Peter has the biggest crush on Steve and he doesn’t hide it. He makes his feelings extremely clear. He knows Steve likes him back in that way but the man is so reserved and stubborn and chivalrous that he won’t allow himself to act on his feelings. It drives Peter crazy. He’s resorted to begging. Begging him to give him a chance, that his age doesn’t matter, that it doesn’t make Steve a bad person. But Steve never gives in, even though it eats him up inside.
One day, Peter happens to meet a Johnny Storm variant who looks exactly like Steve. It’s uncanny. He’s a lot younger than Steve, and he’s not Steve at all. He just looks exactly like him. Peter is fascinated by this and that’s what starts the conversation. They talk and they laugh and they flirt and it’s amazing because if Peter doesn’t think too hard he can just pretend it’s Steve.
Steve sees them together one day, blatantly flirting. Johnny is touching Peter’s arm and Peter is blushing. BLUSHING. It makes Steve furious. That’s his boy. That blush is reserved for him. Steve has never felt such jealousy in his entire life, but there’s something about watching the person you desperately want, laughing flirtatiously with someone who looks exactly like you (bar the qualities that make you not want to act on your feelings). Fuck, he thinks.
And before he can process any coherent plan of action, he’s already grabbing Peter by the wrist and pulling him away as Peter, surprised, shouts an apologetic “goodbye” to Johnny whilst being dragged into the back entrance of the Avengers compound. And as Peter opens his mouth and starts to ask what’s going on, Steve pins him against the wall and silences him with the most passionate, territorial kiss and Peter just melts into it, because this is all he’s ever wanted. And he knows this is what Steve has wanted.
