Chandler got into a tugging fight to hold onto the monkey and she tackled him to the ground and a cloud of dust appeared covering them almost censoring the violence that was taking place but Marcel came out of the cloud first monkey hoping back to Sterling. Chandler was crawled out of the cloud coughing. “Marcel! come back!” She begged but it was like she was invisible. Chandler rolled on her back and just laid there. 

“Noooo gosh darn it” This was what broke him.

“I was hoping for more of a challenge but okie.” She cracked up. “Forget it.” She shrugged it off. “If you’re going to give yourself CancE that’s one thing but don’t you dare!” She swooped up Marcel in her arms. “Indanger this poor little monkey. Ya know what me and  marcel are gone.” She grabbed the bowl of water and splashed it on his cigarette. “I want you around for a long time please don’t be like my dad.” She said to Sterling and took Marcel out of the booth and began walking out of the junkyard with him. “It’s gunna be okie.” She told the monkey cradling it.

He couldn’t believe it he was free. “Just so you know the monkey goes where the monkey wants. No one owns him…” He watched them walk away. “He owns them.” He said under his breath and then rejoiced he was gone.

“Ya know I can not- not accept a dare.” she loved challenges of all sorts it entertained here. “What’s your fancy? Italian? Mexican? southern? Greek?” She was already making a menu cause that’s what she does. “Are you a convict?” omg she was roofieing herself. “From one owl to another noted.” She looked at the water sitting still in the bowl and thought he would drink it later. “That makes sense but I have access to the coffee at all times, I mean I live in that Bakery. “Yea…” She looked at the time. “You want a drink?” She said pulling wine out of her smart girl backpack and taking a swig of it straight from the bottle. Her lips smacked off of the glass bottle and she let out a sighs, “When I’m dehydrated I don’t think about much else of anything. Other than my lips sticking to my gums. Before this trick I had alcohol for boo-boos and would swish it straight in my mouth but that was before I found out Listerine works better but that’s when I was a preteen. I’m a woman now.” she nods fully believing she was adulting.  “Here!” She said all excited giving him the bottle.

“He cut her off. “spaghetti.” He he nodded. “ No I’m a juvenile I can only be charged with Barney the dinosaur.” He said sarcastically. “Have some self control yah?” He was addicted to coffee too. “What the hell does any of that have to do with anything?” Her stories were strangely lacking in cohesiveness. “Nah thanks I don’t like being incapacitated in public it makes one vulnerable. I just smoke.” Marcel came by and took a toke off sterlings cigarette.

Chandler took it to heart and it made her so sad to hear his reply be so intense. “I’ll feed you anytime.” She touched his shoulder sincerely. “What…” She was wondering if she should feel uncomfortable now. Was rape going to creep up behind her any second now? “Is there a saying about auto shops that result in rapey time? I don’t understand.” She looked  confused at him was he asking her status? “I’m clean.” She nods. “Are you clean? I do drink coffee but not enough apparently.” she laughed thinking she was funny. “Sometimes I listen to sad songs… about not making it to Graduation day.”  She looked over at him. “On repeat.”

“Oh yeah put your money where my mouth is then we’ll see if you mean that. But I dont owe you nothin’ tho that’s on your time and decision but I dare you.” He finished the banana split casserole. “sweet.” He poured water in the bowl and left it for the junkyard cats. “Nah I don’t guess but I’d be careful roofieing yourself and then going into male convict dominated places. Just a word to the wise.” He nods slowly. “Maybe stop with the coffee so you can sleep not drink more though but it’s your life do what you want I don’t care.” She was weird. “Well I mean at least that’s an achievable dream.” He shrugged. “And it’s always an option so.” He didn’t know if he made that better or worse or if he was trying to make it either one.

“Ok, Who starved you?” she had taken a few classes on what ever you take class for to identify behavioral issues and UHBu$e. “No! It was just sleeping pills. I can’t sleep some times. Most times. Can you?” 

“Who fed me?” Not his mommy Milky that was for sure. He never shared these things but at this point she felt like a distant enough stranger that he didn’t care cause she’d never look into it or bring it back around to him.  “You came to the auto shop and took sleeping pills then when you managed to not get raped you decided that wasn’t risky enough so you drove out of here? Have you been tested?” For retardation. “Na not reallie, but lately it’s been better than usual so I can’t conplain… bout that anyway.” He let her stay cause food. “Do you drink too much coffee or something… PTSD.”

“Thought I’d find you hard at work, ya silly goose.” Chandler showed up at the junkyard. “I made this banana split casserole to say thank you both. Don’t worry it’s paper bowl ready so you can dig right in.” She grinned a little embarrassed Sterling had seen her mess up in life. “I just wanna let you know I appreciate your friendship and for showing up at the hospital. I don’t normally mess up like that. To be honest I was taking some medications that I shouldn’t have been operating motor objects.” Chandler stuck a fork in the bowl and took a bit of Sterlings casserole. “Let’s see how I did.. yumo-yummm. What do ya think?” She asked Marcel feeding him a bite next.

Food.” He was a joey but not in the kangaroo Neal way. He took the bowl from them. “I only tell once the rest of the time you get the fork in your hand.” he took a bite. “This tastes like Emmits smelled.” Maraschino cherries kissing always did that to him. “You on drugs?” He asked chandler and pulled marcel close in case she was a monkey selling druggie and drugged Sterling with banana so she could take the monkey.

How do you last longer in the bedroom?” She knew Andie had been working on that using her photo.

“Yea, but Marcel likes me don’tcha.” She pet him. “ I guess I’ll be seeing ya around.” She said and got in her moms jeep and began to drive but fell asleep and flipped it on it’s top in a ditch. Marcel tugged on Sterling and pointed up the road. He already heard the crash but Marcel wanted Sterling to know he had nothing to do with stabbing her in the back just yet. Marcel called for help via video chat.

Chandler arrived at the hospital unconscious and Delancey was called and worried terribly about her daughter so worried she called preacher Brad. “Thank god your here.”  No pun intended tho. Delancey said and greeted Connie as well cause she also came with preacher Brad. Leading them to Chandler’s room.

Connie spoke up, “You can  go eat you something sweetie.” She handed her a brown bag of food from waffle house that had cold waffle fries but Delancey didn’t care cause she had been there for hours and was getting hangry.  “Thanks Miss Connie.” She said taking the bag and sitting outside Chandler’s room in the hall to eat.

Little did Dalancey know that the preacher, Andrew and Connie was already at the hospital when she called because Andrew was getting his medical things taking care of. “You gonna come in here with us?” She asked Andrew knowing he and Chandler had written letters to each other and this may have been a good thing for the little girl to know she had support here. Kids support other kids.” She looked at him. “It’s up to you.” She said going into Chandler’s room with Brad and praying over her to wakeup.

As Connie walked in sterling stood up. “Oh.” He walked out with Marcel on his shoulder.

Andie thought who was that? As sterling left. Andie was standing out side the door and waved hi from his hip to Delancey as he looked down just because it was weird not to when they were going to be out there together alone or so he thought. His mother surprised him as she spoke and he nodded with glossy calf “(Veal if you will) eyes and slowly went into the room with them but cautiously because honestly his mind started to run through other reasons they’d like him in for like to tell he and Chandler this was what happened when they sinned together using the USPS. He walked up to her bedside as they prayed and he looked her over for marks from the accident. “Is she gonna be okay?” He ask in a low soft whisper and brushed her hair away from the mark on her forehead.

Angry toad? she couldn’t understand the definition in which way he was translating. “Thanks Angry munchkin. By the way I told get angry I get furious.” She thought she was bad. Chandler took half of a sleeping pill she stole a months worth from him before she left but was doing her best to ration them cause whether she believed it or not she was becoming addicted. Hoping the pill would almost be active in her system when she was home.

“You work pretty fast.” She said taking the key back. ”But only time will tell if your work is any count.” She paid him in cash.  “Don’t call me that. And stop smoking you’re gonna die of canC like my father but not because he smoke, he’s actaully still alive bit anyway canC is exactly that canC. It’s not romance.” she looked in the background seeing a monkey. “What the– is that a monkey?” She became distracted by the little monkey and time went by and her pill began to take effect. “I-uh…hope we’re friends.” She said to Rogers feeling baby-lima bean not sure if she meant the monkey or him or both.

“Yeah? Bet.” He rolled his eyes.

“Work smarter not harder last longer in the bedroom you know what they say.” He listened to her sermon. “Ah Thanks I didn’t know you were a preacher with all that preacher and your speech impediment you can’t say R’s apparently. Make up your mind are you a poet or a pope with that preaching and rhyming.” He took the ash and pocketed it for himself after the windshield expense.” He turned around confused and looked down. “Ah no you don’t wanna be friends with Marcel he’s a back stabber.” He spoke of the monkey.

“That’s what they’re for…to call when you need them.” What rock was this little gym monkey slumbering under. Chandler was however relived he put out the fire. Chandler didn’t know what Billy Joel was so she assumed he was right. “I know.” She agreed. “Yeah be quiet!” She said a little too loud but hoped the both could agree that this mut needed to zip it. “Uhm!” She had to grasp onto the strap of her crossbody cause she felt the rage. “I know you’re not talking to me like that. Just do your job. I need to get back home before I’m caught.”  she was feeling like an almost ripened baby-pineapple head towards this munchkin man.

“Don’t yell at inky.” He was serious. Sterling could have kicked her out and made her take her broken windshield with her but he’d rather have the money and something funny happen to her.  “Sure thing angry toad.” He wished she was a frog he could throw out in front of a vehicle in the rain. “Just a sec.” He took it in the garage and took pics of the mail in the sun-visor and anything he could to sell the identity of her mother just to be annoying. While he was at it he messed her spark plugs up and unscrewed her gas cap half way and set the engine light to come on for no reason and the tire pressure low. All untraceable back to him. “A-Kay done there you go tuts.”

Chandler yawns even tho she was sleepy she could never sleep. “If you say so.” She watched him take a huge drag and her eyes widened. “Don’t do that!” She said swiftly swiping his lit cigarette from his hand and to the ground which just happened to have gasoline to ignite a bigger issue. “Ahh! Shit! sorry. Shit!” She wasn’t familiar with the area so how could she help? “Should I call the fire dept?” she hoped she wouldn’t go to jail. “Look what you made me do.” She watched as he was working to put the fire out. “Are you mad at me? I don’t blame you.. I would be too. You ok?”

Sterling moved away from her as she grabbed at him him not knowing what she was doing till she grabbed his cigarette and started a fire. “You can’t play Billy Joel on this one it you did start it.” He used the fire extinguisher to put the fire out. “No never call them I mean who wants to pay for that?” A moment passed and inky barked at the smoke. “shh shut up inkey.” He shook his head. “Are you retarded?” He asked Chandler.

Chandler did manage to drive her mother’s car to the body/junk shop and it felt crazy good to feel reckless with her safety and breaking her curfew. Chandler parked the car seeing the headlights on bright reflecting off the rude little guy. “Wasn’t sure if you’d still be here Rogers…“ It was late and she had waited till her mom fell asleep . Chandler scanned his work area for those damn coffee pots. “I brought you some muffins and donuts. Perks of working in a bakery.” He looked hungry and greasy. “You still got time to fix the crack in my shield?”

“ yuh it’s still night isn’t it?” He wiped his hands on a dirty what use to be white rag and put it back into his back pocket and pulled out a cigarette and lit it. “Sweet.” He said taking the brown bag from her before he said anything else cause he was keeping the treats regardless. He takes a long drag off his cigarette looking over at the cracked windshield and nods as he exhales. “Should. What’s the model? You got the money yet?”

This little guy had poor customer service skills. “Ok-uh-well enjoy your confidence and your coffee.” He clearly made zero commitments to his customers. “Let me hold the door for you.” She wanted to watch him struggle balancing two coffee pots and a drink tray all the way to his vehicle. “See you when I get off work.” She just wanted to say it cause it sounded like they were going to hangout.

“I didn’t ask. I don’t like being indebted to people even in the slightest.” He made it known it was against his will. He held the drink tray coffee pots and managed to still light a cigarette and put it in his mouth to smoke while opening the door to his white mustang. “O’kay…..”

“I wouldn’t recommend that would be like drinking canCe.” She disliked smoking as much as abnormal cells.

Ma’am? she thought to herself and pointed at her name tag, “Chandler,” She said following the tag with her finger. Wow no one really was as observant as she. “Yes, I know just let me worry about the costs. We don’t have gallon containers at the moment…But what I will do…” She grabbed two coffee pots and put foil over them to hopefully prevent spillage. “You can bring those back when you bring the car back tonight, yeh?” She said placing the keys on the counter for him to take.

“Oh you work nights? well maybe bring it back in the morning I guess…or even better I’ll come pick it up and the empty pots assuming you drowned out the lonely night with all that coffee.” She didn’t have a license but maybe she could get the car home by herself cause she wanted to do this for her mom to show she was indeed growing into a responsible lady fixing her mistakes unlike others she knew. “By the way I didn’t ever think you carried around windshields.” She laughed small. “That would be like a dentist carrying around a drill.” She looked at him in an awkward eye scanning action and exhaled from holding her breath after she took in his appearance and thought This guy could be a bounty hunter or a hamster hunter….imagine the little weapon and tiny ammunition he’d have to take them out with. Chandler laughed out loud and it made her look like she wasn’t right in the head. “Cool deal.”

This girl was weird. “I didn’t know America didn’t have labor laws.” He said under his breath while she rambled.

“I don’t care.” What her name was. “I am because the only person paying for it is you or it don’t get done. No Cash no Glass.” He wanted payment before he even looked at it. “whatever.” He said holding to coffee pots covered with aluminum foil. “Yeah I’m not leaving my car here over night  and I have to have a way to get to and from where i’m going so just bring it when your shift ends and we’ll get it done or we won’t.” He was annoyed. “Of course you didn’t.” He didn’t give a shit what she thought about dentists or windshields. “Cool.” He let it go cause obviously she was a kid with a mental condition sterling grabbed his things and left to buddy and guy’s auto and junkyard.

“Don’t yell.” She said in her repetitive whiney tone seeing him go upstairs.

Chandler’s attention returned to back to her work as she heard the door chime. “You ordered over the phone right?” She said seeing his name ‘Rogers’ on his uniform and She smiled proud because she was so observant. “You don’t want any sugar or cream?” It was so gross when they drank coffee black but then again maybe that’s why guys were so hairy.

“From the looks of your uniform i’d say you could possibly help me out of a little trouble…” She pointed behind him at the broken windshield in her mothers car that Chandler herself had put there. “Please Rogers?” She said it like she knew this guy. “ Besides I did that to my moms car and I wanna fix it. I’ll pay.” She said buying the three coffees in the drink carrier with her tip money that she recklessly stored in her blue apron.

Sterling didn’t know who this chick was and he was weary of her. “I dunno Guy done it.” He spoke with depressed vocalfry. “No you could soak cigarettesbutts in hot water and they’d probably drink aet, but so would I.” Sterling took a tissue out of the free tissue box and put in in his pocket.

“Huh?” He looked oblivious and like he couldn’t care. “Ma’am It has to be at the shop I just don’t carry windshields around with me.” He rolled his eyes low key. “You know it will cost more than coffee right? Plus it was supposed to be a gallon of coffee I work through most of the night so hop to ya know I don’t like being late or waiting.” Oh and Rodger wasn’t his name but he wasn’t going to tell her that she was already acting like she knew him.

Passed the chatter and roaring sound of the party and Neal bantering with the people around the punch bowl as he spiked it was another story the branched off, a path, or a Layne if you will. Sterling Lane that is. at the same party where Pigs lost their porking virginity’s and exchange students hoped to get lucky with or at the very least get the underwear of american girls that just lost their bacon blankies was a brooding Jewish boy that like-no LOVES spaghetti but seemingly hated everyone else. Sterling was graduating 12th grade at 16 this year with scholarships he'd never use because he’d never be able to pay after the first year was over not that’s he knew what he’d want to use them for anyway.
