You weren’t expecting to meet someone like Byounggon— ever. Or ever associate with someone like him. Byounggon was the school’s so-called “badass” or baddie. He never did his homework, had that intimidating look, and that sort of vibe, you could say.
It was Saturday night, the night where most teens stay up or go and party. But you were coming home from a study session with your friend, Dahyun. You were still parked in Dahyun’s driveway, texting your mom to let her know you might be arriving late for dinner. You set your phone down, turning your engine on.
You heard heavy footsteps that were quick, running to your car. You looked to your side and to your surprise you found a boy there— that boy soon opening your door then jumping into the seat. He breathed heavily before locking the car doors and ducking down to hide.
“What are you—”
The boy’s hand came up and covered your mouth, a finger coming over his lips to signal you to be quiet. You widened your eyes before slapping his hand down, “please get out of my car!” Police sirens grew louder, driving past your car. You held your breath, your face heating up, “don’t tell me you’re a murderer.”
“Oh, baby, I’m worse.” He breathed out, chuckling afterwards. Once all of the police cars had passed, he got into your passenger seat. “A rapist…?”
“Oh, my god— no, no— never! That was a joke, I’m Byounggon.”
“Oh… Well, I’m Y/N. Now do you mind telling me why the, um… cops were chasing you?” That’s how you met Byounggon. He grew on you eventually and the two of you were considered friends— best friends… stronger than best friends-ish? Sort of the stage where the two know they like each other but they’re both wimps and don’t ask each other out and still act like the jolly pair of besties. That’s the correct way to say it.
It was currently lunch time and you decided to spend lunch with Byounggon instead of your other friends. There were some… stares sent your way and a few glares apparently… odd. The two of you were discussing his reputation. You didn’t think Byounggon was a bad boy— well, compared to the rest of his friends. “I mean you’re not a bad boy, you just— don’t do school work? Or anything you’re assigned to do. And you have a cool motorbike and extremely attractive looks and— and an intimidating bitch face.” You told Byounggon, taking a bite of your sandwich. Byounggon raised his eyebrows, “excuse me?”
“I just don’t think you’re truly a bad boy, Ggon.” Byounggon ran a hand through his hair, nodding his head, “what do you mean by that?”
“It’s just… if people really knew you, I guess, you’re a softie.” He blushed and shook his head, “yeah, no— that’s a fat no. I’m not soft for anyo—”
“Ouchie.” You whimpered, pulling your hand to your chest. “Oh, my goodness, are you okay, baby?” He rushed out, grabbing your hand as gently as possible. You laughed and smacked his hand away, “you are most definitely soft, Byounggon. Now let me finish eating my sandwich.” He huffed and played with his fingers, “I was just afraid you were hurt, okay?” You gave him that look and he immediately stopped talking.
“Hey, Byounggon! Over here!“ You heard his friend yell for him. You turned your head to see Hyunsuk, chuckling at how short he looked. Byounggon looked at you, "is it ok—”
“Yeah, it’s fine, don’t worry!” He smiled at you before leaning over to kiss your forehead, “I’ll give you a ride home, okay?” You nodded and took another bite of your sandwich, waving him off.
“I’m exhausted.” You mumbled to Jihoon, getting up from your seat then fixing your skirt. “Well, atleast you get to go home right away, I have to help with the musical today.” You pouted and patted the top of his head, “sad. Bye bye!” You rushed away from Jihoon and made your way to the front of the school to wait for Byounggon. You bit your lip while looking around for him.You got out your phone, sighing then dialing his number. “Pick up, you id—” You felt an arm begin to snake around your waist, a sigh of relief leaving you. You turned around, “Byoungg—” You gasped once you turned around to face Kai. Kai, probably the school’s biggest fuckboy— also the boy who almost took your virginity… life’s tough, man.
“What the hell, Kai!” You exclaimed, smacking his arm. “Woah, woah, calm down. I just want to talk.”
“That’s what you said last time and I almost lost my fucking virginity, leave me alone.” He rolled his eyes, “can you just listen?”
“She said to leave, bud.” Byounggon told him, ruffling his hair as he stood next to you. Kai scoffed, “as if I’ll listen to you. I need to talk to her, not you.” Somewhere, sometime in his moment of speaking, Kai’s hand has caught onto your wrist and you swear you could hear Byounggon growl. Byounggon tugged you closer to him, if that was even possible, giving Kai a death glare. “I dare you to touch her again.” Your eyes widened along with Kai’s. Kai’s hand slipped away from your wrist, quickly scurrying off afterwards.
“Byounggon, let’s leave.” You mumbled to him, grabbing his hand and rushing over to his car. The two of you got in, Byounggon, for some reason, heavily breathing. “What was that?” You asked him, looking over at him. He shook his head, locking the doors and starting the car engine, “don’t want to talk.” You scoffed, “Byounggon, what was that?” He turned to look at you, “nothing! Nothing, okay? I’m just a guy protecting his friend.” You gulped and looked down at your lap, playing with your fingers. “Yeah… Sorry.”
Just a guy protecting his friend.
You got out of his car, putting your backpack back on then slamming his door. Byounggon gave you a look before exiting his car as well. “Y/N, what’s wrong?” He questioned you, following you as you entered your house. You inhaled deeply, shaking your head, “nothing.”
“Something’s wrong, I can sense it.”
“We’re not just friends and you know that!” You yelled, your eyes landing upon Byounggon. He gasped at your sudden outburst, taking a step back away from you. You looked at him with glossy eyes, “you can’t act like my boyfriend and then say we’re just friends because we both know we’re more than that.”
“Y/N, I—”
“I don’t need a stupid explanation. I’m sick of being just a friend to you when I’ve obviously given you my heart and trust.” He frowned as he looked down at his hands. “So until you stop being such a wimp and ask me out, don’t expect me to treat you any differently than anyone else.” There was a silence for a while until Byounggon cleared his throat, taking a few steps closer to you while his arms opened up. You took a moment to reconsider your decisions before you stepped into his arms, your head laying on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry for playing with your feelings and making you believe one thing then making you lose your hope. I love you, you know that, but I’m scared if we make things official, I’ll lose you.”
“You could never, you know that.” You mumbled into his shirt, sniffling afterwards. “Yeah… I’ve just been such an idiot, I guess. I’m sorry I couldn’t do this sooner or in a more romantic way, but could you please be my girlfriend?” You pulled away from the hug, nodding your head while a small smile spread across your face, “of course I will.”
“I love you so much, baby.” Byounggon muttered, kissing the top of your head.
“Mhm, I love you too, wimp.”
“I’m not a wimp!”
