hey everypony i just read Death Of The Woman by dolphin diaries on substack; it's her personal essay on her life as a detrans woman, including living for a decade as a trans man prior to her detransitioning, and I think whatever notions you might have about the words I just said should be chucked out of the freakin' window!!!! Instead of making knee-jerk assumptions, go read the essay!!! Because I really liked it and I think she's got an important perspective on these things <3 I think my favorite bit has to be

"Never before have I experienced such utterly shameless, sincere, and carnal fanfare for everyone and anyone who claimed the space of ‘woman,’ in such a way that ‘woman’ meant nothing more and nothing less than simply ‘human.’ Not for statements. Just because it made them happy. It was as alien as it was beautiful. [...] Except that some of it is real. Not the cyborgs and werewolves, but the diversity of body; the desire for its freedom and customisation. Women discontent with taking simply what they’re given. Through acquaintance and anecdote, I met lesbians with the same ‘unnatural’ desire I’d had. yeah :) I did also read Who Gets To Talk About Detransition? the other day by the same author (it's the first post in her archive) and I think you should read that too, because I think that what she has to say has relevance for all people, and actually is like ... rather trans affirming/encouraging towards getting that bag (transitioning).

that said commoner surnames if they exist might be dependent on location or the father's* first name. *doesn't always have to be the dad but since they live in androcentric kingdom it's more likely to be

Wait fuck before I forget. I think Percy was actually perhaps hanging out more frequently with Val during The Penance Sickly Era (i.e. Val 18-20). Which. One more person for Val to be extra cautious about re: "do not. Find out. I hang out with the commoners." And Percy would be nosy too (not in an ill-intentioned way, just in a "well I have to look out for you -_-" way) so Val is sweating out here.

But yeah it makes sense Basil sent Percy to visit or whatever. He'd look sus to even a diseased Penance if he was hanging around Val himself but Penance likes Percy so it's received in a better light.
