im a big fan of the idea that the backrooms are an allegory for what dissociation does to your brain. the backrooms represents what happens to your brain when you go through repeated trauma and how it will remember stuff, but not quite exactly how you want it to. a place that is supposed to feel like home and tries to remember it being cozy and comforting but it can’t. all it can remember clearly is the “feelings” you felt as a person. not even your own identity is completely known in the backrooms. because that’s just how much trauma will mess and distort your brain.
