INDEPENDENCE.

you don’t set out to be different for its own sake; you are more easily guided by what interests and moves you. you are more concerned about what is right for you than about the pressure to fit in. in sex you are more aware than others of impulses which are not entirely conventional. you know the value of selective irresponsibility, of forgetting occasionally about being ‘good’.

AGGRESSION.

one part of your character is anger in all its forms: frustration, outrage – and when anger is suppressed – bitterness, grumpiness, and bodily aches. fundamentally, frustration comes from hope: you get upset because you expect your life will be more than a valley of tears. one way to deny aggression is to direct it inwards, as self-criticism. but you’re at your best when you acknowledge anger, and act it out clearly and in a focused way, with honor.

ORDERLINESS.

you love it when everything is neat and tidy: when there is a proper way of doing things, and you can tick things off the to-do list and know where everything is. so others, at times, are to you unbearably sloppy and messy. and you run into things that can’t be ordered (a child, a partner, a colleague at work) which drives you slightly nuts. but your desire for order is a good one when it is focussed where it is needed and when you’re okay with a bit of mess.

the order of the dragon ( latin “societatis draconistrarum” ) was founded in 1408 by holy roman emperor sigismund von luxembourg, kind of hungary. the order’s original purpose was to protect the royal family and defend the catholic church against its enemies. on official records the true purpose of the order, defending humans against supernatural threats, was never mentioned and kept secret under an oath.

recruited in 1431, vlad ii, father of the infamous vlad iii “the impaler”, became an important member of the society. known for his brutality and bloodthirst in battle, vlad iii was responsible for the many deaths of upir and werewolves in the wallachia. in the late 15th century rumors within the order began spreading that vlad iii himself was not entirely human. if those rumors and a possible assassination plot played a part in his death have not been confirmed by any remaining members of the order, all inquiries about vlad’s fate have been dismissed and his name has been erased from most records.

after sigismund’s death in 1437, the order had lost its importance as a chivalric order but few remaining members continued to operate in parts of europe to keep supernatural beings under control. with the holy roman emperor’s death and the position as head of the order open, a chancellor was appointed and under a new statute, new members were initiated into the order after proving themselves worthy in the eyes of the catholic church.

in november of 1884 olivia signed a truce with the current chancellor of the order in paris, her kind would have to obey the order’s rules and go after the degenerates of society. any upir that would disobey those rules would be killed. it is unknown if any werewolf packs have signed a similar truce.

in modern times, the order of the dragon still operates all over the world with members usually working alone or in small groups. the current purpose of the order is not to eradicate all supernatural beings but rather to keep them in control and take care of any isolated cases that would threaten the exposure of the order or confirm the existence of the supernatural.

stench of carrion filled his lungs, the air was pregnant with the rank of decomposing flesh. he had seen this assortment of skin and flesh once before, the smell was an unpleasant one that had buried its way deep into his memory since the harvest moon. peter. except it wasn’t peter. he knew better than to leave behind any evidence, he was careful. roman took a few steps back from the red pulpy mess on the forest floor, already home to its resident decomposers. he could not tell which was more nauseating; having almost stepped into the remnants of human tissue or knowing that peter was not alone in roaming these woods.

clairvoyance is one of roman’s most dominant intuitive traits. despite the fact that upir are the offspring of witches and demons, it is uncommon for upir to be able to tap into their psychic abilities and most lose access to those gifts in their teenage years. however, on rare occasions, those gifts can be reawakened as adults.

while roman always had a powerful crown chakra ( sahasrara ) he was not able to fully access a higher state of consciousness until he met peter. their strong spiritual connection allowed him to experience shared visions in his dreams for the first time. those visions, however, did not always have a clear meaning to them, they were compiled of fragments and visual metaphors of events that have not yet taken place. and while most of his visions are encountered in a state of dreaming they can be experienced in a conscious state, albeit often accompanied by negative side effects such as headaches, heightened photosensitivity or nosebleeds.

though not as prominent as his clairvoyance, roman was more susceptible to his clairsentience after his return from his catabasis and it is often indicated by a strong feeling after experiencing a vision. due to a certain imbalance and not being completely in touch with his sacral chakra ( svadhishthana ), it is difficult for roman to interpret those feelings and he generally does not pay as much attention to them as he does with his visions.

after peter left and he underwent his transformation, roman experienced an imbalance of his crown chakra and a disconnection to anything spiritual. it is unknown if this loss of his abilities is just temporarily or something permanent.

roman’s teeth are even and white, having been provided with excellent dental care from a young age on. he does, however, lack a set of wisdom teeth in his upper and bottom jaw. he takes good care of his teeth and despite excessive smoking, they don’t have any discoloration.

as upir, roman has elongated canines with the primary function to puncture skin and inject venom. he has two venom glands near the outer edge of his upper jaw/maxilla. when biting down, muscles on the side of the venom glands contract and send venom through the ducts into the fangs. upir fangs are not hollow but rather rely on surface tension for the venom to flow into the wound. upirs also have a flexible jaw that can be dislocated and is used to hold on to the victim to ensure envenomation.

upir toxin is primarily neurotoxic but also contains hemotoxic enzymes. the neurotoxin causes paralysis of the intercostal muscles and can result in a lack of oxygen supply to the brain when exposed to large amounts of venom. the hemotoxin acts as an anticoagulant during the feeding process, the tissue around the bite can become inflamed or permanently damaged.

like other venoms, the proteins and enzymes in the venom can be broken down and used for medical use and research. the upir toxin can affect both humans and other species, although it is much more potent when used on their own kind and even small doses can be lethal.
