The Search Begins
She’d spent days in a sort of trance, every moment like a waking dream. The thought of her team, her fellow Spartans making it off Reach, and alive at that, brought an emotion she had been hard pressed to feel these last months; hope. Jorge was alive, Six too. It was the thought of finding Jun and Em, Carter… Finding her squad after all this time and heartache, though she’d never admit to it aloud that had her hacking into all files with Reach involved. For days Kat holed up and away in search of mention, clues to where her boys were. And she would stop at nothing to find them.

"Like I said, Galactic Republic. Speaking of armor, what exactly are you wearing? And what happened to your arm?”
"MJOLNIR Mark V, standard gear for Noble Team. Most Spartans now too, although we were the exception. My arm was lost in combat. A reminder of my failures as it were. I suppose your.. Galactic army brought you here?"
"Grand Army of the Republic. GAR. Spartans, you said?" Hmm…I know that sounds familiar…now that I think about it so does that armor… "They didn’t exactly bring me here, so much as they just paid the bill-I’m here on my own, actually. As for your arm, it doesn’t mean you failed. I have a brother in the GAR, he lost both his hands working as an EOD tech, and now he’s one of the best damn ramikade I’ve ever seen.”
Kat simply nodded, less then willing to divulge of the specifics about the incedent. “I had no knowlege of other forces in the area. Nor have I seen any reports of you, a commando, or this GAR of yours to be honest,” she drawled, unhappy with the thought of being leas then informed.
"Join the club, ner vod. I’ve never heard of Spartans, Mjolnir, or the UNSC until I met you. Though I will say that your armor looks somewhat like another girl’s I met…her codename was Agent Colorado. We were aboard the Necesity. Erm, the Mother of Invention.”
"Agent Colorado? Can’t say I’ve heard of her, though the state designation does ring a bell." She’d never met soliders outside the USNC, or the Covenant for that matter, and she had no real reason to. You were either an enemy or an ally; there was no in betwren in this war. "You have no alliance with the Covenant then?
"Covenant? Ah, no. Never heard of them-what’re they some sort of religious terrorist group?"
If she'd been a more expressive person, there would have been a sigh of relief; as it was she simply nodded minutely. "They are an alien army, under the control and leadership of Hierarchs and Prophets, both of which led the unifaction multiple species. They're at war with humanity as a whole, not just one faction or another," she explained, ending abrubtly, snapping her rifle from her back as she caught blips of red on the far edge of her radar. "And they're here."

"UNSC? No, Galactic Republic. Nice to meet you, Kat." Jaing slings his rifle and offers his hand.
"Likewise," she replied shaking his hand before stepping back, still wary. "If you're not with the UNSC, then who are you? I've never seen humanoid armor like yours. Not here."
"Noble Two? How...?"
"I could ask you the same question Noble Six; how did you get off Reach? Our files read KIA, I know, I’ve seen them. The reality is, we’re not as expendable as they thought we were, isn’t that right?"
The other Spartan regarded Catherine in silence. Even after all this time, she still opted to remain in her armor, hidden away from the world and it’s prying eyes. Akemi had left with some new scars of her own after Reach, but she gave no visible reaction to the unveiling of Catherine’s new eye. Though a thought flashed into her mind that now the other Spartan could have more tech to mess with besides her arm.
She shifted her weight idly onto her left leg, which was her own major change since the pair had last seen each other.
She turned her attention away from the other Spartan, staring off into a distant memory. Her voice was quiet as she spoke up again. “It’s all we can do. I’m sorry they were unable to find Carter. But his survival seems just as unlikely as you being here in front of me right now.”
Akemi knew how close the two of them were. It never even had to be said. The way he looked at her when their faces could actually be seen, it described it all. It took Noble 2’s supposed death for it all to become clear. How he had carried her limp form out of that bunker said it all.
A clenched fist was her only visible reaction to Carter's name. He'd been her closest companion, the only other original member of Noble and he was... gone. There was no other word for it now, not anymore. With a heavy sigh she looked over at Six and nodded. There was no point in asking if they had found the others, if she had seen them; a single fluke meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.
She suddenly realized then how this must look, or rather feel, for the other Spartan. She'd read enough of her own file to know that it had been a clean, in and out kill shot, but she'd not seen it, not like they had. It was most likely unnerving to say the least, and here she was, flaunting the scars of her rebirth. Quietly she replaced her helmet, scowling minutely.
"You've been reassigned then? I mean, of course you would have, Noble was, is, disbanded according to the files, but... with who?"
Jaing watched the figure as it jumped up to the roof. Judging by the petite figure he guessed it was a female. Sighting up, he fired half a meter next to...

Catherine: jaingnull-10: Catherine: For almost a full year now, Kat had been...
"Jaing, Null-class Advanced Recon Commando ten. No squad number-it's just me. As for the shots, I figured there was a reason you were here. Your reaction told me while you're more then willing to kill me, you aren't here to destroy this place." Jaing slings his rifle, and gives several hand signals. Civilians begin milling about with the All-Clear. "So, who or what exactly are you?"
The sounds of people reaching her ears again instilled a small sense of calm; this couldn't be her enemy, not if he had been safeguarding the town like this. With a small grunt she holstered her rifle and looked back at the, Null? Spartan B320, or Noble Two if you'd prefer. Most would call me Kat," she tilted her head a bit, eyeing the foreign gear, "You're not with the UNSC are you? I've not seen your armor before and your title is... unfamiliar."
"Noble Two? How...?"
"I could ask you the same question Noble Six; how did you get off Reach? Our files read KIA, I know, I’ve seen them. The reality is, we’re not as expendable as they thought we were, isn’t that right?"
"A combination of luck…and skill. But… You…That’s not possible. We were all there. That shot was a straight through. You flatlined completely, and for days. We may have the abilities to replace lost limbs, but total loss of brain function…"
Kat winced at her fellow Spartans words, knowing they were fully right. She shouldn't have been alive, but she was. With a deep sigh, she unsealed her helmet and pulled it off, lifting her head to look over at her former teammate. A jagged scar cut through her eye, from the temple where it flared out in a wicked starburst to right above her cheek bone. Smaller scars bisected her face where the plating from her helmet had shattered and sliced into her skin, but it was her eye that was most startling. A silver-white orb in place of her old eye stared out, a cybertronic replacement for the missing visual organ.
"They brought me back," she said, voice barely above a whisper as if afraid. "It's not that we don't die Six, it's that they won't let us. I should have died then, with Jorge and my boys, with Carter," her jaw clenched as she looked away with a wince, "but I didn't. My skills were in need. They tried to find the others, or so they've told me, but with no success." She spat the last part angrily, looking back. "I'm alive though, and I'll keep doing what I was made to do. It's all I can do."
Jaing watched the figure as it jumped up to the roof. Judging by the petite figure he guessed it was a female. Sighting up, he fired half a meter next to her, then quickly ducked down, headed to a new location.
She snarled, ducking back before firing off three shots to the side, her HUD having exploded with a single burst of red. Barreling off the roof, she knew there was no point in attempting stealth now; she was better off with a full frontal. Checking her shields, and pleased with their levels, took off at a full sprint down the alley ways, intent on taking out this new unknown enemy.
Catherine: For almost a full year now, Kat had been fighting solo in the war...
Figuring now that he had angered the woman-he never did have much luck anyways-Jaing moves into a flanking position, this time firing first ten meters ahead of her, then a meter behind her.
"I'm not here to kill you, miss."
Dust rose in a cloud as she skidded to a halt, rifle at the ready, and grenades set to be primed at her side. Making sure she had a clear window of escape if need be, she studied the foreign armor. The man, as it was obvious now, said one thing but his body language and actions said another all together. "I won't pretend I didn't notice those were warning shots but the fact remains that you're the lone variable in this very messy equation. State your designation, rank, and squad number now soldier."
"Noble Two? How...?"
"I could ask you the same question Noble Six; how did you get off Reach? Our files read KIA, I know, I've seen them. The reality is, we're not as expendable as they thought we were, isn't that right?"
For almost a full year now, Kat had been fighting solo in the war against the Covenant.
With the overwhelming loss of Reach, and the destruction of the squad once known as Noble, she’d attempted to move into a new squad with minimal luck. Knowing that she had been brought back, alone, without…
Jaing had seen the figure earlier, and sent all but himself into hiding. A single operative here meant one of two things: they’re either crazy, stupid, or skilled enough to try this sort of thing alone.
Her nerves were still crackling as the hush of an already silent landscape settled in even deeper. She swore she had seen additional shadows, movement for seconds only, in her peripherals but she couldn’t be entirely sure. The fact that her HUD wasnt even picking up the figure she could see had her scowling in displeasure, but there was nothing she could do. She moved back into another alley, melting into the shadows and moving farther back in until she knew she would be unseen. Quick as her body would allow, Kat slung her rifle onto her back and with carefully measured precision, she jumped up onto a low hanging roof and up again to reach the top levels. Staying low, she began to make her way closer, completely ignoring the warning bells ringing in her head.
