Doing some splits before the US Open 🥋

I’ll probably write a longer reflection post but for now I’ll just say that I scored a 5.55 which is my best score so far at a major competition. I didn’t make the cut to semifinals which went from 64 to 32. My competitors were amazing and mainly scored 6’s and 7’s. They had the highest side kicks I’ve ever seen!

I have a lot to learn and much more training to do. Next competition: state championship ✌🏽

The US Open is this Friday. My first pull is taebeck and koryo, which both have side kicks. I still need to work on locking (I’m pretty loosey goosey) but it’s much better than it has been.

There’s 62 in my division (18-30 Female Black Belt). This is only my second competition as a black belt, and it’s a pretty big one. My goal is to make the first cut (top 32) but I’ll be happy if I get a good score for me and don’t make any major errors. Sometimes you do your best and still lose, and that’s okay.

Also, while the US Open is the reason we’re going to Vegas, it’s not the main point of my trip. I’m taking my mom on a vacation (we leave today) and it’ll be nice to go on an adventure with her.

Anyway, sorry to my budoblr fam for not being as active around these parts! I’m still here. Still training. Still putting in the hours in the dojang. ✌🏽
