the booklet above is a preview of what it will look like.

(Above) I went to The Warehouse after and purchased double-sided sticky tape only to realise that the tape wouldn’t actually stick to the Polystyrene ball. I then remembered my conversation I had with Clint and Kim today about what type of tape I should use, and with Google confirming, I bought velcro tape. I stuck the velcro tape on and it actually worked. So, velcro it is!

What I have to do next is focus on my animation and get my informative booklet reprinted. I am also going to print out my labels for the boxes and start play-testing to see how everything turns out. Everything is going to plan so I am not extremely concerned.

21.10.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 12 - Animated eyeballs have begun

So I just started my actual project today and I feel like I can create this entire animated video in one entire day if I really put in the effort. I am a fast worker overall. The reason to why I am so behind is due to working constantly at hours which I should be “asleep” which really disrupts my entire sleeping patterns and week but I have eventually started. I did also get into a car accident which I was lucky to get an extension date to focus on my contextual and conceptual, and my overall project by either two or five days. I’ve been using this tutorial to draw the eyeballs. With animation tutorials, Charles has linked me some tutorials he used for his past projects which is going to help me a lot. I have gone through some of them which seems easy to learn and he recommended it, therefore, I think it would be ideal. Moreover, he also sent me links to glitch videos which is going to be a big part of my animation video.

I drew my first pair of eyeballs today and they are red to represent the emotion of anger and rage. I actually prefer these eyeballs than the actual realistic looking eyeballs because my entire video is based on animation rather than looking as realistic as possible. I am going to create the same type of eyeballs for the other colours orange, yellow, blue, and grey.

With my poster, I did tweak the colours a bit to match the informative booklet which is now all complete and ready to be printed off. Tomorrow, I am going to go equipment shopping in the city and arts and crafts stores for a 30cm Polystyrene ball. I did find some online but the delivery says it will not be in New Zealand until November 10th which is when the open studio day is so that won’t be very useful. If worst comes to worse, I am going to buy a big bouncy ball from kmart, paint it white, cut it in half and then stick it on to the wall in studio. I also need to confirm for projectors and a laptop with Kim. Lastly, I’m going to go to Bunnings and perhaps half a grey paint with Nora so we can both paint our walls black/grey. This coming week is going to be extremely busy and pressuring for me but I believe I can do it.

14.10.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 11 - Finalised poster (Until Crit Day)

Here is the finalised poster I have just managed to complete after 4 hours of working on it straight. If you have any feedback, feel free to message me here.

With the capital letters, they were originally a lot thicker (and I did want it to be capital to match the title and for the text to also be in your face as it is a poster). However, the text looked complicated to read with the thick dark grey text, and so I thinned the text out and now I am happy with it.

14.10.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 11 - Poster? Booklet?

I’ve been working at an extremely past pace right now trying to get everything done within a short period of time and I actually think I am doing well. I’ve been managing to do this, as well as create my own person UX/UI design portfolio which I am not going to share on here. But, I am proud of how fast I am working, and I feel like working last minute always gives me that extra motivating and push... I’m not sure why. Bad habit, but it gets the job done and that is what matters at the end of the day, right? At least my blogging is up to point too! I also enjoy blogging too so this studio paper is going great overall.

Yesterday and today, I’ve been focusing on my poster as we need to hand in a draft copy by Monday and Thursday. As you can see there is quite a contrast between the first and second design. The first design was from my own personal ideas, however, I realised that the outcome of the poster would probably be a lot better if I found inspiration online from Pinterest, copied it but changed it up a little bit to make it more personal and “mine”.

The example poster is the one on the right with the banana. I really admired the simplicity and the minimalistic look of the entire poster, with the subject focus being on the banana. I decided that if I did the same with an eyeball on my poster, everyone will instantly know what my project is going to be about, an animated eyeball. However, the image will intrigue them on what the project is going to be about, in which this is where the selling point takes place where the project is briefly described. As I have an informative booklet where there will be a lot of information, I decided I don’t want too much information on the poster. With the booklet and the poster combined, there is already enough information.

The booklet is almost finished. I just need to complete the colour vs. emotion vs. the behaviour of lying pages and then I am completed. I will visit a printing shop on Monday when I get my equipment for open studio. Overall, I am pleased with both designs of my poster and booklet. It is very modern and colourful which I love about my project. Compared to my past projects, this project is very different and I think the multicolour appearance of it sells to the audience already... at the end of the day, colour attracts people!

I need to start creating the actual animated video though which already there is so much I need to do and work on. I should have started the video already, however, as I am extremely bad at sticking to timelines, I created on in my mind that I will stick to, giving myself a limited time. I have also been using the “Reminders” application on my iPhone, as well as the calendar, to help me keep on top of my game. Even a “To Do List” I created didn’t seem to be followed, so I realised that maybe I am a going with the flow type of person. I still manage to get all my tasks done in time though. Now, I am going to look at the tutorials and try again. I’ve been looking at Cinema 4D Lite tutorials, however, because I downloaded Maya 2018 specifically for this project, I am going to try my best to use that software first before anything else. Especially since the software is more advanced too, it will be a fun challenge to overcome.

Update (5:14PM) I altered the colours, as well changed up the description, including my name to the poster. At this point, the poster is done and I am going to bring this poster for feedback on Monday and Thursday.

12.10.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 11 - On the go go go!

As the title says, I’ve been on the go! In other words, I’ve been doing as much as I can from the limited time I have as I am extremely behind already. I haven’t started on the animated eyeball itself nor the video editing, and I still need to get my equipment for open studio, complete my poster, and design how I am going to layout my project. I do have an idea in mind after surfing on Pinterest and came across this layout which stood out to me.

The entire day today, I’ve been focusing on my informative booklet where the audience is able to gain a bit of knowledge on the project, and also follow the instructions for the psychological experiment. I’ve been constantly changing my designs as I wanted a modern look to my booklet. My final conclusion for this book is that it is going to be professionally printed as if it really is a book that you can buy in a store.

Obviously, this is not the complete book, but this is most of it. The book is going to be quite short as I don’t think anyone wants to read a thick book, especially at an open studio when there are tons of other exciting projects to look at. I have completed my contextual and conceptual statements, and they are reading for handing in. For most, I am confident that I can finish this project on time even though currently I am extremely behind. I am going to go shopping for equipment on Tuesday after I get my measurements of the wall I want to use for my open studio. I am also going to ask for a table and a projector. For my exhibit, I am wanting to pain the walls dark grey following the ideal interior for the exhibition layout shown in the Pinterest picture above, however, my other option is keeping the wall entirely white and just using a black cloth on the table. Personally, I prefer the first option though.

I am going to create a shopping list on Monday and work out the budget on what I need to buy. I’m at least wanting to spend $50.00 maximum (because poor student life), and I’m going to go around and see if any of my friends or even COLAB has any equipment available that I can possibly borrow.

10.10.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 11

Hello everyone, long time no post. I have been absent from this blog for a week and a bit now because of other papers and assignments being due, and also because of my constant sickness which I have been bed run the entire time. But I am back again to do my studio, even though now I am extremely behind. I’m currently stressing out and panicking as time is running out and I still don’t have a solid idea on what I want to do, crazy situation but my mind is all over the place at the moment. No significant progress has been made since my last post which irritates me a lot and I am hoping to do as much as I can this week. Starting off with tomorrow after my Transmedia Narratives class, I’m going to go from 0-100 studio focused mode.

Today, I played around with Maya again following the tutorial in my previous post. Even when following the tutorial, I didn’t know how to access some options of the software as the versions are different, and the select/edit mode was all very confusing. As a result, I realised how difficult this project is going to be but I am willing to try my best. Otherwise, I am going to have to come up with an extremely fast back up plan. Below is a screenshot of what I’ve done.

The eyeball below is an example of how I want the eyeball to turn out and how I want it to function with the iris changing colour based on the emotion. I decided potentially instead of just eyeball colour change, I should make a video that has a lot of effects and various types of transitions, making the video look very “in your face” and fascinating to the point you cannot look away. The glitches and everything would make the video a lot more interesting to look at rather than just a plain eye that changes colour. However, this is only an idea I have in mind. I am going to decide how I will edit the video once I get this animation working and figure out how to complete everything.

The eyeball is not going to move around as hectically but to the extent where it is not boringly just sitting there, or I guess ‘floating’ there. Imagine two of them side by side... that’s what I want to do and the idea I have in mind for the exhibition layout. The overall type of look I want my video to look is like the brief edit of the screenshot below (screenshots taken from the video above).

26.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 9 - Reality to animation?

After the critique session, I forgot to mention in my previous post that once the session was over, I asked Drake and Nick what softwares I should use to help me animate an eyeball. They referred me to Dillon, and so I asked Dillon the same question. Dillon suggested drawing the eyeball on Illustrator (which I know how to use very well), then animate that eye ball using after effects and premiere pro. This idea sounded great as I am capable of doing it, but I do want to challenge myself for my last ever studio project. My only concern is do I have enough time to learn an entire new software and develop a skill? My heart says yes, but I’m feeling a bit iffy.

I searched up on youtube “how to create an animated eyeball” and it the results all came up with Maya. I completely forgot about that software, but most importantly, I don’t even know how to use that software. I decided to download Maya 2018 and play around with the software following one of the tutorials to see how easy or difficult it is to create one eyeball. Although I did not have enough time to finish the eyeball and I need to get a proper computer mouse, this is what I so far did with the software.

Working without a computer mouse was quite tricky, especially with the limited time I had as I had something to do. But my thoughts on the software is so far so good, I feel like I could potentially use it, especially with the tutorial available. I am currently using two tutorials. One is for general for when I get stuck, and the second is for the actual animated eyeball itself. A question I have is that how am I going to project an entire eyeball on to the half round surface. There are two solutions I came up with:

Do not cut the ball in half and just buy two and make it look like two eyeballs sticking out of the wall.

Somehow find a way to reshape the circular shape on Maya to half, and work with that.

So far, I am nervous as time is running out and I literally have three more weeks. I am going to try complete the eyeball by next Wednesday and then play with the projection after that. I’m more leaning towards the first though because I am a beginners at Maya at the end of the day. However, if Maya does get too difficult and complicated for me and I resort my way to what Dillon suggested, then I could potentially use half the eyeball again. Currently at this stage, I am going with the “flow” but at a fast pace and hoping I get everything I need to done by the end of the semester for open studio.

25.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 9 - Critique Session with Ben

Today I had Ben for a studio lecturer today which was different as I haven’t taken his paper since first year when I was exploring gaming. Although, we didn’t really actually have him as a lecturer because today was all about going into a critique groups once again and sharing our ideas, progresses, and exchanging advice/feedback. Overall, this critique session was another game changer for me because after listening to everyone else’s projects, I felt a little bit pressured and felt as if I wasn’t doing anything huge enough to make everyone react with a “wow” or anything. Therefore, before it was my time to share my process and idea, I slightly changed my project.

New project idea: I am going to stick to the theme of using colour, lying, and emotions once again. The project will be the same but the change is that instead of filming a person’s eye, I am going to somehow animate the eye. I am new to the entire animating area so I am going to try learn as much as I can within a week and then animate the eye, in which this case will be the iris changing colour with perhaps maybe the pupils dilating due to emotion.

Once I shared this idea the feedback came flowing and firstly, Nick mentioned Robert Plutchik’s colour of wheel. I looked into it and a diagram came up identifying eight basic emotions that branch out to further emotions in relation to the colour. Plutchik states, “emotions are much more complex than most people realise” in which this state is true because a gradient change can reflect off a certain emotion. The wheel shows that emotions have opposites. For example, joy is the opposite of sadness.

Another feedback Nick stated is that people are sheep and they often follow along what other people do or say. In this case, with the “realise” box, Nick stated perhaps maybe covering the box so the results aren’t showing because let’s say red is the most picked colour and the participant/audience can see that, they would want to pick red too. It’s part of psychology and I agreed with this because sometimes I find myself doing that. So, I decided, I need to come up with a way to hide the results for once they’ve finished the experiment they can see. Perhaps some chart, or a box where the lid can be opened/closed, and people can use their hands to dig around and see what colours they see the most afterwards.

I also realised I have no time to prototype for the filming eye anymore as I am not doing that as my project, and so now I need to quickly learn how to animate and efficiently too. I want to perhaps make the iris be an inspiration off Plutchik’s colour of wheel and perhaps do a gradient animation with the iris if I am capable of doing it. But for now, I will keep it simple.

With the sound, I will keep it the same with the gamma waves as I want the one-to-one interaction to be significant, especially when gamma waves are known to really help with expressing emotions.

24.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 8 - A bit behind on schedule

I am once again very behind on schedule as I have not been able to make process due to being extremely sick with the virus/flu and also I have been concentrating on my marketing & advertising paper. So, let me reflect on my milestone timeline before I mention anything else. As stated before, I am behind. I did manage to purchase equipment and I completed all my research. That’s all I have managed to do, but the actual mock-up creation wise, I haven’t exactly done anything. I’m thinking of filming and editing the entire video tomorrow, and if I do have the time, fitting in the projection testing too. Realistically, I think that filming would take me 5 minutes maximum as it is only a test, editing would take about 3 hours, and the projection would take 1 hour to get it right and also film the projection itself. Furthermore if possible, I am willing to find a model for my actual project in which I do have some people in mind right now. However, I do only want to use one model for this and so I do want to use someone who can be very expressive with their facial expressions.

Whilst researching, I found myself coming up with a few new questions in mind, and altering my original ideas. My first major idea is using gamma waves for the background sound instead of isochronic tones. Whereas both sounds trigger focus and concentration, gamma waves is recognised to signify the highest state of focus possible when it comes to any sort of sound, especially with the window frequency set to 40 Hz. As a result, I confirmed the sound of gamma waves to be my finalisation background sound. Another change is that I may have one eye blinking and the other eye looking around at the same time to create a feeling of discomfort and relief, and make the “creature of eyes” on the screen look weird. Weird is cool, but this is just an idea I had. I’m not too sure if this will be a distraction though.

I completed my research and therefore did all of my contextual statement, and with this research done and because my interest on this topic is so big, I didn’t realise how many references I got (which is not a bad thing), but it is definitely a lot than I have ever done in any of my other projects before. Made me realise, the more interested you are in your studies, the more effort you put in.

I am now beginning to think of how I could present my poster as I want to create a foundation base on my poster before I follow the theme on to my video. Currently, all I have done is shown below but it’s a starter, right? Now you can keep up to date with me on what I do as I go. I am also not going to create another milestone timeline until tomorrow once my first milestone testing is complete or else it would make me want to skip the entire prototyping.

20.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 8 - Pause

Today I was feeling extremely sick. I’m coming down with a cold I think and so I spent the morning sleeping in and then went to work as soon as I woke up. I came home around 8:00pm and went straight to bed, and it’s now 12:59am and I have woken up. In other words, I had no time to do any of my studio work today and so I am behind once again. I was meant to film a pair of eyes but I couldn’t get on to that but once I had woken up from my nap, I had time to research into how to projection map by looking at YouTube tutorials. But because Clint said projection mapping may not be needed, I explored different ways on how I could put a put a mask over the film with a blank background and place in two circular shapes to get the projection mapping look of it.

Firstly, I researched on how long I should make the video and came across a really helpful report on a website that shows statistics on the attention span of a human being towards a video. The website stated that the ideal length period is 2 minutes as any longer than that could bore the audience. They might even skip parts of the video to reach the end, in which now that I reflect on the past videos I’ve watched, especially trailers, they are all around 2 minutes.

I then expanded out my research to image masking on Adobe Premiere Pro and came across this video. I actually found it helpful to watch as the entire tutorial was extremely simple. However, my masking is not going to be another video but an image that is going to be dark grey with two circles, and in this case, adding an image mask should be a lot more easier than a video. I decided my research for masking ends here because this tutorial was enough for me to understand how to do the process. If I do need further help, I will continue my research as I begin editing the video but for now what I need to get done is film someone’s pair of eyes. I expect my one take of video to last for 3 minutes maximum and I can play around with the different emotions and colours. Moreover, I am going to write down a chart of different emotions with the representing colour before I start shooting just to get an overall idea of what I need to film and how I can edit it as I am filming.

19.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 8 - More Research

The research process is going well and is becoming a lot more intense and interesting all at the same time. I’ve always wanted to study psychology and so to be able to study human nature and how they act is all so intriguing and I didn’t realise I’ve been continuing my research for more than five hours now. I also have done my references as I go to speed up the process of writing everything all at once altogether. My research also has a quick draft of what I am going to write for each colour.

18.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 8 - Eyeball Video

I came across this video to help me with ideas on what I could make the eyeball do especially since there is such a limited amount I could do as I will only be showing such a small part of the face so much of the expression won’t be shown. A lot of blinking, eye wandering around and avoiding eye contact is important, but I also want the eyeball to be intimidating. As if the individual having the one to one session with the exhibit cannot lie to the eye because it is so frightening and so straight in their face. Like when the eyeball is a hundred times bigger than your own and it is staring at you, you definitely would feel intimidated right? And a bit nervous as it feels like you’re being interrogated.

18.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 8 - Mock it up

As stated in the mock-up plan, I went shopping for a polystyrene ball. However, instead of running around in the extremely gloomy and rainy weather today, I decided to save myself from getting sick and time by calling up all the arts and crafts shops listed in my previous post. Instead of purchasing my final exhibition ball as well, I decided to save that for later as if the polystyrene ball is not a good material to be a screen, I can save money and get a better surface for the open studio version. All the shops had the polystyrene balls, but I decided to go to Look Sharp off Queen Street as they were the cheapest option. I purchased a 110mm polystyrene ball for $2.00, in which other places costed $11.40 or more. For my final studio, I do want to get a bigger ball to project on which I am aiming to get a 300mm ball - I think this size is big enough to stand out without being too intense as they are going to appear as eyeballs in the exhibition.

I began doing my research as well but I found that it is very difficult to find genuine and accurate sources. However, I am relying a lot of my research on reports and personal opinions and feelings, as I have lied in my life before. I actually had a discussion about this with Clint today, and he stated that everyone has lied in their life so what is the point of this project? And yes, everyone has but that is why this project is taking place. It is a social experiment to see what the most popular emotion takes place when a lie is told or is reminded of.

Another excuse is because after discussing with my friend last year about my In Sexto Sensu project, she told me that the reason why my project was very memorable was because it was relatable. She had the five senses that was shown in the video, and then for the sixth sense to appear out of nowhere, it intrigued here because she learnt about sense that some people in this world have. She’s almost there because she has five of them, but why is she not able to feel or see the sixth sense? Clint’s feedback to me was that my idea is great, and for the amount of time we have left, it is reasonable and doable which made me feel really secure because it is my first time I had a discussion with him about this project idea. He also suggested that maybe projection mapping may not be needed, and so with that in mind, maybe I will see what else I could do. He mentioned that if I am going to be using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, I could use masking to add layers on and weakening the black contrast to a greyish appearance.

Clint also asked me what the purpose of my project is? I realised I have not really discussed this with you so I will explain now. As an observant individual, growing up I have always been able to tell whether someone has lied or not. Whether if they have acted strange as they told the lie and so it is obvious (known as a bad liar), or if in the future, their stories do not add up and the truth is revealed, etc. but either way people have lied to me. But on the other hand, I have also lied before numerous times in my life. Whether it was for my own pride, fear, or anger. I then thought about colours, and I remember having a discussion with my mom that looking at a specific colour can trigger your emotions or feelings. For example, apparently the colour red can make you hungry due to the raise of the person’s blood pressure and heart rate. This is why so many restaurants have the colour red, and even the Zomato application is red. I then related this past conversation to my current idea and decided how I can use the knowledge of colour to play with peoples emotions in a way to social experiment with them. This involves the individual sitting down, there will be an eye blinking, looking around and doing all the actions and expressions that people do with their eyes when they tell a lie. The eyeball will also have a coloured mask over with the opacity at 70% in which the colours will constantly change. Each change may last for about 2 seconds which gives enough time for the individual to take in the colour but also not get bored of the video. The colours will be repeated a few times, which the individual is asked to think about the last lie they have told. There will be coloured pieces of paper that matches the colours on the screen, and the individual is asked to pick the colour that stood out to them the most (pick up the paper) and place it into the “Realise” container in which people are able to see which colours are the most popular. The instructions will be written on a booklet in which at the end of the book (or one of the last few pages) will explain what each colour represents and that the colour they picked is highly a chance of how they felt or feel about the lie they have told.

I also forgot to state that instead of having the Illuminati triangle, I am going to just have a set of huge eyes staring at the individual because the triangle would be a bit too hard to complete using only one projector. If I was able to have two or three, I would be happily able to do the illuminati triangle but due to limited equipment and such little time, I do not have much of an option.

Currently, I am continuing my research and so far I have done two pages worth but I have the rest of the night to get at least 10 pages worth which I am definitely going to complete before I sleep.

17.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 7 - 300th post!

This post is my 300th Tumblr post and I am glad I’m writing it on my THIRD year studio project (hehehe). It is also going to be a post about me talking about “realising stuff”. If you don’t watch Kylie Jenner interviews, you won’t get it, but moving forward...

I spent the entire day thinking how I can make tomorrow a really productive day as I am already so many weeks behind. My conclusion came to doing more than I stated than what my ‘Mock-up plan’ states. So tomorrow, apparently I am only going to go look for a foam ball or some sort of white, round, thin, and circular object so i can cut it into two and create a surface to project on. Yes, I am going to do that but I am also going to research more on how emotions and lying can come together. All the questions I have in mind are pointed out in my Asana sticker board. I also realised that the sticker board actually is helping my thinking process quicken and my creative juices flow faster. All these questions began to come up in my head, and I noticed that I actually became very self-critical towards my own idea.

With these questions, I am going to go on a major research spree and answer all these questions on to a Word Document, which will be useful for my contextual statements anyway. I am going to write more ideas down as I go but for now this is all I have.

17.09.17: Studio (The Revenge of Space, Image & Sound) Week 7 - Milestone Timeline

clThis week, I decided to do a mock-up plan of my Studio. Not going to lie, I am actually very behind with my project due to work and other important matters coming up, however, I only have five weeks left so I am going to utilise the limited amount of time to my best ability I can. So getting into it, below is an image of my mock-up plan. To elaborate:

Purchase equipment: Go to Look Sharp or other related stores to look for a white ball that can be cut into two. Purchase one small and if possible, one for the exhibition.

Create mock-up: Film a pair of eyes and research into how to projection map - look at YouTube tutorials.

Editing process: Begin editing the shots with what I have learnt from the projection map tutorials, make sure to blog as I go.

Exhibition creation: Cut the white ball in half and projection map on to the ball with the finalised mock-up edit film.

This means, tomorrow I am going to drive around and look at shops to find either a foam ball or a thin plastic ball that can be cut into two. My shops I am currently thinking of are David Emporium, Gordon Harris, The Stationery Warehouse, Look Sharp, and Ikes + Geoff’s Emporium. Once I have done that, I may begin my second task earlier and look into how I could projection map and see how easy or difficult the process would be.

I will create another timeline on Sunday for Week 9 as I am the type of person that would stick to a week to week schedule rather than a entire month’s schedule.

Now what I need to do is work out how I will film the close-up eye shots with decent portrait lighting, as well as look into writing my contextual and conceptual statements. Furthermore, I need to write my reflective statement as well, and update my portfolio. I am going to do my website last minute as I decided that I want to use squarespace for my website as I am going to use this website for when I graduate to look for jobs. I will focus on the statements in the last week as I feel that they are not much of a priority currently, and so making the prototype and the finalised film is what I need to quickly get on to, and then developing my projection map skills is what I need to work on.

I also went on Asana to create a sticker chat of things I need to do, which I thought would be a lot more useful and helpful as I am a visual person and a reminder. I prefer stickers than an entire list that looks complicated and like a handful amount of work to do.
