          danger? for her, maybe. for the nephilim, the concept that he may get hurt by a very much human killer and their gun was… actually enough to incite a snicker, from the youth, though he was quick to hide it with a forced cough. NOT THE TIME FOR LAUGHTER, OKAY!! super serious mode? activated. and yet, in the back of the boy’s mind, he couldn’t help but find this… cool! an actual police chase!! other universe or not, he had to be part of it!! “ i can help! don’t you trust me?? ” a complete stranger?? asked to put their trust in him?? what could possibly go wrong!

                It seems like she's cursed. Chloe is cursed to never be able to do one investigation without someone weaseling their way in & claiming that they could help her. But, maybe that's what she gets for being a cop in LA. The city of wonder... & of people who seemed to think they could do anything. But this was just a kid. There's another shot at their hiding location, & she pushes him behind her, ducking back into hiding. Where the hell was her back up? She'd even take a text back from Maze at this point. Demon ways or not, she would at least get them out of there.  ❝ Trust? I just met you. Look, I'm a cop. It's my job to keep you safe. --- what's your name? I'm Detective Decker.  ❞  There's a pause as she looks over her options. What options? She was trapped with a civilian, & running out of ways to save them.

Being unarmed, even here where he’s in no danger, makes Kaa squirm. He isn’t a fan of not having protection. And not from mundane matters. He could certainly handle a physical attack. No, what he feared was supernatural. Magical. “My name is Shux’Anaax Kaa. But most simply call me Kaa.”

“Can we… discuss it somewhere more private?“ Kaa glanced around, a reflex when dealing with the supernatural in a world painfully ignorant of it. “There are certain aspects of this that will be difficult to talk about where uninitiated ears might overhear.“ And there it was, all but confirming that he was indeed discussing the supernatural. At least he had been made aware that Cloe knew of all this.

He was running out of proper options.

                There goes her hope that this wouldn't be a supernatural concern. After all, Chloe was very new to this. Her only encounter with the supernatural ( to her knowledge ) was the night with the demons. But, Chloe does have a job to do, & it's helping the people that walk through that door. With a sigh, she stands, opening the interrogation room.  ❝ Alright, Mr. Kaa, you've got my attention. How can I help you? ❞

                     he  watches  her  with  a  cautious  eye  .    he  couldn’t  expect  her  to  receive  him  with  the  same  sentiment  she’d  left  him  with  ,  and  maybe  that  was  the  reason  he  froze  when  her  arms  flew  around  him  .  call  it  shock  ,  call  it  relief  .  it  takes  only  a  few  seconds  and  a  quiet  sigh  to  thaw  him  ,  his  own  arms  rising  to  wrap  around  her  .      ❛  much  better  now          believe  me  .  ❜  the  chuckle  that  escapes  him  is  humorless  ,  more  of  a  breath  he  hadn’t  realized  he’d  been  holding  onto  catching  at  his  lips  .      ❛  i  didn’t  exactly  receive  a  warm  welcome  back  ,  but  they  didn’t  hurt  me  ,  no  .  ❜  he  fears  that  his  time  here  on  earth  would  be  much  more  painful           because  his  time  here  on  earth  is  limited  .   he  was  lucky  to  be  in  her  arms               the  unluckiest  to  have  to  leave  them  .  one  would  think  that  the  man  who  sat  upon  the  throne  would  be  granted  the  freedom  he  desired  .  but  he’d  taken  advantage  of  that  freedom  ,  fallen  in  love  with  it  .  his  own  desires  were  now  limited  .  he  pulls  back  to  look  at  her  and  hopes  that  she  can’t  decipher  the  anguish  behind  his  hardened  irises  .  ❛  just  thought  i  would  pay  you  a  little  visit  so  that  you  don’t  forget  how  devilishly  handsome  i  am  . ❜  his  tone  falls  flat  .  it’s  a  poor  attempt  made  at  humor  ;  his  smirk  falls  just  as  quickly  as  it  had  risen  .  ❛  but  i’m  afraid  that’s  all  it  is  .  ❜  a  visit  . 

                There's a pang in her chest as he admits it. Just a visit? It's as if her heart has fallen straight out of her chest & into the depths of her stomach. There's a deep crease forming between her brows, as she tries to take it all in. So he couldn't stay. Chloe should feel better just by seeing him, & in some ways, she is. But in others, she knew how bad this was going to hurt later. She only gets a second to look back at him, before she's momentarily distracted by Trixie running out of the bedroom, speeding with her book bag. She stops for just a moment to give him a hug, per usual, before shouting out that she was late for the bus & she'd have to see him later.                Now that Trixie had left for the bus, Chloe motions to the coffee pot,  ❝  I can make you a cup, if you want. --- So how long is it? Your visit, I mean. How much -- how much time do I have?  ❞  The look on her face is fragile, for sure. Chloe's laid her heart out before. With Dan, with Cain. But now, it seems like it matters more than all the other times.

                          though  it’s  close - lipped ,  the  smile  that  graces  his  lips  is  wide  and  genuine  .  she  trusted  him  .  a  small  feat  ,  but  one  he  knew  he’d  fought  hard  for           and  tried  many  times  .  little  did  she  know  just  how  malleable  he  was  in  her  hands  .     ❛  i’ll  do  my  very  best  not  to  betray  it  . ❜      he  moves  to  turn  on  his  heel  ,  ready  to  charm  the  nurses  into  releasing  her  ,  when  he  notices  the  change  in  her  demeanor  .  his  joyous  expression  shifts  back  into  that  of  concern        brows  furrowed  ,  stance  stoic  but  ready  to  do  whatever  it  is  she  needed  .  he  wasn’t  prepared  for  her  to  admit  that  she’d  ended  up  in  this  hospital  bed  to  protect  him  .  expression  softens  ,  though  only  in  the  slightest  .  he  would  be  lying  if  he  said  that  her  confession  didn’t  leave  a  subtle  warmth  in  the  center  of  his  chest  .  

                           ❛  let  me  get  this  straight  then             ❜     he  takes  the  few  steps  between  himself  and  her  bed  before  bending  to  sit  just  at  the  edge  of  it  ,  his  hand  falling  atop  the  sheets  just  beside  hers  .     ❛  you  risked  your  life  because  you  were  afraid  that  i  would  be  the  one  that  ended  up  in  this  god  awful  bed  ?  ❜  though  it’s  said  with  humor  ,  lucifer  repeats  her  intent  as  a  means  of  understanding  it  .  how  similar  they  were  !  he’d  wished  she  had  waited  for  him  for  that  exact  reason  .     ❛  i  think  you  and  i  both  know  that  if  i  were  to  get  hurt  ,  my  own  ego  would  be  at  fault  .  ❜     that  hand  that  rests  atop  her  sheets  rises  to  lay  over  her  hand  ,  thumb  brushing  over  her  skin  gently  .     ❛  chloe          your  life  is  not  expendable  .   please  don’t  treat  it  as  such  out  of  fear  for  mine  .  ❜

                Well, when he said it like that, she supposes it sounded a little stupid. There's a sharp exhale as she looks up at him. However, Chloe's happy to see that his expression is soft. Not harsh or angry. The last thing needed was anyone upset with her. As tough as she claimed to be, that would be enough to break her emotionally. There's a little crinkle in her eyes as she smiles --- before she hears his last sentence, & it fades just a little.  ❝  You're right. My life isn't expendable. --- But neither is yours, Lucifer. & while it might be your ego that gets you shot, it'll only hurt if I'm there. & that? That's on me. I'll feel responsible. Because I'm just a cop. I'm just Chloe Decker, struggling to make it through the day. i'm just normal. & for some unknown reason, I ---  ❞   she takes a deep breath, then the next words come out in a whisper,    ❝  ---  I bring the devil to his knees. I'm the reason he can get hurt. & I'm not supposed to worry about you? Well, get used to it, Lucifer, because I'm going to stay worried.  ❞

                      the  expression  that  responds  to  her  own  is  one  of  confusion  ,  though  a  subtle  hint  of  anger  that  reflects  her  own  glints  in  his  eyes  .  his  words  were  not  meant  to  be  harsh  .  he  hadn’t  meant  to  evoke  this  reaction  .  but  he  had  absolutely  meant  what  he  said  .  could  she  see  how  impeccably  difficult  the  task  she  was  asking  of  him  was  ?  to  believe  more  of  himself  than  anyone  had  in  his  years  of  celestial  life  ?  his  gaze  drops  hers  if  only  for  a  moment  ,  fingers  busying  themselves  with  the  cuff link  that  wasn’t  out  of  place  .       ❛  maybe  we  are  ,  detective  .  ❜       it’s  said  without  eye  contact  ,  barely  a  murmur  on  his  lips  .       ❛  i  don’t  doubt  you  .  if  anything  ,  your                acceptance  of  everything  leaves  me  in  awe  of  you  .  ❜   it’s  a  somber  sort  of  smile  that  rises  pitifully  to  his  lips  .  it  doesn’t  stay  long  .  he  didn’t  discredit  her  belief  in  him  .  he  cherished  it  .  he  was  just  afraid  of  losing  it  .       ❛  the  way  that  you  feel  matters  more  than  anything  .  the  way  that  you  see  me  is                  honorable  ,  really  .  and  it  means  more  to  me  than  you  could  possibly  imagine  .  while  i’ve  never  lied  to  you  ,  chloe  ,  there  is  so  much  that  you  don’t  know  .  ❜

                Maybe we are, Detective. There's a blink, & her bright blue eyes suddenly seem cloudy. As if storm clouds were going to roll over into rain. Chloe turns on her heel, facing away from him as a stray tear falls. The tough cop wasn't going to give anyone the chance to see her cry. With another pause, she lets her hand come up & clear away the tear before turning back to him. There's a set line on her face.   ❝  & who said I wasn't listening, Lucifer? I would be more than willing to hear all of it, to learn it. But it sounds a lot like you're just giving up. --- If it mattered what I thought, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. ---  So that's just that? You're going to leave again? Then show up a couple months later married? Lucifer... I won't wait any longer. I can't keep waiting.  ❞

my hiatus has been a little longer than i expected . just had a lot going on , stress wise . i plan on being around tomorrow .

        headcanon   001.          chloe   +   fears

with chloe, all through out the seasons, she almost seems sort of fearless. she does what she has to do & she doesn’t think twice. but for chloe, it’s not a lack of fear, it’s the suppression of it. she pushes back the fear till it’s in the very back of her mind, till the voice telling her not to do it goes away : then she deals with it later after everything is done. in season 4, we see a lot of her being scared for the first time. first off, i’m going to unravel a lot of her thought processes here for everyone. first off, she was conflicted. in chloe’s mind, she’s been working with the devil for months. he was her friend, he was someone she was falling in love with. most importantly, to her, he was a good man. then she finds out & suddenly, she has all of history & humanity arguing with her about who he is. telling her that he’s a monster. then the fear is bred. some of it stems from seeing his real face, yes, but most of it stems from the fact she’s never thought about all this. religion is something that she never thought about much. her father was dead, her mother was busy most of the day. no one was really there to enforce it to her. it wasn’t lack of belief, it was the lack of knowledge. & now, she had a solid proof it was all real. it’s scary to a human. to know that in fact, there will be a day you will die & be judged. chloe was overwhelmed. at the end of it, it seemed like what she learned was her ultimate test of good vs bad, but just like in all of her cases ( & why she changes her mind & turns her back on father kinely ) she found out that her answer wasn’t so black & white. there was no right answer. just because lucifer fell… it didn’t mean he was bad. so she let herself dive in. she put aside her logic & she looked at everything for what it was. & now? the fear is gone.
