reminder that the books themselves also suck ass actually. there's an entire plotline endorsing slavery. the one character who advocates to end slavery is bullied and made fun of. the one slave who doesnt like being enslaved is bullied and treated as an outcast. the bankers are the picture of racist stereotypes of jewish people. the one asian character is named fckn Cho Chang. the worldbuilding SUCKS. fuck harry potter and fuck rowling. stop giving her your money.

Long before the introduction of color film, a Russian chemist and photographer named Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky used an innovative technique. He took three individual black and white photos, each through a colored filter (red, green, and blue), to create fully colored, high-quality pictures. The photo of this woman, taken by him, is around 107 years old!
No wait I looked this guy up and this shitās amazing
Itās so incredibly humanizing to see people from the very distant past in such authentic color
And like. look at these landscape shots!! Theyāre so vivid!! Even aside from the historical value, these are just legitimately beautiful photographs
you can only reblog this if you're not racist
anyone comparing quality of baseball between the wpbl and mlb or any other men's baseball without IN DETAIL discussing the level of access to literally anything (money, teams to fucking play on, support like trainers and nutritionists, time to train (how many of these players have been full time students or working jobs for years?), so much more) in women's baseball compared to random men's indy leagues that nobody has ever heard of, let alone the mlb/milb system... probably not worth listening to at all.
give the women several decades of everything the men get and then you can say whatever you want i guess
(like. they don't have the equivalent of spring training games even. they all got here a few days ago and have not had much or any time to play together as teams, even for drills but especially in actual game format. i forgot to say that before but that's huge especially re: any defense issues that may happen at the start.)
also: good stuff from the tags that i am stealing for my post:
hi so i really have to disagree with this a lot for several reasons:
you can't say "i think men should play worse, like women" and expect that to go over well or be a good take. what?? what are we even doing???
"have you ever seen an MLB game" ok so yes. not expecting everybody who interacts with one of my posts to look at my blog, but for reference, i've been a baseball fan for years, and i watch a LOT of mlb games. ask me for my spreadsheet of how many jays games i've watched this year if you want. anyway, for people who like baseball, good pitching and defense count as things actually happening! it's fun to watch!
games with "things actually happening" (as in. high scoring games, i guess?) are fun but so far in the wpbl much of this has happened because the defense has been bad! this has only been 2 games of course, and game 1 had such bad weather that it isn't fair to go off of that. the teams have had little to no time to practice together, and no time on their actual field before games started. this will improve as time goes on. this is not their fault or anything unexpected. mostly, this is not a defining feature of women's baseball. this is a feature of baseball with these specific time and training limitations.
women's sports should be good. they should not have to be lower quality than they could be in order to be more entertaining for people who don't enjoy the sport all that much. women's baseball is being built from almost nothing and there are growing pains but it can be good quality baseball and it will if given resources and time. this should be the goal.
reminder for all hockey fans:
netflix is making a hockey show called "the sticks" that is based on a very real tragedy that occured in canada in 2018.
the show follows a minnesota high school team after their bus crashes and coming back to hockey afterwards.
in 2018, the humboldt broncos' (a junior A team made up of 18-22 year olds) bus was hit by a tractor trailer on a highway intersection. 16 people (10 players, 2 coaches, and 4 team staff members) were killed, along with 13 other players severely injured.
the memory of the humboldt broncos crash is an incredibly sensitive subject carrying a lot of trauma to both the survivors, their families, and deceased's families. the trajectory of hockey in canada was changed significantly after this tragedy.
despite this, netflix has decided to make a show using the death of young hockey players for profit. they did not consult the survivors, nor the deceased's families. they stole a canadian story for a feel-good cash grab.
i understand wanting to watch shows about hockey, but this is not the show to watch. do not give it attention, as the humboldt broncos' memories deserve to be theirs and theirs alone to share.
This is how Netflix advertises the show btw⦠Theyāre calling it āyour new hockey obsessionā. Itās disgusting.
oh so itās that kind of rivalry eh

thinking about how despite how much they hate(d) each other it was always harrow making almost borderline flirty comments at gideon. 'i wouldve thought youd like to see my girlish and vulnerable heart,' 'or i may start to like it,' gideon going 'why did i have to be born so attractive' and harrow just saying 'because everyone would have throttled you otherwise' (ie not denying it). gideons flirty-ish comments were like an annoying jab at her side but harrows comments always came out like they wanted to hit right under her skin. ianthe was so right harrow IS a romantic
