ooohh this white man and his weak heart
k but imagine Rocky wanting to learn about how humans became the apex predators of their planet so he has Grace “hunt” him in the biodome as an experiment and during it he thinks Grace isn’t trying or taking it seriously which is bad bad bad because this is for research purposes
only for Rocky to get more and more tired as the experiment goes on just to realize that Grace isn’t which makes him panic so he puts as much distance as he can between them and finds a (hopefully) safe spot to sleep and when he wakes up the human is crouching over him like “got youuu” and Rocky has never shrieked so damn loud before in his life
1:39:25 you can hear Simon snapping someone's neck and them pleading for him to stop, as he grips and twists the Iron Lung's lever, by the way.
If I see any more notable whumpy time stamps, I'll make this a reblog chain.
EDIT: The previous timestamp had an error. I have dyslexia. I am so sorry. It's fixed! I got my 6 and 9 flipped. 😭
Prev.
I will personally vouch for your argument.
Simon was 1000% killing people before Filament Station. It's a death cult. Whether that be for ritual purposes in a closed environment, or actual fighting, this was heavily implied.
Simon was a child soldier. It's so obvious. They literally- they have a scene where it's right there.
You didn't misinterpret shit.
Also, hey... I recognize your name...
YOU'RE THE AUTHOR OF LEFTOVER LIGHT ??? DID YOU KNOW. DID YOU KNOW THAT'S MY FAVORITE BLOODYMARY FIC.
You're on my fic recs page! Good shit. If you ever have lore questions about Simon or need help interpreting things, NEVER hesitate to shoot me an ask!
Mayday! by Sparkbird was made for Ryland Grace. You agree.
any thoughts on simon's tattoo scar?? do u think it's from when he was arrested or some time after??
Simon's Scar
Note: This is speculation.
Simon was in COI custody for a little while, it seems, judging from the way he talks about them like he's gotten much more acquainted with them than he ever wanted to.
His phrasing here is what trips me up. It's not, "they burned it off," it's "they made me burn it off." <- Note the word "BURN" as well.
This is a really freakin' bad hypertrophic or keloid scar resulting from a poorly-treated burn. A neck injury like this is incredibly dangerous, especially in a resource-scarce world. That is way too close to Simon's jugular. It's indicative of how reckless or forced the act was.
If the Consolidation of Iron (COI) had done it to him as torture or an official branding, it likely would have been much more uniform. The COI is nothing if not militantly-strict in the way they do things. This scar seems the opposite of that.
At some point between Filament Station and the expedition, they sat Simon down and had him take it off, most likely in some cruel version of "pledging" against Eden. If you consider the physical nature of the burns, they seem rushed, unsteady, and don't even cover the tattoo all the way; I can only assume self-inflicted and quick. Just enough to get by.
Note the angle. If you reach up to your own neck right now and lay your finger across the opposite side of it, it's at a slightly-upward, crooked angle. Looks like Simon reaching around in the same manner with something hot.
I initially assumed this scar was from perhaps a hot knife, but the way the lines curve make me think otherwise. The tool would need to get super-heated quickly, be easily accessible in an industrial/engineering environment, not a straight-edge, and also be handheld/small enough to jab under the jaw. My bet?
Soldering iron.
The COI is cruel.
P.S. I have an entire scene in Chapter 7 of Terminal Lucidity dedicated to watching Simon be forced to burn his tattoo off at gunpoint with a soldering iron, for people who love pain.
Thanks for the ask!
you don't even have a dog
Simon finally feeling safe on the Hail Mary, finally letting himself believe that this isn't some kind of trick from the Eel, or the COI, or whatever God that may be watching. Finally believing that Grace really does want him safe, and happy, and alive.
Grace seeing this, finally feeling like Simon is stable enough to see the Greenhouse. I mean, the guy had a breakdown over the screen room, Grace was not going to risk his reaction to REAL PLANTS until he was sure Simon could handle it.
Grace excitedly leading Simon towards the Greenhouse. Opening the door. Watching for Simon's reaction, hopeful, but knowing it could be too much.
And it finally hits Simon.
Not relief. Not awe at the greenery, the abundance of life.
His purpose.
What else are plants meant to feed upon?
guess who wrote a 3000 word fanfic about this!
Simon focused on the view. So many stars. They were beautiful, and he was happy they'd be the last thing he'd see.
"I'm ready." Simon whispered into the still air. The combing stopped, and Simon mourned the loss immediately.
"You can kill me now."
Space guys
Now that Iron Lung is on YouTube I feel an inexplicable amount of joy upon seeing the previously blurry gifs of Simon now shot in crystal clarity
It’s like I’ve put on my glasses and the world sharpens I love it so much
Dr Ryland grace: *comes back to earth and is revealed to have been alive just living on erid for the past like 40 years*
ogh i hate him omg i love his stupid little adhd bounce
He’s so cute when he’s not losing his mind
happy pride month btw lmfao
People bullied me for being an ADHD Simon truther... well well well.
I have posts mentioning Simon seemingly being stuck in a hyperactivity mindset, along with some other traits taken on from Markiplier:
Platonic Bloodymary ideas mentioning Simon's ADHD habits
More Platonic Bloodymary ideas mentioning Simon struggling with education
Simon having Markiplier's traits (Including ADHD)
Me Getting Bullied About the Above Post in 4K Super Resolution
Fact of the matter is: Simon is played by Markiplier. There's no getting out of a "similar mannerisms" scenario. Homeboy FOR SURE has at the very least ADHD-like traits.
It's also a well-known and common symptom of prolonged stress to make you twitchy. Could be both, here!
So obviously it’s a running joke about Grace not knowing he was basically Stratts no.2, he gave orders and tasks, approved designs and procedures outside of his team (yes in the book he had his own team of scientists) and he still didn’t piece it together.
But,
What interests me about this is, he has power right? He leads people and he gives orders- a lot nicer than Stratt and with more patience but he’s shown to get incredibly competitive and well bitchy right? And he kind of puts a barrier between others and Stratts bluntness, the comedic relief, the reassurance of “you’ll get used to it.”
He tries to comfort people who are obviously caught off guard or effected by Stratt’s attitude and actions.
What if they are both having a bad day though? What if they are both in a sour mood, something went wrong and they are in a funk- how would that possibly look?
Grace isn’t a saint, he can still have negative emotions and interactions with people and is willing to argue with people and so can Stratt but she just kind of tells people how it’s going to go and them complying will just be less embarrassing on their end.
I’d imagine they’d both have NASTY resting bitch faces.
If Stratt isn’t laughing, it’s okay she doesn’t do that,
If Grace isn’t laughing either, oh no you fucked up.
Idk if I was on that boat and I saw that they were both in a bad mood… I’d probably jump off tbh.
Grace would probably use the teacher argument and say he gets more cooperation and useful information from 12 year olds.
And Stratt would do the Miranda and hit you with the “That’s all.” and dismiss you like you’re just water in the vase ocean they are traveling in.
I need to see this scenario play out from other characters perspectives because that’s where all the comedy is.
Edit: IMAGINE IF GRACE KNEW AS MANY LANGUAGES AS STRATT DID, THEY WOULD TALK SHIT ABOUT YOU AND YOU WOULDN’T EVEN BE ABLE TO PROVE IT. But deep down you know.
in the face of an apocalypse, you do what you have to do.
Grace arriving on Erid: "So I know i'm an alien and your scientists are probably like super curious about me, I just want to say you can totally do minor, noninvasive experements on me provided you run them by me first. You can totally take like hair and nail and blood samples, i'm willing to run a maze of two, everyone's been super polite in not asking for anything but I promise im not offended. Are you sure you don't want a blood sample? I swear i'm fine with it, want to scan my eyes and brain activity while I look at different colors? Heck pretty much anything short of flat out vivisection is on the table for discussion here. Please experement on me I really want to know what you find out."
The Eridian Governments: wtf WTF wtF???
The Eridian Scientists: *celebrating like they've won the intersteller lottery*
THREE MONTHS LATER
Grace, showing the beginning signs of appendicitis and clutching a bottle of local anesthetic: "Soooo, about what I said before about vivisection being off the table. . ."
YouTube giving me BloodyMary without knowing. 🥰
