Hi! I feel like I heard at one point that you were an engineer? I just recently became one myself, and was wondering how you balance everything? Iâve basically done nothing much creatively like I used to these past few years since I was focusing on getting the degree, and what time was left over was used for friends n stuff. Iâve been dabbling in trying to get my creative side up again, but still struggle with distributing time tbh. I was curious how youâve been balancing things?
Hey Lunamageice, it's nice to hear from you again -congratulations on your degree!
(Sorry for the delay on answering, my inbox is a bit of a mess atm..)
Yeah, I definitely get that struggle. The work and social aspect can take up so much mental bandwidth that carving out space for creativity again can be a challenge, especially after the transition from school life to working life. Your lifestyle and routine starts to change, and things aren't what they used to be with personal time.
Honestly, balance is something Iâm still figuring out too. I had to rethink how I could reclaim time for my personal endeavors.
A strategy that has helped me is blocking out dedicated time to put into my creative work instead of leaving it as an afterthought. Being intentional about that schedule is important.
You said leftover time was spent on friends outside of work - I think having a healthy and active social life is great! But if you have limited time to yourself, you could adjust how long or how often you hang out. Still, spend time with them, but maybe less, so you can give yourself enough time, too.
Something that can also help is easing back in with low-pressure creative sessions. Let yourself mess around with loose ideas for small bits of time, instead of feeling like you have to get something big done in one sitting.
Above all else, try not to force it too much, and let the creative spark rebuild at its own pace, and donât guilt yourself if the balance isnât perfect right away, a lot of this is an ongoing process, trying to find what works best for you and your life.
I hope this can help you!
