Am I the only one who is getting super tired of all those online magazines that are going like “[…] and in this scene in season 4 episode 2, minute 4:53 when soldier xy blinked in the background the demise/betrayal of [insert any character that was fucked over in season 8] was foreshadowed.” And I’m just like ,,,,, NO? It wasn’t. That isn’t foreshadowing. That’s pulling excuses for shitty writing out of your ass, trying to make your own audience believe they are dumb. Dudes we watched the show!!! Don’t try to make me believe things that are not there. I am not buying into your bullshit. If you need a fucking newspaper to justify to YOUR AUDIENCE what the Fuck happened in YOUR OWN SHOWN your writing sucks ass!

Fixing Jaime’s Character Arc

What annoys me is that Jaime’s character arc could have been fixed with a few very small changes in this episode that would have made his death sad but still satisfying and true to the character. And no, it’s not killing Cersei. I’ve never really wanted him to kill Cersei. Who the hell really wants to see a man kill a pregnant woman who is about to die? It’s perfectly realistic that Jaime would comfort his twin in her last moments. And putting aside the fact that I think CERSEI deserved a much better conclusion, lets work with what he have. Here’s the fixes that needed to be made:

1. Jaime should have asked Tyrion to give Brienne a message.

“Tell Brienne I’m sorry. This wasn’t her fault”– something simple to show that Jaime does care about her. She was an important part of his arc and to just not acknowledge her at all felt so weird. Not even a passing mention from Tyrion even after they had that whole conversation about her in the north. And this would have given a sense of Jaime’s regret. He did care about Brienne but he couldn’t bring himself to accept happiness after all he had done.

2. Ring the bells

Jaime should have been the one to ring the bells. As the guy who saved King’s Landing from the Mad King, he DOES care about innocents. And Tyrion told him of the bell plan. He should have been like ‘okay, I’ll ring the bells to save the city and Cersei from the dragon’. It would be an echo of him trying to save the city from the Mad King. But then Dany doesn’t listen and starts burning shit. And that’s when Jaime goes to find Cersei because he knows he has to get her out or she will die. It would be a nod to his honor and the fact that he does want to be a hero.

3. Delete the “only us” part of his Cersei dialogue

Most of the Jaime and Cersei scene didn’t bother me. In fact, it was very moving that he told her to look at him and focus on him. Jaime is already dying from his wounds with Euron. He’s accepted death. I also like that they didn’t kiss. They just hugged and it was very emotional

But the ‘nothing else matters, only us’ really cut the legs out from under his arc. They would have put anything else there: “its okay”, “i’m here”, “I’m sorry”, “Just focus on me”, “it’ll be over soon”. Anything comforting. But not that last line.

Three very small dialogue fixes. Three tiny little notes that could have made me okay with Jaime’s arc. And that’s what is so frustrating. They could have done it…but they didn’t. Because D&D are terrible at character based writing.

How is it possible that NCW liked this ending? Was this a beautiful place? D&D just completely steam rolled his character in the “Inside the episode” thing... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Cersei is all the ever mattered to Jaime? THEN WHY THE FUCK HAVE HIM SLEEP WITH BRIENNE? THIS IS THE WORST POSSIBLE ENDING.. THE WORST!!!!!!!! I AM UTTLERY DESTROYED BY THIS CLUSTERFUCK!!!!
