He couldn’t find his voice until he was inside, back inside a house that was at least safe from the outside world. Being afraid wasn’t Miguel’s thing. In fact getting involved in the diner fire had been one of the most thrilling experiences since moving to Paraiso. But he couldn’t help but think of Lucy and Ellie afterwards, bringing him to the doctor’s doorsteps to check on them. The rosary beads were shoved into his pocket before finally looking back at Eleanor, giving her a half smile. “Yeah, yeah.. I’m fine. I just wanted to see Lucy.”

Once the initial relief had worn off, she could feel herself growing more annoyed. “That’s-” cutting herself off with a sign, she nodded her head once. “-Yeah, okay. She’s asleep, though. Living room. If you wake her up, you have to get her back to sleep.” The tone was jovial, but she meant it. Her shift wasn’t too far away, and she’d hoped for at least a little bit of quiet before the bustle of the hospital. “Are you- are you sure you’re alright? Was anyone hurt?”
