Simon was 1000% killing people before Filament Station. It's a death cult. Whether that be for ritual purposes in a closed environment, or actual fighting, this was heavily implied.

One thing I find really funny is how no one in coltlandgentry fics ever acknowledges that Court looks exactly like the twins (barring some minor design differences). Like, yeah, twins being identical makes sense, but a singleton older brother too? Absolutely bizarre.
So I'd like to propose a Sierra brothers au where they're all actually clones of the first Sierra (maybe another Gosling character? Noah from The Notebook being an exceptional soldier in WWII so they use his DNA for cloning? Idk) and were created each with different skill sets to be expert agents. But then their handler (aka, their "dad" as they pose as a normal family) gets too violent in training and Court decides his brothers' safety is more important than whatever the agency had planned, so he shoots him and tells the boys to run. He gets taken back into the Sierra program, and his MIA brothers get picked up by CPS and put into foster care. Neither Colt nor Ryland were old enough to be aware of the program, or that they and their vaguely-remembered imprisoned older brother are clones.
This would be wild, someone should write it (it wont be me).

While Grace is teaching the Eridians, he mentions how important socialization and pack bonding is for humans. Humans require a community to thrive and get depressed if they're left alone, so it's best to keep them in groups. However humans can pack bond with anything, and Grace is very close to the Eridians, so he's okay.
The Eridians misunderstand him, and proceed to panic because they only have one human. They only have one human but it turns out you need to keep them in packs. They can die if they're isolated for to long and they can't let Grace die this is bad bad bad.
So they send a message to earth, asking if anybody would be willing to volunteer to live on Erid with Grace. They stress that while this is a life or death matter, they need the human to be a willing participant. That all of their needs and wants would be met and that the Eridians would give Earth information and technology in exchange. The volunteer would be given a life of luxury in exchange for living on Erid with Grace.
Unfortunately, there is a mistranslation, and the humans think that the Eridians require a sacrifice otherwise they will use their resources against earth. In order to avoid a possible interstellar war with an alien species, they choose a convict who has a life sentence to be locked in a bare rocket and blasted off to Erid.
That is how Simon, the only survivor of his religious extremist cult, ended up on the SM-13 headed to an alien planet against his will.
It would be great if this is how they solve the food situation. Sumon smuggles a buncha seeds with him, or maybe Ava smuggled them with him, because she feels guilty like Eva did and since Simon's people were so plant themed, she just gave him a ton of fruits and flowers and a crop or two as a halfhearted apology because someone had to be sacrificed.
And, it's much the same as canon, where Simon thinks it's a deal, do a simple but dangerous job for us and then you'll be freed. The Eridians are weak to radiation, and a fuck-off powerful x-ray coul do a lot of damage. But then he figures out this is a one-way trip: it's not a mission, it's an execution. So he gets his screaming, crying "I want to live. Why am I the only one who wants that?". And then he gets closer to Erid than Earth and they contact him, and he learns that, actually, he does get his freedom, and they don't get their execution. And would you look at that, he's brought human food for the human vivarium.
And then whatever slowburn or whirlwind romance happens
Ryland thinks he's fine, that permanently being with people on one side of a glass window is enough to keep his sanity. But physical touch is important, and while being able to talk to and interact with the Eridians did keep him sane, it is negatively affecting his physical health.
So when someone does show up, a living person he can and does touch, Ryland breaks down without understanding why. His body has held this tension in it ever since he woke up alone, that hasn't been able to release even at his most relaxed and with his best friend. Because touch is important. Literally just clapping a guy on his shoulder or holding a hand makes Ryland ugly cry.
Ryland doesn't know what's going on.
Rocky knows though.
Ryland has lied to him before, specifically lied about not dying and then lied about being fine with dying, and then crying and needed a hug when he learned he wasn't dying. So Rylan told the truth, he was dying of loneliness, and then lied that it was fine and he wasn't dying so Rocky and the other Eridians didn't get sad, and now, Ryland is just happy he gets to live more. Perfect sense. Rocky understand.
Simon doesn't know what the fuck is going on, but if he gets to live and be free, he'll hug whoever he has to. He'll cry a bit too, but when he can find somewhere private.
