#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 053. @martinparrstudio 'Last Resort' - second edition (1998). Notably different in design, it also has much less saturated images than the more recent version. Contains the same, amazing photographs as all other editions and I actually quite like the cheesy coloured shapes on the pages - very 80s/90s. #PHOTOBOOKLOOK 051. @martinparrstudio 'Small World'. I was lucky enough to get a new, old stock copy recently. A pretty standard book both in quality and design but the images inside are fantastic as you'd expect. Can be hard to find these days and you may have to pay a premium for it. ⭐⭐⭐

#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 046 🏆Julian Germain: Soccer Wonderland. Ill just state now that Julian Germain is one of my absolute favourites! A proper British Artist. This book is a nod to his own youth and the very culture of amateur league football (especially in the 80s). The book is a mixture of both taken and found imagery that combine to create a nostalgic narrative. There are two reasons why you should own this book - 1. The design is fantastic and a lot of thought has gone into the way it flows, reflects its content and the originality of it's design (as is all of Germain's work). 2. Some outstanding large format portraiture from the goddess herself. Excellent photography, but basic book design. ⭐⭐⭐

#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 044. @andrewmiksys 'DISKO' (second edition). A fantastic observational project that's showcased in a brilliantly stylised book. The photography reminds me of Rob Hornstra in some ways. First edition is larger in size which I think I prefer.

#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 038. @richard_mosse Richard Mosse - Incoming. Mosse uses a thermal camera to photograph migrants fleeing Syria, Iraq and other war torn countries and the result is nothing short of amazing. The people in the photos almost appear to be ghosts. The book itself is a soft cover and full bleed, black edged printing. The black edge certainly helps add to the monochrome photographs. The book could be a little bigger for me and that's really the only downside. Much like his previous books, I imagine this will soon sell out! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #photobok #photobookjousting #richardmosse

#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 042. @stefanruizphoto 'San Fransisco Berlin' "large-format portraits depict gay men dressed up for fetish-themed events in two cities that have played pivotal roles in defining gay male aesthetics". Ruiz is a portrait king and I love his formal compositions. I own all of his books as he's a true inspiration. Great book but I prefer 'People' ⭐️⭐️⭐️

#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 035. Benjamin Lowy - 'Iraq | Perspectives'. What an absolute belter of a project!! Sometimes, I come across some photography that is so good it takes a while to take it in - this is that! The images show the views from tanks and armoured vehicles used in Iraq along with views from soldiers night vision goggles. You really get a sense of what the soldiers see on a daily basis. The book itself flows well and benefits from full bleed printing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 034. Adam Brooomberg & Oliver Chanarin - 'Mr. Mkhize's portrait & other stories from the new South Africa'. A lovely little book (and it is little) that includes some superb large format photography. I absolutely love the portraiture in this book and it's nice to have a flick through. The book itself is not the highest quality though. I prefer their book Ghetto to be honest and will share that at some point too! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

#PHOTOBOOKLOOK 043. @murrayballard - The Prospect of Immortality. A proper documentary project, this book examines the idea of cryogenic freezing and delves into those that are researching the process and those hoping to take part. An incredible insight and the book is full of information. I'd say that this book borders being a photobook and a source of research for the subject. I also saw the exhibition quite some time ago now at @impgalleryphoto ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
