((Hey guys, its been a while! I kinda had a GHS dream featuring me in Gregory House! Gregory took me to my room (111) and I got to know a couple other guests in room 141!))

((What I’m trying to say is that dream reminded me that this blog existed. I don’t know if I’ll come back to the RP scene here, but this was a nice trip down memory lane. But who knows, maybe the stitching soul-stealer may return one day...))

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Sadie’s head whipped over to its source. Without a moment’s hesitation, they shoved everything under their pillowcase, almost pricking their finger on the needle in their haste.

“No.” They shook their head before moving over to the window.

It was curious how they were quick to hide what they were doing when it became apparent he had appeared. Were they embarrassed with this skill, or did it have something to do with the hotel? Gregory might pretend to be nice, but he was pretty skilled at crushing dreams using venomous words.

“Glad I’m not buggin ya, then.” Death pretended not to be bothered by his thoughts and subtly grinned with his eyes. “Just wanted to check up on ya, buddy. You been doin’ alright?”

They quickly nodded. In truth... kinda. They had managed to avoid the various denizens for the most part, only interacting when necessary, but hadn’t managed to retrieve any of the all-important souls that Death wanted. They managed to spot a few though!

“...I-I think I found a few souls. I couldn’t get them...” That last bit was little more than a whisper, but still audible.

The skeleton would find said guest in their room, sitting on their bed, having opened the window to let in a breeze. In their hands was a patchwork doll they were stitching, a small pile of fabric scraps, a pile of feathers and cotton, and a few spools of thread next to them. They didn’t seem to even notice Death, as their mismatched eyes were trained intently on every stitch.

He was lucky to have found them so soon. It felt like every human guest took the same room every time.

Although he could not come in, Death could at least speak to them from beyond the open window. The entity decided it would be better to address them quietly and simply, since they were currently preoccupied with something… it looked like sewing?

“Heyyylo?” He spoke in that same ridiculous tone, waving until they noticed him. “Hope ya don’t mind a visitor, eh?”

It had been some time since Death had spoken to the newest human guest. The poor child was so quiet and nervous around him that he never even learned their name. He was worried for them, knowing deep down that their type usually did not last very long. Since they had not appeared to him in their dreams, it concerned him even more to think that either they had not acquired any souls to give or worse… they could no longer reach him, which implied something more sinister.

There was not much he could do but investigate. The reaper lingered outside of Gregory House, inspecting the hotel wherever he could without being spotted. He was hoping he could find an open window to peek through and possibly see them. Or perhaps they would be lucky enough to find a way outside and speak with him. Either way, he just wanted some evidence of their safety, if there was any.

They nodded. They shift around a bit as they further attempted to fill in the gaps in their memories. Something about jars and the little wisps. Maybe the wisps needed to go in the jars- no, free the wisps in the jars! They looked around. The lights swirling around made them feel a bit dizzy, but at the same time, brought on a sense of safety. Maybe since it was not the hotel. They looked back at Death.

“…what is this place?” They were trying to speak up this time.

Well, it looked like they were not willing to reveal what was going on in that noggin of theirs. Death was still a little concerned since the kid appeared to be frightened by something, but he was not going to push it. Much as he tried to speculate what their behavior could mean, the only conclusion he could be brought to was that maybe they had already seen what Gregory House had to offer. They did not appear to be harmed, however…

“Oh?” He snapped out of his thoughts. “Heh, curious, are ya? This place is called The Lost World. It’s where lost souls come to move on to the afterlife, thanks to yours truly!” The reaper pointed to himself. “It’s because of those goons at the hotel that some of ‘em are being kept from passing. It’d be a big help to me if you can find ‘em and bring ‘em back when you go to bed! Once you’ve found enough, I should be able to use ‘em to open the front door for you and open a portal back to the real world! Howssat sound?” The conversation pretty much went back to the souls, so he may as well try again.

“The lost world.” They repeated. They stayed quiet for a long time, taking in what he had just said. They seemed to be mumbling to themselves.

“Jars... souls... you... lots... front door... free.” In a normal situation, they would have said no, no, and heck no. But now, with reality seeming to melt around them, combined with the explanation, seemed to have changed their mind. They take a deep breath and brace themselves.

“I’ll do it.”

And like that, Sadie’s mind began to race with possible details as they spaced out again. Yelling. Screaming. Violence. Punishment. Her. Oh god, not again-!

“…got that?”

They snapped back to reality (not that it meant anything). Stuff it down, forget it ever happened, they thought as they blinked a bit. They fiddled with the straps of their dress a bit as they attempted to fill in the gaps in his lecture. They nodded, not wanting Death to waste his time reexplaining everything to them. Their face told a different story however.

“Mm-hm…”

Their silence, which was broken with the most menial of answers, was unsettling. The wraith found them difficult to read, trying to find answers through their facial features but came up with nothing. It was obvious they had not caught anything at all. He let out a sigh, rubbing the back of his head. What was he supposed to do, here?

“You sure? It… looked like you were spacin’ out. Everythin’ alright?” This was all he could offer for now. Might as well take care of whatever’s on their mind first before explaining again. Maybe giving a more summarized version would be more helpful once they had a clear conscience – that was if they were willing to divulge anything.
