After seeing Adrien giving Marinette that look in Chameleon, I feel like this boy is going to be falling for her more and more before he realizes it’s happening, and once he does, he’s already in too deep. She’ll be the one he dreams about, thinks about, needs to be with, not Ladybug. And that changes everything.
Then after Adrien and Marinette start dating, Chat Noir will approach Ladybug and tell her he has a girlfriend. She’ll be surprised, but happy for him. He’ll say that his girlfriend actually reminds him of Ladybug, which makes her feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but when he starts talking about her, she can see the light in his eyes. How he escapes into another world as he talks about her. His toothy grin and tinge of a blush on his cheeks. She’ll know he truly loves this girl for who she is, not because of the resemblance he sees.
Ladybug too tells him that she’s with the guy she’s mentioned all this time. His dorky grin fades, then turns into a smile of understanding and contentment. Chat asks if she’s happy, and she says she is. She asks if he’s happy, and he says he is. They tell each other they want the other to be happy, and that it means the world to them that they are.
Both are happy, but there’s always a heavy feeling they both feel in their hearts when they’re in each other’s presence. One that lingers even when they’re just their civilian selves. They avoid it, live around it. Bury it like a stone in the ground.
Until the day their identities are exposed. Once the shock has passed, the heaviness has suddenly disappeared, and now it feels like their hearts are as light as a balloon, on its ascent into the sky.
No explanations, no words. Ladybug rushes into his waiting arms, and kisses him just like she had their last. She teases him, telling him that she had promised him a kiss, after all.
