Don't Give Up On Me! - Christmas Update IS OUT!
The first and final update for Don't Give Up On Me! - the Special Christmas Update - is OUT NOW!
As discussed in the previous devlog, this update brings in a special episode reuniting the whole cast for one final chaotic outing, an extras menu, grammatical corrections... and much, MUCH more!
You can see all the changes in the Changelog below.
Changelog
MAJOR CHANGES
- Added special episode: "Day Seven - Christmas Special"; - Added "Extras" Menu; - Choice buttons now have sound effects; - All versions now have a proper desktop icon;
MINOR CHANGES
- Changed the size of the main menu buttons to both PC and Android versions; - Fixed a bug that Akihiko's sprite wouldn't display in certain part of Day Two; - Added a rating request after finishing the Main Story; - Fixed typos in English version; - Corrected grammar mistakes in Brazilian Portuguese version.
Conclusion
I maanged to tie up the whole update just in time for Christmas! It was set to release until Christmas Eve, but unfortunately I didn't have the proper time to actually finish it until then. I am sorry for taking a while, but I dearly hope you'll enjoy this whole special update!
As previously noted, this will be the first and final update Don't Give Up On Me! will ever receive, before I move on to other projects in 2023 and beyond. Ryuzi_nea and I thank you so much for being a part of this whole journey up until now.
As such, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Tomorrow's article: Festive Visual Novels to Play Before the Year Ends
We're covering five visual novels that are the perfect holiday treat to play before the year ends!
Check them out tomorrow!
Don't Give Up On Me: Special Episode - New Screenshots + Information!
Get a FIRST LOOK at Don't Give Up On Me's Special Episode! It is titled as "Day Seven" in-game... even though there's not even a Day Six in the Main Story
More information about the Special Episode AFTER these few screenshots!
In the Special Episode, play as the MC Yorokobi Akihiko yet again for one final chaotic outing. This time, he celebrates Christmas Eve with his friend Fukui Tsuki, and his boyfriend Yoru Aoi!
However, problems arise as Akihiko doesn't know how to give his Christmas gift to Aoi. With the help of Tsuki (perhaps the opposite of help, actually), Akihiko has until midnight to figure out a way on giving his gift properly!
That's not all.
The Christmas Update for Don't Give Up On Me! also brings out an Extras Menu for those who desire to fully see all the art made for the game!
As you play the Main Story + Special Episode, a notification will appear in-game, warning the player about an update to the Extras Menu.
Nothing will be more satisfying than seeing this whole Menu unlocked by the end of the game!
The Christmas Update also brings a handful of grammar correction across the English and Brazilian Portuguese versions of the game and new icons for desktop!
As soon as it comes out, I'll let you know! So follow me and stay tuned!

Special Christmas Update!
You've heard it right!
Don't Give Up On Me!, our free visual novel about a love confession that goes wrong due to pure bad luck, is getting a special update - and it's Christmas related!
This update will bring a whole new special episode set after the main story, featuring our lovable cast of characters for one final chaotic outing. But that's not all! There'll now be an Extras menu for those who desire to see all characters sprites, backgrounds and even more! It will also fix a bunch of grammatical mistakes and typos, both in its English and Brazilian Portuguese versions!
The special Christmas update will mark the first and final update Don't Give Up On Me! will receive, before I move on to my next planned project, which should be out in 2023 - and will also be free!
As for release dates, I really don't know. It'll be out until 24th December, though! I'm finishing up the writing, will translate it all, move on to the typos/grammatical mistakes and release it. The Extras menu is already fully implemented, so there's that!
Thank you for reading all of this, and stay tuned for more news! If anything, follow me to know when it comes out! And don't forget to try out Don't Give Up On Me! if you haven't yet! It's totally free, and I'm sure you'll love it.
This must be my favorite scene of Don't Give Up On Me.
I just find it so random, and I say that as one of the two people who wrote it. I don't know how it happened. It just did.
From a player's perspective, the whole artstyle just changes to a chibi one, and you just see the goddang main character with that disguised face emoji, his crush just running to his direction, and that's all the imagination of a nonsensical, insane girl who thinks all of this is a genuine great idea on how to approach someone.
What were we thinking when we wrote that? I honestly don't know. And I'm glad I don't. It's funnier that way.
Try the game out in case you're curious or something!

Our Writing Process + Tips! (Part One)
When December 17th arrives, it'll mark four months since the release of Don't Give Up On Me! on itch.io.
Time flies so fast! And there hasn't been a single day where I didn't think about this visual novel ever since it came out. All of its story moments still stick with me. Of course, it might be weird for me to say that, as I am one of the writers of the whole game alongside my dear friend and artist Ryuzi_nea. Maybe it's a bit biased. But I would argue otherwise.
Don't Give Up On Me! was something we both gave extreme attention to detail and overall care. We've spent an entire year developing this game together, having necessary breaks when we couldn't focus on the game properly, just so that it'd have the attention it deserved at the proper time. It's not an incomplete game, nor one we'd like to do differently if we had the chance. It's a genuine fulfilled vision - and something we are proud of. And seeing some of the reactions to the game itself is just a confirmation that it was all worth it.
The reason I write this series of devlogs is to reflect and share a bit of how the entire writing process went down. Many things sticked, many things changed. Many scenes were rewritten over and over. Many inspirations were taken from various sources. By sharing all of that with you, dear reader, I sincerely hope some of the things here serve as tips for your own writing - be it for a visual novel, be it for something else.
In this part one, I will talk about how the project came to be - after all, how was the whole concept of Don't Give Up On Me! born?

some new sprites for arc 5 heheh
arc 5 goes in some very interesting directions LOL and also returns hard to the fantastical horror of the first arc a bit I think. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far and I hope people will like it 🤭💕
